um... he sued her first. The settlement probably wiped out both cases and threw her a 1/2 year salary. The average sexual harrassment settlement is around 4 grand. She knew she had no case, that's why she settled. If she had something, she'd have rode it out.

Depends on what she wanted out of the suit. Which in turn depends on the details of the settlement. Which i can only imagine we wont be privy to. Settling the suit (or suits) doesnt prove O'Reilly innocence nor does it discredit the woman.

On the flip side...people who are innocent do settle lawsuits to make them go away. So that could be the case. And women who have no case dont always settle right away, they may be seeking more than the accused is willing to offer at the time, or has an alterior motive (see Paula Jones).
