Has Harbaugh given any reason as to why the Ravens did not call a time out before the FG attempt?

Has Harbaugh given any reason as to why the Ravens did not call a time out before the FG attempt?
From everything I read Harbaugh thought they were good during the attempt. I guess in theory he'd have done no harm from calling it anyways (besides maybe freezing his own kicker lulz), but he didn't think it was necessary at the time.
Honestly though even with all that and the wrong down showing and all that mess, if Cundiff sets his kick routine up for each specific down he should've taken the timeout himself. I didn't know he did that and thought they spent most of the drive practice kicking to warmup for it.

Yeah I was thinking that as well, or someone else on the sidelines who knew that Cundiff wasn't quite ready should have called the timeout.

I wouldn't think it out of the realm of possibility that he forgot he had the timeout. Considering all the confusion on the sideline it doesn't make alot of sense to not call the timeout. With reports of Cundiff and even Harbaugh running to an official to confirm the downs and Belichick himself saying he didn't ice Cundiff because they looked rushed coming out it doesn't make sense at all that they didn't call the timeout.
So after it's all said and done and Billy missed, maybe Harbaugh realized they had a timeout. So instead of looking like an idiot and saying "I didn't know we had a timeout" he just said things were under control.
If I'm not mistaken I believe you'll be penalized for calling a timeout when you don't have one, so Cundiff may have been just as unaware. Realistically if he was on the sideline practicing the kicks it's feasible he'd have been unaware, but then again if he noticed the downs wrong on the board surely he'd have noticed the giant timeout dot still on the board too.

Okay those were all scenarios that I was thinking as well (again). Thanks for answering Alex. It's nice to hear it coming from a Ravens fan. Oh and you're correct, you do get penalized for trying to take a timeout when you don't have any left. But I haven't heard anything from the Ravens camp about them thinking they didn't have any left. Just a lot of confusion on the sidelines.

I was just at my annual meeting for my part-time job, and they had this segment on us being awesome as a team, and even if we have a set-back, we have to deal with that as a team.
They then played the clip of Ray Lewis after the AFC game, talking about how everyone did a great job, and the Ravens lose as a team, not just one person's fault. I started cheering, in my Wes Welker jersey, when it showed the clip of Cundiff missing the field goal. Apparently, that wasn't the message they were trying to get across.

The good thing is this offense is much more geared towards short and intermediate passing than the 2007 offense. That should help to neutralize some of the giants pass rush.

I can't watch it with anyone or at a SB party, because I'll be surrounded by asshole Ravens fans who hate Tom Brady, so that'll be miserable, too.

the offense as a whole is more complete now than in 07 despite not having a deep threat. moss was our deep threat in 07 and it caused brady to look for him more and hold the ball longer in the pocker. the way the offense is set up now brady is able to throw quickly.

i dont think Eli is a lucky QB. he's been fantastic in the playoffs and when the game is on the line he's been on fire.
i think people are being too critical on him though. Eli did mention the word elite before the season started, but the media throws him into that discussion more than he brings it upon himself.
Eli wasn't a future HOF'er 4 months ago, but now he's being talked about being a future HOF'er if he wins this game...
people need to settle down and not compare every above average qb to the most elite qb's to ever play the game...eli is having a great year and he was great in 07 as well.

It took a pretty large set of balls for him to say this as well... he was coming off one of his worst seasons. Says he's 'elite' (which a lot of analysts were laughing at at the time) and goes out and backs it up with an outstanding season. Not many guys can do that.

Yeah that's what I was going to say. I don't' think anyone is saying this will be a walk in the park for either team. And no one should. Yes the Giants have a mental edge because of the '07 Super Bowl and beating the Pats earlier this year. But the Pats have made some good adjustments and the Giants aren't exactly dominant all over the field. Like you, I think it will come down to the last possession. It should be a tough, close game that will hinge on turnovers and final possession.

I never realized how cheesy the AFC title looked until this year.:lol I always thought it was a crystalized football like the Lombardi, but it looks like it was made in 8th grade metal shop. I'm guessing the NFC title is the same.
Regarding the game, both teams are completely different and much better then a month ago, let alone week 9. It'll be a dandy and quite frankly has a good shot of being the first SB going to OT.
But I just feel it's one of those years for the Pats, with the double rainbow, the legacy of MHK, Robert Kraft saving the season and the legends of 2001 returning for the AFC game (Drew and TB hugging was touching), not to mention the 10-year anniversary of SnowBowl and the Rams game.....I just think the stars are aligned for New England. And if Eli gets lucky one more time after 5 years ago and week 9 (ending the Pats home streak), I will forever be damned, whatever that means.:lol

Well of course there's sourness here. There's no Patriots fans that love the fact that they lost the Super Bowl in '07 and in the back of most fans minds is that god awful feeling we had when fricken Tyree or whoever that jerk is, (miraculously) caught that ball and we don't want to experience that again. I think you guys keep expecting us to act like the Pats are going into this Super Bowl as 20 point favorites and be all arrogant about it. That's not happening this year because we know it's going to be a close game and it could go either way. We have confidence that the Patriots can win, but it's not an absolute that they will win.

maybe its just the sourness of people still thinking eli is garbage, and the fact that vegas still thinks tom brady cant lose a super bowl twice in a row.
You clearly don't know how Vegas line-setting works.
pathetic
01-30-2012, 04:48 PM
No. It comes down to the big bad B squared not being unbeatable...it comes down to an end of an era, man. You can shy away from how huge 07 was all you want, but like the 2001 yankees losing to the dbacks, the pats are no longer the unbeatable playoff team, with the unbeatable qb, with the unmatchable of wits of a coach. Thats all, not rubbing it in in the least, its just the truth.
no comparison...
pats lost in 05 in the division round to denver, and in 06 in the AFC Championship to Indy...
i believe that's when the pats lost their label of being an unbeatable playoff team...
This is still a franchise that's been to 5 superbowls in the past 10 years. the pats never go into a season without being a contender for the superbowl and that won't change as long as belichick and brady are around. even if they lose the superbowl this year, they'll be talked about as the AFC's best next season.
end of an era :lol

Gronk will play. I was thinking today that if he really does have a high ankle sprain then maybe the smart thing would be just to play him in the 2nd half. If he is out there the Giants have to cover him and if it is a high ankle sprain he is going to be hurting after that long halftime shit show if he does see a lot of time in the first half.

Cris Carter was just on ESPN saying that he played two weeks afterwards and went for 120 yards. Troy Brown also said on a local sports show that it depends on the severity of the sprain, but a minor sprain and he should be ok. I really think we won't know anything until we see him run/block on the first play he's out there.

pats are in the superbowl for the 5th time in 10 years. brady just had the best passing season (minus TD, cuz he had 50 in 07) of his career. he has a couple young TE's and a strong offense around him, and the defense will grow stronger as brady slowly declines. eventually they will carry the team in 3-5 years when brady can't throw 350 yards a game anymore.

People also forget that Brady threw for over 5,000 yards in the regular season with a fucked up shoulder, albeit not his throwing one. Imagine a healthy Tom Brady on a tear with his precision? Barring injuries, he'll approach 5K next year as well.

Brady has been on the injured report for the last 6 years, of every game. Seriously, I dont take these "injuries" seriously when it comes to brady. And i guess i dont like brady as a person. Great athlete, dont get me wrong. But after his comment that the giants couldnt hold them to 21 points after plax's comment, he seems over confident.
