hey all,
i usually used sony or hp for blank dvd's, but i ran across a great sale on memorex today so i picked up about 100 of them instead. then after i bought them and got home i started to wonder of why they were on sale. does ne one else use this brand? i know its not generic but ive heard ppl say they cant burn them? what brand do you all use? and have you heard of ne problems with memorex. i just dont wanna send out a bunch of dvds and spoil the community. thanks

I know of many traders who won't accept Memorex DVDs because they've had problems...and although I prefer other brands, I've never had a problem with Memorex DVDs, Memorex CDs on the other hand...

alright, i dont usually sign up for b&p's ne ways so i guess the other person wouldnt have to burn it ne way. so id be the only one burning with them, and ive recieved them before on trades and such and they work fine with my player. so do people just not like because them because they dont play or they dont burn well? it just seemed ridiculous to spend so much more on sony or something when these were on sale.

A lot of traders don't really care, but if you're going to be trading with them just give a heads-up to the trader on the other end so if he/she has a problem with the disc brand then there isn't a big surprise when Memorex DVDs arrive.

I think a lot of the problem is that Memorex CDs are so shitty that the DVDs have gotten a bad wrap by association, then again I know of several traders who have had significant problems with the brand. Additionally, I think a lot of people have just hopped on the 'Memorex sucks' bandwagon even though they've had good experiences with the brand.

I feel like a broken record.

Brands don't mean much, media codes do. Some batches of Memorex will be ricoh-japan discs, which are some of the BEST, and some are CMC Magnetics, some of the WORST. Learn packaging and how to recognize what kind of discs they are if you can.

Fuji and Maxell are often Japanese media. Every batch of Memorex I've gotten have been ricoh's.

Is there a website or anything with this kind of information. I usually get Fujis and I know to look to see if it's Japan or Taiwan, but do you have any other hints?

Even the Taiwan fuji's are very good. Fuji, tdk, and maxell are consistent brands.

same here...i've never had a problem with Memorex DVD-Rs, but used to have issues with their CDRs. fuji has been the best brand for anything i've gotten...cd-rs, dvd-rs, dvd+rs, anything.

sony hasnt given me problems, but i did get a spindle of their 8x dvd-rs once that would burn at a max speed of 6x (fuji and memorex 8x's burned at 8x w/o problem)

but as for memorex dvdrs, i havent had any problems at all, and even bought more when i saw them for 19.99 a few weeks ago
