Banta Cain was a one trick pony: nickel pass rush. Stupid late hits, bad run defense, can't drop back into coverage. He was pretty much a non-factor last year. Cutting him saves $2 million towards the cap. Seems like a no-brainer for me.

Looking at the OLB position for next year, Belichick much be very confident in Cunningham.

He's the elephant/Willie McGinest type that Belichick loves. I'd love to see them go after Lawson or Johnson for some pass rush help, but someone else will probably overpay big time.

Who's available for FA's that had decent sack totals last year? I'd bet cutting Banta Cain was done to free up some money to bring someone in.

Charles Johnson, Ray Edwards, and Manny Lawson are probably the top 3. There might be some guys to be had by trade too. Osi Yumenyora comes to mind, but he wouldn't fit our system.

Just saw this posted somewhere else:
Matt Light - T - Patriots The Patriots have begun serious contract negotiations to re-sign free agent OT Matt Light.
Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe reports that the deal could be completed as soon as today. First-round pick Nate Solder is the Pats' left tackle of the future, but he's awfully raw and was beaten too often as a senior at Colorado. Light would be an excellent re-signing to "bridge" the gap. He'd almost certainly be the Patriots' starting left tackle in Week 1. Source: Greg Bedard on Twitter Jul 28, 10:06 AM

He would be owed his week 1 game check. I believe it's week 6 or 10 they consider a full "league year" for a player, and after that point they earn their entire base salary. Could have changed with the new CBA though.

Haynesworth is going to have a problem with a controlling coach he had that issue with Shanahan and it does not get much more controlling than Belichick. Not to mention he still has a sexual assault case that has yet to go to trial hanging above his head...This guy is not Randy Moss or Cory Dillon he is just a bad human being. Is this not the same team that wanted to stay away from Dez Bryant in the draft because he has "character issues"
Also if this is the kind of guy they wanted why didnt they just keep Richard Seymour two years ago???

DirectTV offers more HD as far as every sport goes. I will just use it for MLB, NBA and NFL and I'm getting the cheapest cable package. He shouldn't have posted the picture and can't call people idiots for getting mad about it. It was obvious they would be. But people shouldn't be that outraged. It's not pornography to a normal person but to some fuck ups in this world it is. That is the issue. It's not the fact that it is a naked 2 yr old that is normal its the fact that the picture was obviously taken with a pretty hefty zoom lens. It's creepy as hell and the fact that Barstool ran with it and possibly paid for the picture makes them just as bad as the person who took it.

Depending on length of the drives; I would say =. If a fumble or some snafu happens early then perhaps over with a third drive.

Brayd will probably play the whole 1st quarter. He needs to get reps in and probably won't be playing the 4th pre-season game.
