His supporters don't either unless fox news were to come out with one....

Oh god I hope I didn't give them any ideas....

The paper here in College Station, The Eagle, didn't endorse a candidate. They said something like "While we can't suggest you vote for President Bush, we also can't suggest you vote for Senator Kerry." How lame is that?

I cant remember an election where the newspapers endorsed the Republican canidate. Maybee Kerry can frame them when he loses and use that as condolence.

I believe the Dallas Morning News and Houston Chronicle endorsed Bush. And a bunch did so in the 2000 elections.

I didn't so let me rephrase however I still am only 27 but I do plan on Warton. Being book smart does not make a person good enough to run this counrty.

Just remember to spell Wharton's name correctly on your b-school application.

I know that being book smart does not make someone fit to run the country. It's just comments like 'oh could he even read if he wanted to??' that hold no place in political discussions. It's like knocking Bill Clinton for being a philanderer anytime someone discusses his presidency. It's just immature.

This is sort of what I was looking for, but I am new and cannot start a new thread. The search is what brought me here.

Anyone have any really stupid political endoresments from their area? I live in Western New York and there is a guy running for state senate. I just heard one of his radio ads that mentioned he has the endorsement of a guy named Baby Joe Mesi.

For those of you not familiar with boxing, Mesi is a local heavyweight fighter.

Pardon my french, but who the fuck cares that a third-rate boxer is endorsing a political candidate.

Seems stupid to me. Anyone got anything else that strikes them as amusing when it comes to endorsements?

does the new york times endorse candidates?

Yes, predominately democrats though with the odd exception of a Christie Todd Whitman here and a John McCain there. I don't think they've endorsed a GOP Presidential candidate since Ike though.

They endorsed Whitman? I thought McCain was the only GOP Candidate to be endorsed since Ike.

It was a guess. She was the most liberal Republican I can recall, I just figured they'd love her blathering. :)

Wonder if they endorsed Guiliani. I doubt it but it was amazing to watch every candidate from both parties trip over themsleves promising to continue his efforts!

that the nytimes endorses is really disappointing to me (i say that becasue, though im fairly conservative, i trust the nytimes moreso than any other newspaper in reporting relevant news).

i dont think NEWSpapers should endorse. i think they should just report the news. im ok with editorial pages because, to me, thats news (in the sense that we're hopefully seeing a fair representation of the coherently written opinions of their universe of readers/submitters of opinion). but, i could be missing something. can someone post a good explanation/defense of why newspapers endorse candidates and why its acceptable, maybe even beneficial?

I know the Detroit News is fully backing Jennifer Granholm (D). I hope she gets re-elected.

Edit: Sorry. She's the govenor of Michigan. She's running against a big-business ass hole.

anyone have an answer to my post about reasons for endorsements?

Endorsements typically don't carry a lot of weight with voters. They can, however, help an underdog candidate gain momentum during a campaign. During the presidential election in 2004, for example, John Edwards received the endorsement of the Des Moines Register. Many believe this launched his profile to the national scene and ultimately led to his second place win at the caucuses.

thanks chit chat!!

im still bothered by the fact that newspapers endorse. where, other than jim lehrer, can i get fair, unbiased news? oh wait, i forgot about fox news. nevermind. i mean, it is their slogan (or close to it) so it must BE.

when, generally, do newspapers begin to endorse (specifically for the upcoming elections in nov.)?

minnesotans: think Kennedy has a chance at the STrib endorsement? i mean, i dont see why not other than the thought that its basically a communist rag still clinging to the legend of klobuchars father... (that was unnecessary)
