I am not a big fan of Gibson acoustics, but I do like the Songwriter Deluxe. That is a nice guitar. I too have a connection with Gibson and Gibson has a very high mark up on their guitars. Most companies, like Martin & Taylor, if you look at the list price, dealers pay about 50% of that. But Gibson its about 60% off list is what dealers pay.

Anyway, I am considering getting the Songwriter Deluxe. Its a very nice guitar. The sound is inbetween a Taylor and a Martin. Its well rounded, not too bright and not too boomy.

I have a 1934 Gibson "00" that a friend bought at a yard sale.
One of those deals where he bought it for $25, I have a letter from Gibson verifying
the guitars authenticity. Lists for 2-3K on the open market!! It's a bit beat and needs some work, but plays and sounds sweet.

I think gibson or epiphone did a reissue of a 00. It's not a boomer but plays well and has a sweet sound. I like the 'parlor' body size too.

i really like the gibson hummingbird, nice looking, and nice sounding. i would go to guitar center or whever and play as many gibsons as you can and get a feel for what you like.

I just got a 2004 Gibson J-45. I literally have almost stopped playing my other guitars. I have a Martin D-42, Martin D-35, Collings OM2HC, and a Taylor 455-12 and I think that this bare-bones J-45 may be the most honest sounding guitar I've ever owned.

If you're a Taylor man, chances are you'll not really like the Gibson setup - the action is traditionally high, but boy do you get an amazing, dry and crisp sound. Ever since Gibson moved back to Montana, their qualilty and craftsmanship have gone though the roof. I HIGHLY recommend checking out some J-45's. They are stellar instruments

You have a Martin D-42 and you prefer the J-45??? Wow! Proof that everyone has a different ear when it comes to picking out guitars :)

I would take a D-42 (Possibly my favorite guitar of all time) over any guitar.
