I mentioned this before. I really think the Pats need to get the right personnel in place to incorporate the philosophy they had during the Super Bowl championships. Especially on offense.
Balanced and physical. Ever since they went to the shotgun, spread the field mentally they have become a finesse team that gets pushed around where the opponent enforces it's will on them.
It use to be the opposite. I really think they need to go back in that direction starting this offseason and not waste a minute getting back to it, especially conisdering Brady still has a lot of football in the tank.

Dancing Ants
01-10-2010, 04:40 PM
I know pats fans wanna bitch about losing Seymour, but it was a baseball trade. Belichick probably surmised that Seymour would decline in the next year or two and got something for him. You can't win every year, and belichick was smart to get a high pick for him. Now all they have to do is use the pick correctly and start rebuilding that defense.

Ps - that said, it looks like it's gonna be a while before they're serious contenders though. Also, kinda funny how normal they've looked since they lost their cameras.

jackisback24
01-10-2010, 05:03 PM
Baltimore's defense and running game was too much for the Pats today. Thankfully we'll get Oakland's number one pick next year because we will need it. We certainly lost a lot of leadership on D this year, and the injuries to Brady and Welker hurt, but Baltimore was certainly up for this game. I wasn't particularly blown away by their offense, but they were up for the game more than we were. I thought there was a chance when we got it to 27-14 if we could make some 3rd down conversions, we were poised for a comeback and that's where the loss of Welker hurt.

I'm routing for Baltimore for the AFC and the Saints overall at this point because I can't stand Philip Rivers, The Colts are expected to win and Rex Ryan is annoying. The Saints winning it all quite simply would be good for New Orleans and the state of Louisiana.

Him. The offensive line picked up it's assignments. Receivers held onto balls (not including Edelman). Defense actually tackles the HB on the first tackle every few times. Brady doesn't get injured earlier on in the year or somehow rests enough before today's game.

We just plain ole sucked. We knew it was going to happen, but we wanted to hold out hope and then say on Monday that we knew they'd win. Truth be told, we were right. They were what they were, and that was an inconsistent, young team. Coaching is a key and I'm sure some announcements will be made for the offense this off-season.

1. When a team goes 11-5 and doesn't make the playoffs, that's not bad coaching, that just means that the AFC was all equally shitty or equally strong.
2. Tommy was coming off a potentially career-ending injury. The guy had TWO surgeries last year. Not to mention, he's had three broken ribs for the past five weeks. Granted, that's not really an excuse because if he wasn't healthy enough to play, he shouldn't have, but the Tom Brady of 2009 is not the Tom Brady of 2007. Only thing they have in common is that neither will win a Super Bowl.
3. New England lost 1/2 a dozen of their starting defenders, and 1/2 the offense was plagued with injuries all year.

I think the fact that they won their division this year speaks volumes.

Neither team played well. I mean, the Ravens only scored 9 points in the second half, so you have to seriously chalk 21 of their points more up to horrible calls/plays by New England rather than fantastic defense by the Ravens. Tommy gunning shit over the head of a guy who is being double covered isn't going to end well for anyone, that's for sure. If New England had just stuck to the short passes and run the ball....the score would have been different, I think.

Though, the Ravens running game was gross. Ray Rice is ridiculous. I think the juicing/murder training sessons he's getting from Ray-Ray are working out nicely for him.

I don't know. I amaze myself.

Stopped reading after all that digging in the past crap. Regardless of the "omg Pats are team of the decade!!!1!1", they still lost to the Ravens yesterday. Tough pill to swallow, I know.

I already said I was a classless jerk. What more do we need here?

Funny, because the New England game this weekend is in the past. Why are you continueing to dig at that?

My thoughts exactly. I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time Bill decided to defer to the 2nd half. I'm also pretty sure it had nothing to do with his decision against Indy. That was the dumbest sports article I've read in a long time.

Hey could you do me a favor? Seriously.

Could you look up how many super bowl rings the Ravens have won this century? I'm doing a paper on fanbases with an inflated sense of self worth, and I need some information to back up my thesis that there's a direct correlation with lack of IQ and lack of good with the NFL teams they cheer for.

Thanks! I'll expect something by 4 pm tomorrow! :) oxoxoxoxx :hugYou can start with people that decorate their Christmas trees to honor their favorite team.:lol

I said like two things yesterday (you know, when it was still the present) and told someone to quit crying today.

Seriously is the dumbest sports article ever. :thumbsdow There's a lot of reasons why the Pats lost yesterday, that is not one of them. And Belichick has deferred plenty of times, even in the playoffs. The guy should have done some research before he wrote such an unintelligent article.

Truth. No one on the team showed up until midway through the 2nd quarter, and the offense just never showed up at all.

I mean, yeah you can sit and bitch and moan about crap, but who cares anyways? People seem to forget how "awesome" New England was prior to 2001.

We didn't have the team this year. Does it suck? Yup. Is it worth being all upset and bitter about? Not really. I think the team did great, considering they pretty much lost their entire Defense and Tom Brady was able to help them get to the playoffs after such a horrible injury.

Exactly. I'm surprised they even made it to the playoffs, never mind winning the AFC East again. God knows I certainly remember what the Pats were like prior to 2001! :lol The loses on defense were just too much to overcome. I sill want to know what the heck BB was thinking when he traded Seymour. I knew when that happened it wasn't going to be a good defensive year.

Plus all of his injuries he played with this year. It was an okay year for the Pats, I think most Pats fans realized this was somewhat of a rebuilding year and that we didn't really have a shot at the Super Bowl anyway, so it was nice that we won the division and made the playoffs.

It just doesn't seem like the playoffs with the Steelers and the Pats.

I was watching the game yesterday, and I was so pissed off because I know the Steelers are better than the Ravens.

Except theyre not. At all. They split the series and the Ravens dominated the game in Pittsburgh.

I watched the whole game and I didn't think the Ravens were that much better than the Pats. Both teams played bad, but the Pats mistakes were just killers.

Mistakes caused by the Ravens (strip-sack, three INTs).

I think the big run by Rice skewed the numbers. It was good, but the final numbers don't suggest a blowout, which was the end result.

It was a massive blowout. The score wasnt even indicative of how bad the Ravens won. Cant take away plays. Doesnt work that way.

3 interceptions and a fumble. Tom Brady's poor decision making is to blame. Injured or not.

Yup. And the Ravens defense.

The Steelers beat the Ravens and took them to OT with a backup QB. I'm pretty sure the Steelers are the better team.

You cannot take plays away, but the Ravens averaged 3 yards per play their last 61 plays. They were far from dominant. They were better, but they were also lucky. As unlucky as they were all season, they probably deserved a break or 2.

When a QB over-throws a reciever and the reciever bobbles the ball, and the defense happens to grab it, I don't see that as being 'caused' by the defense. I see that as a terrible throw being made worse by the receiver.

I hope the offensive coordinator gains some confidence or something, because our offense was fairly stale and predictable for most of this season. I would like to see some improvement in the offensive play calling for next year too.

Yet the Steelers lost to Cleveland, KC, and Oakland. They didnt make the playoffs, let alone go into New England and win. The Ravens are clearly better.

They didnt need to do anything with that lead. They just ran the ball every play into the nine guys the Pats stuffed in the box. I dont think they would have had that average had they needed to throw the ball and stay competitive.

Why did Brady overthrow the wideout? Because of Ravens pressure. I hope youre not talking about the play where Walker absolutely raped Watson's face and the ball popped up.

Nah, I was talking about another one.:) And its not that he over threw, exactly, he just threw it a little high, it got tipped and the Ravens defender caught it.

Also, nice pass interference called on Randy Moss when 1. the Ravens defender was standing in the way and Moss just bumped him when he ran out and 2. the ball didn't even go to Moss. :lol
