I want to go to the John Kerry rally Thursday in Colbums, Ohio and that is about 2 hours from my house. I was going to turn in something tomorrow asking for an excused abesence from school because it will be quite educational. Any one else think I should get excused or not? Opinions please!

No, excused absences are for when you HAVE to miss school.

Definitely go. It's something you'll remember 20 years from now, a lot more than can probably be said about another day of school.

who cares whether youre excused or not? The school isnt going to give you even a fraction of the education that a rally will. If they bother you about your absense, just say you were actualy furthering your education instead of answering to a fake authority that grades you not on knowledge but retained information.

You really dislike school eh?
I don't know if you went to university or not, but their are definite classes that would suit you. Maybe not ones that would get you a good job, but education isn't all like that.
But anyways, yeah go to the rally.

Though ive been to college, I agree 100%. There are schools that would suit me in terms of education. But this guys in High School, which is a world of difference from a college/university. For one thing, a college or university doesnt care why you were absent. At most, the absense just gets factored into the final grade. The better schools evaluate you on what you learned, though, not your attendance record. A good college/u would look upon furthering your education via 3rd party means objectfuly, while a high school only sees your absense as a loss of funding. Ive worked at one inside the attendance office, so I can say that for a fact.

I think you're assuming too much ... the school isn't going to give you an excused absence. it's not like you have a choice in this matter. either go to school, or deal with an unexcused absence.

I have to disagree here -- the school only cares about your absence when it comes time for you to register as a student. As long as you're registered, the school receives money, because funding tends to be based on student population rather than student attendance. If you register and never go to class, your school still gets funding for you, but its reputation is hurt by low attendance rates (if these figures were ever published in an easily-accessible place which they usually aren't).

Oh man definitley go. I went to the campus of ASU during the third debate in Tempe AZ, and just being there while people were yelling at eachother, people walking around dressed as ducks and dolphins, there were buddhist monks meditating on the grass, CNN was there...it was just amazing to watch it and be a part of it. Then I went to the Kerry rally and that was also amazing. The energy was just flowing through the crowd...simply amazing. You won't remember your school day but you'll remember the rally forever. Escpecially in a heated and intense election such as this one.

Have your parents call you in, most schools don't need an excuse if its your parents calling, just so that they know you won't be there.

Even if it's unexcused, I would go ahead and go to the rally.

I was at the Kerry rally on Monday when Clinton was there. There were about 100,000 people in center city Philadelphia, Pa. The electricity was amazing to say the least. I have been to rallies before but this was truly the one that ranks at the top of the list.
Go, you will not regret it! Nothing could replace the experience I had today. It was just amazing!

I got a paper so it's excused, but like you guys said -- what's the big deal anyway? When my teacher were asking me were I was going I said "To the Kerry rally in Colbums" and they said "Oh, enjoy that." or something to that extent. I can't wait!!

I enjoy a good seeing a good political rally, even I don't support the particular candidate. It's definitely a good piece of Americana to witness so many people getting worked up for what they believe in.

The rally was complety awesome, stood and waited for almost 7 hours but I was in the front row and got to shake Kerry's hand, real good stuff. Can't wait for Monday's rally in Cleveland. Bruce Springsteen ripped down the house with his two-song set and it was sweet to get to hear John Glenn talk, I'd say about 35,000 people were on hand. Amazing!

You don't know your highschools very well. Funding is all about attendance not population.

Do you live in AZ?? God Mill was a mess before the debate, but sadly I was not down there that night :( I live about 5 minutes from Tempe.
