i don't think younger will help this team on defense. obviously use the draft picks you have. but they need an experienced player in that backfield and also someone to get in the head of McCourty and figure out what happen to him this season.

Younger can help the pass rush. I think they will go older with the secondary though. They may also need a key oline member.

There are quite a few quality wide outs that'll be out there. Rather see them get someone with experience than draft a guy like Floyd with one of the first rounders.

If the plan is to bring in Lloyd I'd like to see them grab a pass rusher and maybe a safety or corner. They could use another interior O-lineman as well. It'll be interesting to see if Dowling can get on the field next year. The guy was the first pick of the 2nd round and we didn't see much of him due to injuries. I'm excited to see what he can bring to the table.

I don't hate the Pats or Brady. I think they are both damn good. For fans who should be used to losing to the Giants in the Super Bowl, you're acting like it's the first time. If anything this time is you should be able to truly embrace and enjoy this moment. It only comes once every 4 years. Which isn't bad compared to Chicago winning the Super Bowl which seems to come once every 50 years.

so its lol and i suck and funny to take the blame when they win..but when they lose its a "judgement call"?
that was a 9 point swing..the game plan from the get go was just not working for the Patriots
They Giants shortest drive was 9 plays..so yes the defense got the stops but they were punting from almost half field each time. And if it was not for two drive crushing penatlies Giants probably would have been up 20-0. People can look to the Welker drop as much as they want..but too many men on the field, Ninkovich offsides (which was coming out of a timeout..he had what 3-4 mins to know where the ball was and to line up) and the saftey.
The Pats made the mistakes they never make, the kind that other teams make and it cost them the game.

it was a judgement call. if that was called an incomplete pass i doubt it would even be brought up that it should've been called a safety.
were you surrprised by eli's long drives? is that not what the defense has done all season? they've let up long drives that a lot of the times resulted in 0-3 points. you're right about the mistakes. pats made a few of them that they never make (offsides on 3rd down, 12 men on the field during a forced fumble, safety on grounding)

i think they'll franchise him, which won't make him happy, but he'll get 9mil or so until the following season...idk though, coming off a 120 catch season and getting into his 30's might make him either want to cash in or settle for a nice lengthy contract. it'd be really nice to lock him up for 3/24

Well... I've stayed away from posting in here for the last week, gone through all the could've/should've scenarios from the game and now I'm just hoping they can get back to the SB and win one before Brady's done. This one was painful to swallow (twss), but it was a really fun season to be a part of. Just fell a few plays short.
With the draft/FA coming up, I'd really like to see BB acknowledge he needs speed on offense and for the Pats to go after a big FA like Williams or the like. A lot has to go right during the season, so they need a little luck as well, but hopefully they can be right back again next season and finish what they started.
How are the rest of the patriot fans doing?

Yeah Wayne's an interesting option. A veteran WR could hopefully help out immediately while they try to develop (and keep) a new WR or two from the draft. I've also seen some people thinking Meachem would be a good fit from NO, which I like.
Williams would be a huge splash, something I don't see them doing, but I also think they know they have the space and need to make a solid/big impact signing or two, so that could be one of them. I hope they draft some young defensive talent that can help the pass rush. Like you said, that'd be a big help as well.
Lastly I completely understand just getting over the loss. Maybe it was the missed plays, maybe it was the great ride they had been on most of the season, but I haven't wanted to talk football and will definitely enjoy the relative quietness before FA begins, the draft comes along, etc. Kinda like recharging the batteries. Just thought I'd see how everyone else was doing and what you're hoping for as the offseason rolls around.

To me, going after Mario Williams makes more sense then Wallace, just for the $ sake and I can't see BB and company investing a draft pick and that much money in a WR. I really really hope they go after Williams and then get a decent WR in the draft, and add a Safety or CB through FA. They were so close this year, and I think it's time they try loading up and getting the most out of these last 3 years with Brady.

What I don't get is when you select a WR in the first or second round, your hopes are he develops into a guy like like Wallace. Why not just use a first round pick him? He's already proven and he completes the offense by being able to stretch the field

I'd rather spend the money on the defense personally. If they can't get Williams then I'd target Wallace. But Williams is an absolute stud and fills a major need.

Oh ya, Williams is priority #1, but I am not sure that's gonma happen. That'd be awesome though.

so they have roughly 4 picks in the first 50 spots overall, correct? They do have holes that need to be filled. Corner and a pass rusher would be great as would a linebacker.

My thoughts exactly. Don't forget signing Randy Moss and drafting a WR and CB in the late rounds. :lol

according to ian rapapport, Benny has an unnammed team highly interested in signing him. if that's true, the pats most likely won't fight for green-ellis.

Sad to see him go but he's really just another guy. He got what the line blocked for him. Nothing more nothing less. His ball security will be missed though.

ball security and i think he always got a couple yards more than he had to. he wasn't a guy to go out there and bust 20 yard runs, but if it was 3rd and 3 he'd give you 4 or 5. never fumbled and always worked hard. he deserved a ring just for his hard work
dmbredsox36
03-13-2012, 11:54 AM
Yeah it's sad to see him go, but at the same time, maybe this means a more definitive shift to a quicker running game with Vereen/Ridley. The ball security will be missed by BJGE obviously, but maybe now the Pats can have a legitimate running game that compliments their passing game. They haven't had that in awhile.

Me: Holy shit, you're Lee Evans. I love you.
Evans: Yeah....thanks, I appreciate that.
Me: I'm a Patriots fan, I seriously love you.
Evans: Whatever.
Apparently, that wasn't cool of me to say? No one in Baltimore loves you, dude, so what the fuck!

Saw the Love news, and not surprised with the Lloyd signing. It wasn't my ideal option, but it seemed the most logical given his background with McDaniels. I still hope they try and draft some young WRs (hello Greg Childs) to groom along in the process and don't cut before next season starts.

Patriots are also said to be interested in packaging their 2 first rounders to move into the top 10. Just saw a tweet from a draft scout on this but I can't link it on my phone

Wow, that'd be such a different move for them. I like it! Maybe they feel they can get a difference maker up in the top 10 and still get their guys in the second. Very interesting. Thanks for the info.

Lloyd just doesn't seem like a Belichick guy. He has been on 5 times in 9 years and not a very "locker room friendly" kind of guy, according to the Boston Globe report from last week.

Glad the see the Pats signing big FA's, and by big FA's I mean special teamers. :roll eyes
I understand the Pats aren't one of the teams that jumps all over FA's on the first day, and considering some of the ridiculous contracts handed out, it's the right move. But, I'd still like them to see them sign upper level FA type. Sometimes a 'complimentary piece' isn't enough.

Idk, I'm interested to see how it plays out. BB and McDaniels have to feel comfortable with Lloyd's familiarity with the offense. For a team that can't draft and develop a WR to save their lives, I'd think they'd weigh that more heavily then the other stuff. If Lloyd wants to play/win, he'd be wise to conform to the Patriot Way and just do his job.

03-14-2012, 12:14 PM
Lloyd worked well with McDaniels in Denver and he's said he really wants to play with Brady. Moss also wasn't a BB type and he worked out pretty well for a few years, so I'm not too worried about Lloyd. With that said he's meeting with SF today so I guess that report I saw yesterday was no good.

Wallace is a possibility but I'm not sure he'll be willing to sign for what the pats will offer. I doubt he settles for much less than Jackson got and I can't see him getting that from BB.

I feel the same way. At this point, because they couldn't come to an agreement before FA started, and now with all these ridiculous WR deals, I think they'll keep the tag on him next year unfortunately. I don't see another way around it, unless they can do a 2/3 year deal around 8-9 million and make some of it a signing bonus or something to reduce the cap hit. Idk.

I think I'd almost rather see them spend the $ on defense then on Wallace. I know we need a vertical threat, but it seems like too much just to get him.

i think they offered him or wanted to offer him a 2yr 19mil or something around there. no way he takes that though :lol
they'll spend $ on defense, just not big name guys. with the money that willaims wants he can rot in buffalo for all i care. cortland finnegan 5yr 50mil. no way the pats spend that kind of money that the rams spent on him

How much would they have to look at giving to Lloyd for salary/years
with all these receivers getting signed for big money like Garcon who is not even half the WR Welker is..don't you think all this did was up the ante for what Welker is going to be looking for? They should have just settled on a contract with Welker instead of placing the franchise tag on him. Welker still has never been paid big as an NFL player there is only so far the hometown discount can go.
