this raw has actually impressed me. It is amazing what having clean finishes can do for a show. Non-clean finishes is what killed WCW.
Edit: Cena/Orton next week ftw. As long as the match is a clean finish and they give them a good amount of time i will be very happy.

You won't ever...EEEEEVVVER be the same Again.
All of the above is complete truth.
Bryan Danielson and The Miz
Chris Jericho and John Morrison
Randy Orton hitting his prime and the crowd eating everything about him up.
Wade Barrett is a legit new worker.
H if he ever comes back is worth it if for anything his microphone work.

I agree with most of this, and was giving the entire topic a lot of thought tonight, but ultimately I don't like it happening at this PPV. Seems too soon, at least for Danielson. It'd be nice for Danielson to continue to have to build himself up and earn his keep more. Heck, I know he's legit and I know he'll be fine, but for the sake of the masses, he should have to suffer a tad bit more before reaping some major (title) benefits.

True. I think (or hope, at least) Miz is a good enough worker at this point to be able to balance multiple storylines and multiple feuds simultaneously. Even if he (and the 'E) shoves his MITB status and whatnot down our throats, that'd be fine to hold off Danielson for another month and a half.

I would love for them to bring in a recognizable heel figure. I don't have anyone specific in mind, but i think they could pull off a legend or someone from the past who is good. Jesse Ventura would be cool or Million Dollar Man.

Oh, and am I the only one in here that doesn't like TNA?
No.
I try to like TNA, and I desperately wish they could step up and put on good television and create decent competition for WWE, but I just don't see what many of the people in this thread see in TNA. It's often laughable at best, and terrible at its worst. The company needs to find an identity, ideally one of its own creation, and stick to it. For every stupid thing on Raw (like the booking/execution of the Edge-Khali match last night), there's 2-3 stupid things that happen on Impact. WWE hasn't been great for a long time, but their overall product is still much, much better than anything TNA has been able to come up with.
Some people will disagree, but I really think Heyman could have come into TNA and made some noise; it's a shame they couldn't work something out. In the very least he would have been able to create sensible, stable storylines with an emphasis on forward thinking instead of reactionary booking. His run as a writer on SmackDown a few years back was really the best that brand has ever been; no reason to think he couldn't do the same thing for TNA.
K3nTaKa0s
09-07-2010, 06:32 PM
WWE is atrocious. No Surrender blew Summerslam out of the water.
Like I said before.. what is Heyman going to do to attract more viewers? Sorry, but you can't just throw out Jay Lethal vs. Kazarian and expect people to watch.
AndySlash
09-07-2010, 07:00 PM
TNA needs consistent, no-bullshit storylines, and Heyman can do that. I can't count how many times I've missed a few weeks of TNA programming and come back to find out so-and-so is now heel, after being a face for mere weeks, that the feuds that were happening three weeks ago now seem to have no merit on what's going on now, and other how-does-this-make-ANY-sense moments. You can't have that kind of booking and expect to keep an audience. You know what's great about Pope's reluctance to have anything to do with Anderson? Because it makes sense! It's really the first time I can recall TNA using such a simple plot device to further storylines.
Heyman understands the need to build up characters. Again, his record on SmackDown is proof. Lesnar, Guerrero, Benoit, Big Show(!), et al were made better characters under Heyman. Benoit won the world championship at the biggest event in part because of how well Heyman was able to work with the Benoit character and create someone people other than internet wrestling nerds gave a shit about.
No, you can't just throw out young guys and expect them to watch. But you can throw out young guys week-to-week, sensibly building their characters, giving them momentum, and hoping something clicks (hello, Nexus). You can do this with old guys, too. But it has to make sense, which is the biggest obstacle TNA faces. The majority of their booking, especially over time, makes no fucking sense. TNA seems to have no long-term booking strategies. You need to have an eye on the long-term if you are going to build an audience. You HAVE to. There is none in TNA. Guys like AJ and Samoa Joe have been given the ball a few times, but it's always been taken from them rather than either of them doing anything to lose it. That's on the company, not the wrestlers. There needs to be a logical, consistent arc for these guys. No one in TNA has been able to do that for them. Paul Heyman could if given the opportunity.

RVD, Angle and Anderson are all WWE rejects that are past their prime and don't really excite me much at all. It just doesn't say much for your company when you consistently sign guys that the WWE has released (and for good reasons usually).

"WWE rejects" is the funniest thing I ever heard. Anderson's firing in WWE was political. How the hell is he a reject? Pope was used awfully in the WWE. I don't think you can argue that.
Angle past his prime? You're joking, right? Angle is the best wrestler in either company and it's not even close. Anderson past his prime? He's only 32. lol. Anderson and Pope are both very solid in the ring and on the mic. Why the hell wouldn't TNA sign them? You use "WWE rejects" like they're signing Yoshi Tatsu.
Anyone who thinks Angle is past his prime does not watch TNA, obviously. Angle has been having some of the best matches of his career.
Someone said that Nexus has 'clicked'? Based on what? The ratings are the same now for Raw that they were before the Nexus angle took place. That angle hasn't generated substantial heat, at all.
Yeah.. Heyman had a nice thing with the "Smackdown Six," but let's not forget that these guys were already established stars prior to him being handed over the writing duties. Angle was a two-time WWE champion prior to that. Edge was the King of the Ring champion and held the Intercontinental Title. It's not like those guys were six nobodies that he transformed into stars. Hell.. Benoit and Guerrero were big names in WCW. Also.. you can look it up... while Heyman did the booking on Smackdown, the ratings were flat. They didn't go up. They leveled out.
Speaking of rejects.. how about Guerrero, Big Show, and Benoit being "WCW rejects" that WWE brought in? I guess they all failed in WCW, right? These guys aren't fixed to one company for their entire careers.
TNA has no long-term booking strategies? What about Sting's whole deception angle? You don't think that's going to play out? What about the ECW angle that everyone thought would be just another invasion angle like Nexus? Everyone missed the nail on that one. It was a nice setup to get Fourtune over. You guys gotta let these things play out over time before you declare, "there's no long-term storylines in TNA."

:lol:lol Wow, you really have no clue.
Angle was the best wrestler, other than HBK, in the WWE. He had a fight with Vince and left. WWE wanted RVD to sign a long term deal, he declined because he didn't want to work that many dates. Anderson did not click well with the politics.

Someone said that Nexus has 'clicked'? Based on what? The ratings are the same now for Raw that they were before the Nexus angle took place. That angle hasn't generated substantial heat, at all.
I didn't say they clicked. Read the whole sentence, I used the Nexus as an example of throwing young guys out there and letting storylines develop, giving them momentum, and hoping it all creates interest. Up to Summerslam, it did, even if the ratings didn't show marked improvement. WWE has dropped the ball with that angle since, but for those few weeks prior to Summerslam you cannot tell me the Nexus angle wasn't the most talked about angle in wrestling. Time will tell if the investment of time pays off and, as you argue later, you have to wait and see how it all plays out before declaring it a failure, because it's clearly not over yet.
Yeah.. Heyman had a nice thing with the "Smackdown Six," but let's not forget that these guys were already established stars prior to him being handed over the writing duties.
Save for Angle, they were established names, not stars. There wouldn't be EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE chants still today if Heyman didn't help make Eddie a star. Benoit wouldn't have won a title at the biggest show if Heyman didn't help make him a star (and Benoit certainly needed help with everything but his wrestling). Lesnar became the face of WWE, and Heyman was a large part of that. Heyman gave all of them that extra help they needed. He could help TNA immeasurably in this area.
Also.. you can look it up... while Heyman did the booking on Smackdown, the ratings were flat. They didn't go up. They leveled out.
You can pretty much say ratings have remained flat for 8 years now. I wouldn't put that on Heyman's booking. My point has nothing to do with ratings anyway, it has to do with his ability to help guys make names for themselves, which is what is really needed in TNA- their own homegrown or re-established personalities.
TNA has no long-term booking strategies? What about Sting's whole deception angle? You don't think that's going to play out? You guys gotta let these things play out over time before you declare, "there's no long-term storylines in TNA."
TNA has been a company for 8+ years. Two recent storylines aren't enough to convince me they have any sense of what kind of company they want to be and that they are headed in any sort of positive direction. In the last 8 months they've essentially rebooted twice, with Hogan/Bischoff and with the EV2 stuff, abandoning many ongoing storylines to fit storylines to these new people coming in. And of the two storylines you reference, the only one with any potential for long-term sustainability is the Fourtune one. I've let TNA "let things play out" for 8 years. At least with WWE you know you're going to get a PG-rated product, John Cena shoved down your throat, campy "comedy" and, along with the bad listed, some effort in creating consistent, sustainable programs and wrestlers. That's an identity, for better or for worse. What is TNA? What is their goals? Who do they believe in? What kind of pro wrestling company are they trying to be? I don't think any of us really know, and that's because they don't know.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. The problem with TNA is brand awareness. It's as simple as that. I'll say it one more time... Paul Heyman can come in and throw in a lengthy storyline between Matt Morgan and D'Angelo Dinero (you can sub these two with whatever young guys you want)... and it's not going to matter. What about that feud will attract new viewers? Nothing. It comes down to money. TNA doesn't have the budget that WWE is. So, it's a lot easier for them to market young guys and just hope for the best.
The Nexus feud has gone nowhere. You say it created interest? Based on what? People talked about it. Sure.. a lot of wrestling fans talked about it more than anything going on in TNA. WWE has four times (probably more) as many fans as TNA does.
Even before the "old timers" came in.. where did TNA go with all of their homegrown talent? Nowhere.
How are these going to make names for themselves if no one is watching?
So.. people cheered EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE. People also cheered JOE JOE JOE or AJ AJ AJ.

Just saw this and makes me wonder if we'll see more Lucha characters in wrestling:

I'm a mark for Miz too, so I would say him.
I think the WWE has several other guys that could be better if they were actually given more air time. Ryder and Morrison to name a couple.
Angle's the best in your opinion and you're entitled to that. Doesn't make me "ignorant" to wrestling because I have an opinion that differs.

You said you don't watch wrestling anymore, TNA is WWE rejects, and that there are a lot of workers better than Kurt Angle. That makes you ignorant.
As much as I love John Morrison, he needs a lot of improvement on the microphone. He's miles and miles away from Angle.
I also love The Miz, so I can't put too much of an argument into him having poor(er) microphone skills. I definitely think Angle is way better than him also, though.

It's ignorant because you're basing your opinion without having all the facts. I wouldn't say baseball player x is better than baseball player y because I don't watch baseball. When you said, "Haven't watched in a while apparently," that can easily be interpreted as someone without all the facts.

If you never cared for him on the microphone before, well, whatever then. Watch both TNA and WWE and find someone besides Jericho that's better than him right now. MAYBE CM Punk, and I love Punk, but even that's probably not likely. Kurt's at the top of the industry right now.
Also, so far on Smackdown tonight, Striker is awful, and Grisham is so cheesy and unbelievable. Undertaker looks and sounds like he has a cold/the flu. CM Punk came out and cut a promo, was fine; those two are the main event.

The crowd pretty much caused that one. He was still a heel and they ate everything he said and did up, so they slowly turned him face. I think along the lines of this "viper" gimmick. Nonetheless, it's working very well right now. Probably the most over guy in the 'E currently.

He looks like heck on television, for whatever reason.
Matt and Jeff should stick to tag teaming in TNA for the rest of their careers. Neither can cut a promo, and they're both old. I just don't understand their appeal, both in general and also at this point in their careers. Neither deserves the World Title, so might as well add some more teams to the tag division.

Haven't watched TNA or WWE for a little while so can't comment. Yeah, I know what you mean although Jeff was still selling merchandise for a while, I think the number 2 seller last year behind Cena for Vince, which is why Jeff still gets courted (no pun intended) by WWE every few months. But yeah, they're like a Dudleys act now and Generation Me are the New Hardy's from what I've read.

Nothing much really, much of what you would expect, a street brawl. Taker hits the chokeslam on Kane and retreats to the corner for a breather. Picks Kane up for the tombstone, and Kane reserves with his own tombstone and picks up the win.

Honestly, the 'E isn't in as bad of shape the more I think about it.
Orton, Sheamus, Barrett, Undertaker, Kane, Punk, Miz, Danielson, Christian, Morrison, DiBiase, D.H. Smith, McIntyre, Rhodes, Ziggler, Swagger, Santino, Kaval, Koslov, Usos, Kingston, Masters, HHH, Mysterio, and Edge
That's a pretty good top 25. If there was no brand split, they could have a real quality product, even if it must be PG.

I don't think I'd mind as much now if he won the title now. I mean, he's not had it for some time messing with Nexus.

Really? What the hell?
How was Jericho eliminated anyway? I only caught the last match when it was down to five.
I just hope they can keep a decent reign with one guy before having it change hands again.
If Orton drops the title at the next PPV, I'd like Barrett to have it for a month. Just to stur up the whole Raw/Nexus plot, which has lost a ton of luster since last month's elimination match. Then Orton or Cena can win it back the following PPV.
So when does everyone think the identity of the Raw GM will be revieled? By the end of Oct? Nov? Dec???
