I don't mind that signing at all. Just hope they go with 3 RBs and a FB. Fiammetta was a great blocking FB in Dallas, so I'd love to see the Pats breathe some life into their running game. So long Faulk!

I know it's only May, but I'm excited for full camps to get underway and for the season to be near. Can't wait to see what the defense looks like and brings, along with what I hope will be a renewed focus on the running/screen game. I think that'd be a deadly combo when mixed with the new WR additions.
Until then, I hope the Red Sox continue to bounce back and the Celtics can keep defying the odds. Otherwise, it'll be a long spring/early summer. :lol
Edit: I should also add I'm happy to hear Welker saying he won't be missing games. I understand he wants a long-term deal, but he'd be a fool to push his luck with the Pats. Big competition ahead for the WRs in camp.

Signing this was a bad move for Welker. Why sign it then come out and talk about the negotiations. and then complain that now they offered you less. The Pats don't need Welker he is nice to have and i'm sure they won't kick him out the door but they won't break the bank for him

That's why Welker is a boss. He knew it was a bad decision to sign the tender. He just wanted to play for the pats this year, work his ass off, and be with his teammates. He'd rather hold out hope for an extension than miss time.
That said...I don't think he's getting extended. This is it for him, gone after this year.

Yeah i'd say ocho might be the least talented receiver left...he's good for a spark if he knows the playbook, but it's not worth letting a guy like underwood sit if he's willing to show something.

dmbredsox36
05-29-2012, 03:40 PM
Yeah I'm very excited to see this offense take the field again. I think McDaniels will have new wrinkles for the offense (more RB based passing/screens would be nice) and he'll know how to use Lloyd to stretch the defense. That'll open the middle up for the best TE duo and best slot WR in the game. And I'm sure Gaffney or Stallworth can work the other side as well. As long as Solder and the rest of the line keep Brady upright, the offense will be unstoppable, again.
I think I'm most looking forward to seeing how the defense looks and performs. Based on talent, they should be moving towards being another dominant D.

"Packers tight end Jermichael Finley, a four-year veteran who tied his career-high with 55 catches in 2011, said the following about Gronkowski and fellow tight end standout Jimmy Graham of the Saints.
“They did well last year. But in this league, you've got to do it consistently. If you've shown that you can do it one time, you have to come back and do it,” Finley told ESPN Radio in Wisconsin. “They're going to have to show me something. Likewise here. I know the young RB's are unproven, but I want them to have a legit shot at making a big impact. I think it could add a whole new level of excitement for us as fans and another level for opponents to game plan against.

The offense is gonna run out there with Brady, Woodhead, Shiancoe, Lloyd, Welker, Hernandez, Gronk, Mankins, Waters, Koppen and Solder (who's declared eligible). After the snap Brady sprints backwards 7-10 yards, then launches the ball in the air knowing that SOMEONE will catch it.

Koppen is back, but he's coming off a pretty major injury and they gave Connelly a pretty good chunk of change. It'll be interesting to see who starts at center.
And yes, if a couple things go wrong on this o-line (vollmer and mankins health, waters retire?) than this offensive takes a few steps back from a potentially record setting season.

if the O-line can do their job, guys like ridley, welker, hernandez, lloyd, and branch are going to have a field day with the screens.

Exactly. I also think McD will be able to use Lloyd to stretch the field and move the offense downfield quickly. At times, the Pats have definitely suffered from not having a deep threat and being forced to the short/middle field plays. This season though, I expect that to change.
One other thing I'll be interested in seeing is how McD incorporates Gronk and Hernandez. He didn't have two of the best TE's in the league the last time he was here, hopefully he knows how to use both of them.
