Fuck, we were so close. :( At least we held ya to 13 points.
The Jets are a good team, and young. They have a very bright future. Hell, it could be this year.
The Pats are just one play better than every team in the league. Their preparation is perfect- just enough to beat each team. It's amazing. One of these weeks, one play or call will go against us, and that'll be the end of the streak.

J-E-T-S suck suck suck!!
I wasn't impressed with Penny. I thought he'd put up more of a fight. Both defenses, however were great. There were a bunch of Jets fans at the restaurant we went to to watch the game, and they kept yelling stuff at us (my brothers and I). Pats fans normally outnumber the other teams but because this was on local TV, no one showed up and we were left to fend off Jets fans alone. In the end, tho they were the ones all quiet. My younger brother does the rodeo dance perfectly... Got the Jets fans good and pissy.
Bring on Rothelasjasdjasdburger and the Steelers. This will be a true test. I have a good feeling. Pats have beaten a great Seattle team, a great Jets team, and this will be THE game of the year so far.
LETS GO PATRIOTS!!

I'm not taking anything away from the Pats, but Seattle is far from a great team. They beat three bad teams and have tanked from there. The Steelers and Jets should be the two biggest obstacles to 16-0.

But if you ever visit the state of CT you'll encounter the greatest display of fairweather fans on the planet. That is so true. I live in CT so I see this all the time and it annoys the shit out of me. I haven't been a Patriot fan all my life, but when my good friend got drafted by them I became a fan,now he's out with a knee injury, another one of my friends got picked up by the pats but they let him go before the season.
Celtic love? I love Boston, and all the Boston Teams, always said that I would work for any team in Boston. Don't knock Pitino, he isn't suited for NBA coaching but he's a helluva college coach, I got the opportunity to work with him at U of L and became friends with him and his family. Plus I'm close in age with a couple of his sons. Pitino is everything that people say about him, but damnit he's a good coach.

well im happy. pats fans- what happened?
The Pats were outplayed by a well prepared and well coached Pittsburgh team. All the credit in the world goes to the players and staff. They took their bye and used it to perfection.
New England has to regroup, pick up the pieces and return to their game. Mental mistakes (the very first touchback where the punt was knocked into the end zone, for example), turnovers, and injuries need to be addressed. The Pats are very soft in receiving and their secondary right now through injury. I don't know how they fan recover from that right now- it's not exactly open season on good CB's and WR's. Getting Corey Dillon back won't hurt, either.
cbsauder
10-31-2004, 10:06 PM
yea, -1 rushing yards due to now corey dillon really hurt them. and the early injury to ty law didnt help anything on defense.
I'm amazed by Rothlesburger. That kid is going to make Manning look like the douchebag he is.

Rob, I have to agree with you, the steelers were better prepared on Sunday. It's all right though, I think the streak is more of a burden and am glad that it is over. Now they can concentrate on fundamentals and just get back to basics and now worry about keeping the streak alive.
I used to love the steelers, a guy that I tried emulate my play after played for them. I think he was one of the meanest and one of the best but underated LB's ever to play the game. Greg Lloyd was just a monster, and a mean son of a bitch too. Damn, I miss watching him play.

Itll be fine if he goes, its the Pats for christ sakes, theyll work it out.
What the fuck is with wide receivers and their outrageously self-centered and arrogant attitudes? For the most part (Branch's case included), they're made by their QBs and offensive coordinators. There are very few receivers in the history of the game who have been able to change the game (don't get me wrong, they exist), and Branch ain't one of them.
I can't get excited or disappointed about departures and aquisitions for the Pats the way I do about, say, the Red Sox. The Patriots have an absolutely insane ability to judge talent and personality, and people I've never heard of come on board and contribute well. I'm not sweating the loss of Branch (although I'm debating whether or not to sweat the loss of #4...).

I wouldn't be so sure, while the system the Pats run is a great one, Willie McGinnest was right the other day when he said that it was the players playing in the system that caused the success just as much as it was the system. Just as Duane Starks could not replace Ty Law, Reche Caldwell cannot replace Deion Branch.
If you look at the Patriots roster right now, with the exception of Troy Brown, every other receiver on the Pats roster has LESS CAREER RECEPTIONS than Deion Branch had last year alone. Reche Caldwell has 76 career receptions in five years, while Branch had 78 last year. Additionally, every other receiver on the roster is in his first two years in the NFL and all of them combined have less than 76 career receptions. The Patriots need Deion Branch. He is vastly underpaid. He knows it, and they know it. If you look at the past, the players that Belichick has released or failed to resign and deemed "expendable" have all been on the defensive side of the ball where, as most people have pointed out, the system is the key for the most part (though I would even argue about that because the Pats defense last year was nowhere near what it was when players like Law, Milloy, McGinnest, Bruschi, Seymour and Harrison were all healthy), but on the offensive side of the ball, the system isn't as much the key as the individual parts are. You can't just replace Cory Dillon (though Maroney looks very good), and you can't just replace Tom Brady, and I guarantee that the Patriots, if they don't re-sign Branch to an extension, will find that they can't just replace Deion Branch with three rookies and Reche Caldwell. This is a deal that needs to get done, he knows it (why do you think he's holding out now? This is when his bargaining power is at its highest, if one of those rookies has a breakout year, his power after his contract is up diminishes greatly) and the team knows it, and I think that for the first time in a while, the Patriots are going to break their usual form and sign him to a big money extension.
As an additional note, I hope they're right about the new kicker from Memphis (I know I can't spell his last name correctly so I'm not even going to try) Adam Vinatieri got a lot of press about his clutch performances, so there's no way I can stand here and claim that he was underappreciated, but I would not at all be surprised to see the rookie struggle in November and December in Foxboro and I think the Pats may find that Vinatieri is worth the money the Colts paid him. I'm not saying that it wasn't a bad move to let him go because he is getting older, and the salary cap in the NFL is very hard to manage, especially when you're paying a kicker as much as the Colts paid Vinatieri, but I think that people may find that kicking in Foxboro in the winter is much harder than Adam made it look and Gostkowski or whatever his name is may have some struggles as he gets used to it, I just hope that he'll be a quick learner.

Let's get this thread back up and going people. We are lookin good so far. Maroney is the best back out of the draft IMO, maybe other than Bush (but I like Maroney's style better than Bush, but that's my preference. I like balanced backs more than smaller finesse runners like Bush.
I'm glad the Branch crap is over, and I'm glad Seattle overpaid for him by coughing up a first round pick. They are fools to be paying him 39 mil over 5-6 years IMO.
I'm excited about the team this year, they are really looking good.
Two things scare me so far: defensive inconsistancy (conditioning?) and Brady. On the marching drives Sunday, Brady looked absolutely incredible. Otherwise, he sucked. His passes were way off, his timing was off, and he looked flustered- almost Manning-in-a-big-game-like (except he didn't throw his hands up in the air and cry like a little bitch).
The running game has me giddy. Once they've worked out the play-action, it's going to be scary. Right now, they aren't fooling anybody (Conversely, Pennington had me fooled even from the TV camera a couple of times).
The Corpse of Junior Seau has turned out to be more than a corpse, and that's allowed Vrabel to move outside. That makes two linebacker positions better. When they go with their 5 LB, 2 DE set, good things seem to happen.
Granted, we've only played 2 shitty teams so far and only played half of each game, so it's hard to base anything on anything yet. The Broncos should be a better test, but they suck complete ass right now, too, and Jake Plummer should be good for 2-3 INT.

The Colts game is going to be good, but I think Colts fans are going to be crying at the end of it. If the team plays against Indy the way they did against Minnesota, the Pats will have no problem making the Colts undefeated season come to an end.
I am not too worried about the Bears, either. I mean, yeah, they have been good, but who have they played and soundly beat? The Bears have such a shitty offense, I don't see their undefeated season lasting for much longer. Their only tough games are the Pats and the Giants.

He's from New England, just like me; we grew up together. He's more of a baseball fan, though. He doesn't really like watching football with me because, well, I'm "that girl" who yells at the TV and calls people to scream into the phone at them.

Female, native of Pittsburgh, wearing too much hairspray/gel and makeup, with a very limited vocabulary and usually driving a Camaro, Firebird or Trans-Am, loves 80s music; very often like a moped---fun to ride, but you wouldn't want your friends to see. Known for their love of all things Steelers and Donnie Iris and extreme hatred of Cleveland. Consists mainly on Primanti Brothers and ethnic cuisine. Yinzers can be easily identified by their one-of-a-kind, ridiculous accent.

Great game for the Pats today. Maybe the split was the best for Brady? After two games not getting into the endzone, he counters it with two TDs today. 40-7 win over the Texans. Granted it's the Texans, but it's a win. 10-4 baby!

I think the Pats are over reacting to last season. The truth of the matter is they've added a linebacker nearing 30, an undersized reciever at a steep price, and an old TE. The Samuel situation isn't over yet either.

hopefully Moss will go to the Packers instead. But A. Thomas may be a little overrated coming out of a system in Baltimore that could make anyone look good. Welker is a solid #2 guy, which doesn't help with the Pats receiving corps, but Brady will make him look good, just like he does w/ all the other #2 guys he gets.

1. Stallworth isn't much to cream my panties over. I'm mainly happy at the thought of him because him leaving Philly would = upset Eagles fans, and that's almost as good as a happy NE fan in my opinion :lol
2. Thomas is going to be great. Him and Tedy will be a good team.

But to be honest, he's a poor man's Brandon Stokley or Kevin Curtis. As much as I love the guy, I'm amazed at what Miami was able to get for him. The Patriots are about to take a step back anyways from any of this "success". They are about to lock up Asante "Get Paid" Samuel for an UNGODLY amount of money thanks to Nate Clements.
And all this only seems like so much success to Pats fans, b/c any activity is better than the non-activity fans have watched NE do the last past few offseasons.

Clements contract is going to haunt a lot of teams.
What the hell is Troy Polamalu worth if Clements is worth 80 million?

Yea...lol...Joey Harrington's favorite target. Wow, that's something there. Oh wait, it's not. It's nothing and the Pats spent 2 draft picks on him. They were better off using one of their first round picks on the slew of WRs that will fall between the 20th and 50th picks of the draft.
Harrington sucks, so that shouldn't reflect on how good his/a WR is. I think that he's going to be a great asset to the Patriots. I was shocked mainly because you hardly hear about inter-division trades like this.
I'm just wondering if they will combine the two first round picks to get someone amazing or take the picks. I cant wait for the end of April!
Trippin4136
03-06-2007, 02:06 PM
Yes, but he put up those numbers b/c he was virtually the only guy Harrington threw to. You see what I'm getting at?
Nonetheless, the Pats could have found more talent within their first 3 draft picks at WR than Wes Welker.
Logically, before these moves, they would have taken a DB or WR and a LB. Now they have those holes "filled".
dmbgodagirl41
03-06-2007, 02:06 PM
Katie, I absolutely love Wes Welker. He was one of my favorite Dolphins over the past couple years. He leaves it all on the field every single game and plays football the way it should be. But to be honest, he's a poor man's Brandon Stokley or Kevin Curtis. As much as I love the guy, I'm amazed at what Miami was able to get for him. He'll be a nice piece for the Pats, but won't solve their problems at WR.
Oh, I dont think it will solve the WR problems, but I think he will be good; you know, build up a little confidence with the team and maybe help Tommy see that he might have a guy that he can rely on for a few plays. Im excited, still :)

How is it scary? :lol
Jon, I know what you're saying....and I'm not saying that Wes is some AMAZING WR, I just think that he's going to be pretty good as a Patriot. It's going to be really interesting to see how he develops; I think Miami as a team isn't very good at producing great players now-a-days, whereas New England (Read: Bellichick) finds a way to hone in on a person's talent and really helps them come to their full potential.

i'm thinking of keeping Welker in my keeper/auction fantasy league. 200 dollar cap, he'll be 10 dollars if I keep him. (I have Reggie Wayne at 37 that I'm keeping for sure.) it's a ppr league, so if he improves from his 67 catches to, let's say 80, and scores 5 tds, he could be worth it.
any thoughts?

everyone loves that the pats are in the news for something negative. I am a huge fan and really don't think its a big deal. and apparently neither does the nfl cause the penalty they handed out is peanuts.
what is $500,000 to a head coach?
what is $250,000 to a whole team?
and the draft pick is not even that important its gonna be like one of the last picks in the 1st round most likely and they have another pick in the round anyways.

People are hating on the Pats because it casts doubt over the NFL from 2001 to now. Don't you think the Rams and Steelers wonder why the Pats beat them after getting hammered in the regular season. If this was the Raiders or Browns it would be a non story. It still takes exceptional talent to do what they have done, but they have never been the best team in the league in terms of talent. They've alwasys been "well-coached" or "smart", which now may mean they were cheaters.

Then perhaps Palmerio is a better example.
While it's a different sport, there are some similarities. While most of their contemporaries have hung it up, they are still out there going strong. Harrison was considered done when SD dumped him, and then he turned back into a play maker after his prime years were behind him.

i actually will defend bonds steroids will not help you hit a baseball, they may help you hit it 5-10 feet further....but they are not going to help your hand-eye coordination...while obviously steroids are wrong they did not help bonds get that record....unless they kept him from getting hurt. Steroids actually do help you hit a ball. Testosterone effects focus, so increased testosterone makes it easier to hit.

Steroids aren't going to turn me into a professional athlete. However, if you have professional tools, they will definitely help you. They're going to help every player in a different way, and there are countless drugs out there which all do different things.
If a player cannot hit a curveball, drugs that boost focus can help.
If an aging safety wants to stick around there are drugs out there that will help you keep speed and strength.

I could see it being a combo of both. There's no doubt that many guys in the NFL take HGH, and it'd be ignorant of me to say no Patriots players do. I mean, Bruschi had a stroke at what, age 29? Uhhhhh yeah, that's......normal? Not so much.

It's they lose their (Patriots) first round pick if the make the playoffs. We will still have a first round pick thanks to the 49ers trade last draft day. This will be an earlier pick than the on they will (eventually) lose.

They also play different styles of football once the game is in hand. I'm not trying to turn this into a "running the score up" argument, but that does make a difference in how many points each team is scoring per game.

Well I dont' think the Pats have played a team with the kind of offense that the Colts have yet. I think it'll be a close tough game. Peyton has so many weapons at his disposal and is far better at utilizing them than say, Tony Romo.
