I hate the fact that coordinators can be pilfered during the playoffs. Patriots don't need this kind of exposure right now... no team does. You can't do it during the regular season, why is it allowed in the playoffs?

I'd like to know this as well. Seems to bring unnecessary distractions to the team and one more thing to address within the locker room, etc. I actually didn't know that they can't pull coaches during the regular season. Seems like it'd be even more important in the playoffs.

injuries played a key part, but also, i think a lot of these guys either took a step back or didnt pan out the way Coach thought they would.

Bodden was hurt last year. he was a big part of the team in 09. cut

Sanders/Meriweather both had huge plays the past couple of years, but MEriweather was def overrated and wanted to freelance more and Sanders (imo) was cut due to financial reasons. they would've owed him a lot if they stuck with him...they should've.

McCourty's injuries this year have hurt his progression, but he is getting beat on a lot of plays and being targeted by bad QB's week in and week out. hopefully his switch to safety will help his confidence.

arrington is overrated, but he's made a few plays to come up with turnovers.

and then you have guys like slater and edelman...receivers playing defense. julian has been great as a slot corner and he rarely misses tackles. slater has been decent as dback/safety.

This team gives up a whole lot of yards in between the 20's but there are a couple good signs. they are above average in the redzone and tighten up more...also they havent allowed a huge scoring play this season. they don't give up an 80 yard passing touchdown or a 60 yard running score...

Coach has done some of his best work mid-game making adjustments this season.

Right on with all of this.

The Pats defense is going to have to do just enough throughout the playoffs, that's what they're currently designed to do and have been doing all season. Limit opponents big plays, force field goals and force some timely turnovers.

This is an offensively driven leauge and the pats have the offense to make up for the defensive shortcomings.

As it stands right now if we made it to the super bowl this is how I'd rank who we'd match up best from the NFC

1) 49ers - We could easily put more points on the board
2) Packers - Their defense is horrible and this would be a very high scoring/entertaining game
3) Giants - Their defense is so good that it could be a repeat of that nightmare superbowl but this time not as close.
4) Saints - The Saints offense seems to be unstoppable and could probably outscore Brady and Co.

I would like to see a rule that no coach can leave, be hired or even be interviewed during the post-season. I suppose there isn't much you could do about coaches interviewing with college programs, but that may become an 'unwritten rule' after a while.

Are Pats fans nervous about this game? Not as much about the matchup, because it's about as favorable as you could've gotten, but just about avoiding the one and done that has happened the last two years. I go in expecting the Pats to win. I usually always do since they are the better team 90 percent of the time but I also know it is the NFL. Even though whatever they adjust at the half has been working out well.

The players/coaches seem to be pretty level-headed, BB is great at keeping them focused on the task at hand. But it's definitely in my mind, and I have to think it's wandering around in the backs of the players minds as well. But hopefully it serves as motivation to come out and put the pedal down for 4 quarters.

ya, but pats beat the chargers (who were playing better than a lot of playoff teams down the stretch) miami twice (also better than denver, cinci, and houston w/o shaub) and the jets twice.

pats played tebow perfectly. KC, and the bills copied their MO and it worked for them as well. steelers got too confident and let their gaurd down. i mean, they had no safety help pretty much the whole game. that's a treat for a qb

Yeah this is what I was thinking. The Pats will obviously leave someone back there to cover the deep play, so I don't see Tebow throwing for another 300 yards. Still, I'm slightly nervous about the weekend. I really hope they just come out and go full blast for 60 minutes and shut up all the critics with the two playoff losses at home, beating crappy teams, etc.

I think a better question is whether Denver is a bit nervous going into Boston, where Tebow hasn't played knowing that McDaniels is now a part of the plan? Now of course we all know it's a small spoke on the large wheel, but in the psychological warfare aspect of the game, I say right now advantage Pats simply for the aforementioned items plus the squashing the Pats gave them last time after being down big.

Also, I will say this.......watch out for Houston.

McDaniels hasn't worked with Tebow in two years. He watched him in practice, and then watched him ride the pine while he was in Denver. They'll learn more from the video tape than they do from McDaniels this week. His insight to a potential Baltimore matchup will be much more helpful.

2 receivers is correct. he has welker and branch...plus 2 amazing tight ends.

FYI the broncos gave up more points than the pats this year. i guess it's easy for tebow to be clutch when he does nothing the whole game and his defense keeps him in the game to get his 50th passing yard on his 20th completion attempt in the 4th

I don't think Denver looks good at all. Hell, give mark Sanchez no safety help over the top and he might be able to hit a few receivers. That gameplan Should've been changed when tebow hit his second 30+ yard pass. That shouldn't be happening against a dick Lebeau defense but he was obviously too arrogant to change anything. Mankins was limited in practice yesterday and today spoke to the media and said he is not sure if he'll play saturday...

http://blog.masslive.com/patriots/2012/01/bill_belichick_says_that_injur.html

I think he'll end up playing, but (this is me assuming the win, which I probably shouldn't be) another week of rest couldn't hurt.

Don't get too excited, I still think the Patriots win going away. Something like 41-20 seems about right.

Mankins noticeably limping again after practice today according to Ian Rapoport. He'll be a game time decision it looks like.

this o-line looked great last time without mankins and light. i think brady was hit 5x, sacked once. not sure about those stats, but they seem to stick out. i remember that big hit by dumervil though.

Mankins was hurt in the Dolphins game, he played against the Broncos. Solder gave up the big hit by Dumervil.

Yeah, I meant in general without mankins and light. Didn't one or both of them miss multiple games?

My bad. Mankins missed most of the Dolphins game and the Bills game. Light missed just the Dolphins game.

That's because he doesn't want to lose again... :lol

From ESPN, 'National View of the Pats.' http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots
2. Playoff put Brady in a cranky mood. Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports writes on quarterback Tom Brady shifting into a different mode. Cole relays a story from receiver Chad Ochocinco, who talked about approaching fellow receivers Wes Welker and Deion Branch to ask if Brady was OK. "You know, he’s intense, but this was like a whole new thing, man. They were like, 'It’s that time of the year, you just have to understand.' ... You know that quarterbacks are a little different. They have to act a little different because of the position. But Tom has taken that to a whole different level."

Yeah likewise. I'm really hoping they can just crush the Broncos and feel confident again in the playoffs.

What's the forecast for the game? I know it's suppose to be cold (it's nasty with snow/ice here in central ny right now) but wasn't sure if there were forecasts for snow out there.
