i'm interested in learning to play the lap steel guitar. does anyone have any experience with this instrument? can anyone recommend a good buy? any websites to point me in the right direction? i've tried playing my acoustic on my lap, but it doesn't seem as good a lap guitar.

i'd suggest getting an electric guitar and try using that, rather than going out and getting an instrument with such limited use. you can then experiment with effects and such, and if you end up getting bored of slide guitar, you'll still have an electric to go nuts with.

Go to musicians friend. They have one by Artisan (sp?) that is like 60 bucks. I bought one and it is awesome. The pickups really scream when you slide all the way back. It is unbelievable with distortion. Thats a good place to start :thumbsup :goat

Any of you fans on Xavier Rudd? I believe he is from Austrailia, kinda sounds like Ben Harper, uses lap guitar as well, not to mention the digiridoo as well.
Check out his website www.xavierrudd.com, if you go to the multimedia section you can check out video of him playing

Yeah, I figured you all would enjoy that link. I'll be seeing him Friday, he's opening for Spearhead at the Showbox in Seattle. I hear his live shows are incredible, so I'm pretty pumped. I'll make sure to give a review after the show.
