WWE Champion C.M. Punk took some jabs at The Rock during a video game promotional appearance over the weekend. "You know, the thing about that is, he's not around," Punk told the New York Daily News.

"He's not around. It doesn't help morale when the guy goes right from his limo to the dressing room to the dressing room to the ring. He's very bourgeois Hollywood." .

I do kinda agree with him though. Rock is like a mid 2000's Hogan. Hogan did that shit all time back in 2003-2005. Show up to the venue, go to the locker room, get dressed, do his thing, leave.

It isn't exactly good for locker room morale.

Why? CM Punk is the number 1 merchandise seller, the WWE champion, and arguably is the 1b face of the company right now. Punk is a bigger star than Randy Orton who was always considered second fiddle to Cena.

They turn Cena heel and it gives WWE all the more reason to push Punk to the moon.

Cena flipping heel is not going to hurt anything on the business level. Orton was the #1 heel for a long time and I would be interested in seeing his merchandise sales when he was heel. I bet they were still fine.

Top guys still sell when they turn, it's not like that changes a whole lot.

Think of more than merchandising. How many times does Punk do charity events? How many Make-a-Wish kids ask to see CM Punk? How many movies does Punk do? How many times does Punk salute the troops?

I'm not saying Punk is inferior to Cena, I think Punk is the best thing to happen to the WWE in years. But from a business standpoint, not just merchandising, Cena is the face of this company and to turn him heel would be flat out ass backwards... as much as I'd LOVE to see it happen.

Most guys, when they turn, don't have nearly as much passion one way or another as Cena does.

Also, parents are less likely to buy their kids a heel's merch. Adults probably won't buy Cena shit for themselves, if only out of embarrassment for how much they hated him.

PR means a whole whole whole lot more to the WWE than you're giving it credit for. The only "league" with more of an image problem than the WWE is the NBA. Because of the product, you need as much good PR as you can get. You'd be surprised how much the WWE prides itself on that.

Rock was way different. I don't think you can ever make Cena the Rock. He's not good enough.

Just to add on to this: the Rock got his fame and support by being amazing on the mic and awesome in the ring. Cena gets his support by being the good guy that all the kids and parents love. Two totally different personas. By flipping Cena, you'd take away the only things that made him this successful.

Look back on the "rapper Cena" stuff that everyone loves so much...it sucks. I agree, it's stupid. It makes him look like a dumbass when he comes out and says, "You people are chanting a breakfast cereal! That's why I love you!" when they're making fun of him.

That's why nobody takes Cena seriously, because they make his character look so stupid. It's one thing to be the "good guy" face that he is, but's it's another thing to constantly get shit on by a good majority of the audience and just brush it off and laugh about it. It hurts any legitimacy he has to be honest.

I feel like Tweener Cena vs Mega-Star Face Rock would just be a let down. You know the entire stadium in Miami is going to be pro-Rock and Anti-Cena. Similar to RVD/Cena at ONS, and Punk/Cena at MITB. There MIGHT be a feint Lets Go Cena chant, but it is going to be 95% RO-CKY RO-CKY chants. I just feel like it sort of compromises the the storyline, because it is Mega-Star vs Face of the Company. Just because Cena is the face of the company doesn't mean he HAS to be Face. He should acknowledge the fact that he is going to be booed out of the city, except for a small string of CeNation faithfuls. Backstage Heat On Zack Ryder

There seems to be some heat from WWE officials on Zack Ryder for him changing his hair color to blonde according to PWInsider.com. Officials are upset with Ryder dying his hair before asking because most of his merchandise shows him with dark hair.

WWE Twitter Promotion

As reported in the past, many in WWE are rolling their eyes at the heavy promotion of Twitter during WWE shows. It is being said that WWE feels their ratings have dropped overall in recent time because not enough people are aware of WWE's product. The aggressive push for terms and people to trend on twitter is meant to bring awareness to those who aren't currently engaged in the product.Ugh... and bigger UGH

Word is that TNA is interested in him, and sources have said that they could bring him in with Melina. There are also other reports that say that they are interested in making him the star of the X-Division, and having him work a program with Austin Aries.

If Morrison goes to TNA, he would have to use a different ring name, as WWE owns the rights to the "John Morrison" name/gimmick.

You'll have to point me to John Morrison's five-star matches.

Morrison doesn't need to put on 5-star matches to be the best performer in TNA. I'm not talking crap, it's the truth. He's so far and away the best in-ring guy if TNA signs him, I don't even see how it's an argument.

Honestly, his leap to the barricade during the RR is the only awesome thing he did that I enjoyed. His Starship finisher is stupid, but he'd probably have potential in the X-Division.

is it possible that Cena is already a heel ala bret hart?

Speilmen230
11-25-2011, 04:40 PM
I could somewhat agree with that. In the 90's Bret was soooo vanilla, that the fans turned on him. The US fans embraced the heel like attitude of HBK/SCSA (ala CM Punk), and they hated the super face nature of Bret. The Canadians were loyal to Bret, (ala John Cena).

JacobLovesYou

The difference is that you'll never get an arena that pure pro Cena. He got booed non stop in Boston a few weeks ago.

I finally just watched RAW from this week. King said like 7 words in 2 hours and I didn't miss him at all. I don't know id he was sick or just couldn't get a word in with Booker out there, but he might as well have stayed backstage.

I like the storyline of the Sheamus one so far. Hell, it's better than anything they've written in real life lately. :lol

My only quarrel with it is that there's too many cutscenes that you just worked towards and the outcomes are pretty much pre-determined and what you do doesn't have consequences like last year's game. My problem with RTWM last year was not enough cutscenes, this year, too many. :lol

Doesn't matter how stupid it is really, it's a storyline, probably the ONLY lasting storyline the Undertaker will ever have. If he goes 19-1, what do they talk about 10 years from now when they look back at the Undertaker? He's far too important to the history of this company to not give him some sort of distinction. Shawn is Mr. WrestleMania. Stone Cold is the rebel. The Rock is the entertainer. Cena is the hero. What is Undertaker?

I understand the aura of it. I find it impressive that he has been healthy and enough of a big draw to keep that streak going for 20 years.

But I am sure there are some wrestling fans, like the "It's real to me, damnit!!" guy, who think the streak is as impressive as Ripken's or Favre's. That's where I draw the line.

This is dating back to the infancy of pay-per-view in the 1980's. The ECW branded "December To Dismember" PPV drew 55,000 buys in North America.
..

Not surprising in the least bit considering it was what, three weeks after Hell in a Cell? It was doomed from the start, at least in terms of buy numbers.

Speilmen230

and yet they still made 6.5 million dollars just in pay per view buys.

Anyone know what TNA's buyrates are?

Yeah 3 ppvs in a month was a joke. They should've spaced HiaC & Vengeance normally and given NoC away for free on a Friday night on NBC.

I have always said that they need to do away with 2 PPV's and have SNME and another SuperShow and make them Big events similar to PPV Title matches and such.

I've hated Undertakers WM streak for years and will be very disappointed if he retires with it intact. He has put on amazing matches at WM, especially the last 3 years working with HBK and HHH, but it seems pointless for him not to put someone over and end the streak when he retires.

You honestly think the WWE isn't going to bank in on all the possibly money to be made from 20-0 merchandise? all 20 matches in a DVD set, T-Shirts, Toys, ect. ect.

Taker's streak has just gotten stale and boring. It should have ended years ago. There's nothing remotely exciting about a guy coming around once a year and winning a match at the flagship PPV and then disappearing for the rest of the year.

Even though it's been match of the night the past three years, at least...mostly because of it being "the" match.

You gotta consider that while putting a guy over at WM would be a good notion, these same guys can get over during the weekly shows and other PPVs. However, Taker losing would forever put that blemish of x-1 on the record.

I don't care for the record myself since the deadman is very near his last days I'm guessing, as long as he puts on a good match I could care less whether he goes 20-0 or 19-1.

The time for him losing the streak is pretty much over. He wanted to do it for a few years, just no one was in the right place for it.

JacobLovesYou
12-01-2011, 08:00 PM
There's still nobody in place for it. The time to do it was several years ago. If Taker put someone over now it would backfire. The better idea in my mind is to find a young company guy who is already undefeated at WM or hasn't wrestled at WM yet and build a new, unmentioned streak with him for 7 or 8 years and see where his career is at and whether or not you want to make it a storyline or bury it. I don't think anyone will ever have the longevity to beat 20, but you could make it someones goal. I like the idea of the streak being like DiMaggios 56 streak. This idea would work great if they'd ended the streak at like 12 when they should've.

I would mark for an Austin vs. Taker WM match and have Austin end the streak. He's probably the biggest seller in WWE history and he'd be a great guy to end the streak in my opinion. It'll never happen though.

Ending the streak is the biggest accomplishment in the company and no one is worthy of it nor will they do it.

On the current roster? Yes, I would probably agree.

However, there are plenty of other guys bigger and better than Taker that they could bring back to break the streak. I think you almost have to end it at some point, otherwise it won't be fair to Taker down the road. If he still has the undefeated streak hanging over his head, he's going to feel obligated to come back and defend it, especially if 'E is hurting for a storyline going into a Mania.

This is why i firmly believe that Kane, on his third attempt, will end the streak this year. It adds to Kane's legacy, who is really only remembered for his Royal Rumble dominance, and puts a definite end to Takers career. Kane's been a loyal member of the company for the last 17 years and deserves it

I personally would like to see Kane come back at the Rumble, win that, and take on Cm Punk. A masked Kane vs Punk for the title would be badass.

Watched Bret and Shawn dvd. Compelling. Worth watching.

So I have a buddy that's a newspaper guy and on WWE mailing list. He just sent me an early Christmas gift. A bunch of DVDs including Ladder Matches 2, Crash and Burn; Jericho, Breaking the Code; Shawn vs. Bret Rivalry (already had it but oh well); Stone Cold 4 disc; Wrestlemania story; Greatest stars of 21st Century; and maybe one or two others. I'm like...wow.
