is it better to do one or all at once if one breaks
for example, my strings are fairly old so they are loose and then i broke the g, replaced it and it sounds funny (too tight)

i do them all at once. otherwise like you said, one will be new and the others will be old and it will just sound off...

i always replace them all at once ... but i dont break strings often so i usually never would have a need to replace just one string.

I prefer to change them all at once. It just feels weird to have one new string among all of the old ones.

I go with "all at once" as well.....EXCEPT......when I've got a set of coated strings on, usually the B and e strings will go 'south' first, because they are NOT coated. (at least on Elixirs they're not)
So, like somebody said earlier, you can get a standard steel B or e string for less than a $1......so it keeps them fresh and up to par with the rest of the set.

what kind of picks do most people who regular break strings use?
I use Dunlop Nylon .73 mostly (sometimes I go with .60 or .88). I like the nylon picks b/c they are sturdy and flexible at the same time and they never break. I rarely ever break a string with them.

that's what i got when i first got my acoustic...they suck. i tried martin or gibson strings (forget which one) next, those sucked, tried the D'addario and i loved them. best thing i could have put on my guitar. when i break a string, its ALWAYS the g-string. i havent broken a string other than that on either my electric or acoustic. i have once put on one string before the others, and it was the worst feeling ever. never again will i do that, so as of now i have my acoustic in my room missing the g-string until i get my lazy ass out and get new strings, which i might do today.

replace it? where can you find single strings for sale? that's like loosy cigarettes. :lol
I'll use nothing but Elixers. I have very sweaty hands, so nothing else lasts me at all. D'Addarios are nice for about a day for me and they're toast.

the elixers just completely tore apart my hands and were nice for a day or so. the D'Addarios last longer and don't tear my hands up as much.
For you. I'm not sure what you mean by "tear up your hands," but whatever works for you. I get about 3 weeks of 2+ hour/day playing out of Elixers, probably about two days out of D'Addario. To each his own.

i would say elixers tear up IN my hands. They have that polyweb stuff on them and when applying something like fast fret it eats up the coating and throws it everywhere. it's a mess. i only use d'addario and martin maybe.
