I am a sax player, and bought just the riffs book. Where can i find complete songs for the sax part?

I know the riffs book does a good job with the songs that are in there, but does anyone know exactly what LeRoi is playing on other songs?

Nobody has a complete transcription book of Leroi's music yet. I suggest listening to the music over and over again and try to pick it out by ear. This is a great exercise for any musician. If the parts are still too fast to follow, there are now CD players you can buy that will slow down the tempo without changing the pitch of the music. You can also do it the old fashioned way by slowing the recording down to half speed and listening to everything an octave lower. This is how the Charlie Parker Omnibook was developed. Good luck.:)

get the guitar books. you'll find a ton of helpful sax and violin licks and some solos as well that are written out for guitar. then transpose down a minor third for alto sax and add three sharps to the key signature. also the changes are listed so that helps out a ton for improvising on solos. develop your ear, that takes time but it is an invalueable skill.

I recently got a guitar, and found some tabs that Tim Reynolds plays on, which translate into LeRoi's part. Also some people have tabbed out Boyd or LeRoi's part for guitar, so those are easy to translate back to sax.
However, I wish sax players could develop a system for sharing our interpretation of the sax parts, like tablature notation for guitar players. Maybe you could post sax parts you have intrepreted on this thread. For example, I believe that sax rif on Big Eyed Fish is (for alto) E D E F# G A G A B D E. This might be a little elementary, but you could help less experienced musicians.
Thanks for the tips.

I don't like the riffs book. It leaves out huge parts of songs, is missing key songs i.e 34 etc.

do you think i would make a lot of money if i published a book with every sax part for every DMB song and also wrote out the changes for the jams?
now THAT is a thesis idea...too bad i already am doing my thesis on something else :(

That would make you a more patient man than I. A book like that would be awesome though.

They won't convert it into sheet music. It IS sheet music. MIDI is digital sheet music.
