Why did the Republicans mail stuff like this out??
It is just a huge lie that appeals to some people's fears.
Anyone have a response or reason for this type of action?

Well, it's obvious why they did it - to get rural conservatives out to vote for them. A mailer like that would be appeal to some people's insecurities.
But I agree, it's stupid propoganda.
you have to remember that the ultra conservative wing of the republican party feels very very threatened by Kerry. That's why they'd say something that is obviously impossible to those of us with a brain, but they feel that they could sway someone to vote by saying that. I can't imagine that it'd work... but that's the mindset in the final days of an election as this.

"Campaign literature mailed by the Republican National Committee warns voters in two states that the Bible will be prohibited and men will marry men if "liberals" win in November"
that isn't exactly true. what is true is that a flier was sent out with a picture of a bible with the words banned across it beside another picture with a man proposing to another man with the words allowed across it.
now, I don't think that infers that the bible will be completely banned if liberals win. in fact what the flier talks about is the liberal movement to remove "under god" from the pledge of allegiance. That is significantly different than banning the bible, as if that was even possible. It also doesn't mention or show any pictures of Kerry.
I agree that the pictures are probably striking, and maybe untasteful. But it is a huge leap to get to "Replicans say Kerry will ban the bible" from "liberals want to remove 'under god' from the pledge of allegiance"

You mean having a picture of the bible and in big red letters the word "BANNED" across it doesn't infer that "the bible will be banned if liberals win?"

No, it's clearly talking about the Pledge of Allegiance. That's why they use a picture of the Bible.

I guess you are right, they should have used a picture of the pledge of allegiance.
did you even think about what I posted, or did you read it and then immediately start thinking about how to make fun of it. The pictures are designed to be striking and get your attention; when you read what the flier said it talks about the pledge of allegiance.
