Let's say Kerry wins the election - (not the point of this post). William Rehnquist is battling thyroid cancer, but for other reasons or maybe cancer, dies while Kerry is President. Who is appointed next Supreme Court Justice:
None other than Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and she will be accepted/approved. Senators do not like to vote against other Senators in situations like this.

Don't think Hillary would want it. While a SCJustice position is nice and powerful, she'd want to remain a Senator, with possible future aspirations for Pres.
I don't think she'd be approved, and her national negavites are so high, even if she was approved, it'd be a death sentance for Kerry's 2nd term hopes.

That is one of the most ridiculous statements I've heard concerning the Supreme Court.
If Kerry wins there will be quite a lot of pressure on Rhenquist to step down before Kerry is sworn in so Bush would get to appoint someone. This would not be all that bad because with the limited time he would have Bush would have to appoint a moderate due to the fact that if a right-wing justice were nominated he may not be confirmed by the Senate and Bush could be out of office before he gets the chance to appoint another.

Supreme Court Justice Hillary Clinton?
I thought that it was Bush who did coke, not Kerry.
