Apparently The Rock has wrestled 6 matches since losing to Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2002. They're actually all fairly notable matches too. Can anyone name some/all of them?
Bo, I'm looking at you especially.
Some hints :
- 5 matches were in 2003, 1 was in 2004
- 5 matches were singles matches, 1 was not
- 4 matches were at PPVs, 2 were not
- 3 matches were wins, 3 were losses
These aren't in order...
Rock v Austin, Rock v Goldberg, Rock v Hogan, Rock n Sock v Evolution, Rock v Hurricane, I can't think of another one. Shit. Was the battle royal thing he lost to Booker T before or after the Lesnar match?

Oh crap, I forgot about that. That must have been 2003 too.
You got 5 I figured you would, though. The remaining match was Rock over Jeff Hardy on Raw.

my thoughts on The Rock:
i'm starting to think that one of the reasons the rock isn't wrestling at WM is because 1) the rock didn't think it would help his image for Fast Five and/or 2) Vince didn't want to pay the extra money Rock would need to perform because he thought his presence would boost sales enough.
having said that, i think the following is vince's mindset:
the rock (and stone cold) just being present is enough to boost the buyrate for this year, and since the rock is young enough, he can still wrestle at a later WM for another boosted buy rate. it's a great way to spread out and really utilize (or squeeze to death) the marketability the rock has with the WWE.

:thumbsup All of this is agreeable. There's no reason ($) to have Rock wrestle now. They can turn SummerSlam into a monster if they want, or ave him for WM28 if they really feel like it.
While some things, such as H/Undertaker, feel way too rushed and forced, WM has shaped up nicely this year. Hopefully Rock doesn't try too hard to be funny or whatever, though. That's my biggest fear atm.

Believe it or not, or contrary to the popular belief here, I enjoy your posts. I think there's a general consensus to the things WWE needs to improve, and although TNA is quite a bit behind WWE as far as competition goes, the differing opinion is appreciated.
Besides, I still watch TNA, although not as regularly as I used to. But usually when I make dinner I'm watching it, so there's at least 2 viewers in this thread lulz
At the end of the day though, to each his own. I dig The Rock's return, others are clamoring about how bullshit it is that he's never live. Different strokes for different folks.

don't think it will happen, but i'd love to see this order of events for rock:
1. do whatever they have planned for WM but don't fully wrap up rock/cena
2. rock sticks around on a really limited basis after WM and continues to "feud" with cena
3. things escalate again in time for the rock to guest referee at cena's match at summerslam (another boosted buyrate)
4. during the SSlam match, cena stands up to the rock and and gets him to do the 3-count after he hits the attitude adjustment on whoever he wrestles
5. the RAW after SSlam starts with the rock telling cena that he gained a newfound respect for him at SSlam and will leave the WWE because it's cena's business now (appears real, no kayfabe, like it might be the end of the feud)
6. later that night on RAW there is a shocking email from the mystery GM where he says he's going to reveal his true identity... cue THE ROCK's music... the rock cuts a promo to end RAW where he tells john cena he isn't going anywhere and that cena is still a candyass
7. as the newly revealed RAW GM, it'll still be acceptable to have "emails from the rock" on a regular basis and "via satellite" appearances occasionally
8. the rock makes a few key live RAW appearances around the time of important PPVs, most notably survivor series cause its a biggie... the time passes until...
9. the rock is a surprise entrant in the royal rumble at #30 (last entrant) where he lasts for quite awhile until cena eliminates him, actively reigniting the rock/cena rivalry
10. rock/cena have a few altercations leading up to elimination chamber where rock interferes and causes cena to lose
11. next night on RAW, cena proposes him vs. rock at WM... if rock loses then he must resign as GM... the rock accepts
12. during the buildup, rock is somewhat of a likeable heel because he criticizes cena and PG WWE and makes fun of the kids in the crowd. fans like us love it- feud has an attitude vs. PG feel, like a battle of two wrestling eras and ideals
13. at WM, john cena beats the rock in a match with hogan/rock like pops and spots. the rock puts cena way over by shaking his hand
this scenario is actually plausible because:
1) it should help with ratings for a full year
2) the rock's role would be perfectly manageable with his movies/other dealings
3) the rock being GM would put him in a non-wrestling role that would be filled mostly with video responses and "Rock Emails" (you can even email the rock and get a response just like some of the old mailing things WWF used to do) + a handful of heavily advertised RAW appearances and a few surprise appearances
4) the rock being involved, even on a limited basis, for an entire year will help establish a better mix of PG & PG13 material for the future*
5) the rock being present for a whole year would give creative the opportunity to REALLY push the new guys so the brand can have an expansion period akin to the stone cold/rock/HHH days after hogan/hart left
*the best mix of PG & PG13 would to have faces that are "eat your vitamins!" types and heels that use minor curse words (ass, damn, hell)
also, a year from now should be damn close to when HHH might want to retire, and he could take over for the rock as GM on a permanent basis

While all that sounds great in theory, The Rock isn't exactly the best wrestler. And Cena freaking sucks. So I don't think I'd want to see a match between the two with Cena going over, and not just because of bias. Heck, Rock has put over far less worthy guys like Goldberg, Lesnar, and Hurricane, but still. Cena losing to Rock could turn him heel once and for all. Set up a massive heel tear for years.

I understand that, but he's put over many others of lesser value/future than Cena many times in the past. It'd be nice to see him win a big one. Outside of Austin (finally) and Hogan, when has Rock had a big win?
Just out of curiosity, how much younger than Rock is Cena anyway? Like 4 years?

Love those shoot interviews. There's a great one of Jim Duggan talking about how Damien (Jake's snake) got frozen solid one night because it was accidentally left in a truck. Honky Tonk Man has quite a bit of (free) stuff on Youtube, and he's funny too (and living up to the overweight Elvis stereotype).
I appreciate Bret Hart more now than I did then. I never saw him as "the face of" any organization though, he was no Hogan in terms of entertainment. Great wrestler, horrible talker.

After realizing that wasn't a bright move, he then wrote the following on his Twitter page, @MichaelCole:
"I apologize to any and all who were offended by my tweet toward young Josh Mathews. It was obviously not meant the way it was taken." Then he added, "I was not ordered to apologize I said I am sorry because I am. Now can I get back to being a character again please?"

Uh, we were just talking about ratings in this thread...
You post Superstars trash ratings like anyone's supposed to either be surprised or care. And tacking Impact's next to them like the .05-.1 weekly differential matters.

Actually I didn't. Jack was curious to Raw rating predictions, and you and Bo were talking about Impact ratings.
When you hover around a 1.1 to 1.2 rating every...single...week, you're not growing, expanding, or likely improving.
Raw did a 3.3 this week? Must have bombed. Raw did a 3.8 this week? Was probably an okay show. Oh well, same old story. You roughly know what you're going to get. Unless you work for these companies or in television, the ratings are absolutely meaningless.

Shawn Michaels
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Mark Calaway (aka Undertaker)
Eddie & Chavo Guerrero
John Bradshaw Layfield
Dusty Rhodes
Terry Funk

Booker T & Stevie Ray

They start at 6:45 and do a match or two before Raw actually starts (usually a dark match and then a match for Superstars). Sin Cara did some Raw house shows this weekend, so I be wouldn't be surprised if they put him in the dark match. They did the same thing with Del Rio. Stryker is butt dude. So is Booker, but at least people like him more than Stryker.
Josh Matthews getting the call is fantastic.
Booker T is so bad that he's good. I love listening to him because of how awful he is.

"The goal was to come back in a big, powerful way," he said. "My return has been years of strategizing with Vince McMahon."
Johnson appears in the movie, "Fast Five," which opens April 29, and he recently wrapped filming on "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," the sequel to "Journey to the Center of the Earth." He pushed back the start date of his next movie so he could stick around the WWE -- and just maybe wrestle again.
"I've never said never. I'm open to it," he said. "For years when I was asked that, I kept my emotions very close to my sleeve. I would say, 'No, I don't see myself wrestling a match,' because I didn't want to leave that open too much. I wanted to make sure I was concentrating solely on my goals in acting."
He believes he can handle the acting-wrestling tag-team combo from here on out and dropped enough hints that he'll be landing "The People's Elbow" well beyond Wrestlemania.
"It's 'The People's Era' that's getting ready to happen," he said. "It's just beginning."

They start at 6:45 and do a match or two before Raw actually starts (usually a dark match and then a match for Superstars). Sin Cara did some Raw house shows this weekend, so I be wouldn't be surprised if they put him in the dark match. They did the same thing with Del Rio. They had him doing dark matches for Smackdown for like a month or so when his build up vignettes were running.
Where are you sitting tomorrow?
On the side of the ring about 20 rows back. Not in camera view.
HBK tweeted saying something about how Cold it is and he was on Chicago radio this morning. Oh man if i get to see HBK the final time before he goes into the HOF i will mark out bad!

They always advertise TV tapings early so that they can get fans in their seats so the crowd looks full for television. Plus gives newcomers time to hone their skills in front of a live crowd.

I wouldn't put much into that, he's done other radio interviews through out last week. Final Wrestlemania media push.
On another note, the reason why, I asked is because I remember you said you were sitting close to ringside. As I found out the last time, the sound absolutely blows the closer you are to the ring. You're far out enough where you should be fine.

My feeling on Rock is that he would do wrestling if he could fit it in w/movies and not take any heavy bumping. I could see a SummerSlam build, but 4 months of build might be too long.

Not at all. Remember Sting's build-up with Hogan/NWO? He wrestled like 5 times for an entire year.

They had Sting in the rafters, but Hogan had run through all the big names on Nitro until he got to Sting. I don't know how they can get to August without maybe doing an injury angle and the competitor comes back in July to shoot an angle/promo to build for August. That would work. But just weekly promos until August would get old.

That they did, but like someone else said, you can have him still on the show as a character without having him present every Raw. Really for his character to be relevant he would only need to show up every other Raw or so (maybe do some back to backs, and skip a week or two). However, it seems like casual fan base doesn't care much for bi-weekly satellite appearances (case in point the past few weeks with ratings slightly dropping each week).

It dawned on me why HBK said it was cold out. A cold front hit here in San Antonio, and is currently 66 degrees (hitting 55 this morning), which is cold compared to the upper 80s we normally get around this time.

If you read it on the Internet, it must be true....
------------
This Michael Cole incident on Twitter has brought to the forefront a fact that hasn't gotten a lot of play - that being that Cole's ego has gotten out of control behind the scenes in recent months. There have been reports of Cole having tremendous locker room heat. One WWE source today gives us his opinion on Cole behind the scenes.
"Is Cole getting a big head? HELL YES," he says. "Ever since he was reading the GM e-mails he started begging to become GM (he doesn't know who it's supposed to be) and walks around like his sh-- doesn't stink. He has an opinion on everything."
He also has mouthed off to writers who hand him scripts, saying that he'll say whatever the hell he wants. Sources say Cole's on-air character has gone to his head and what you see on TV is what he has become behind the scenes.

I've been reading the Observer off and on for 20 years and I find it to be good stuff, especially the autobiographies. He knows his shit and the stories are really good. The auto of Curtis Iaukea was awesome.

sorry, meant bios. I've been reading so many autos of late that I have them on my mind.
No, the biographies of deceased wrestlers are always good cause Meltzer gets good stories that most don't know. There was a good story, for instance of Curtis Iaukea setting up a surf shop on the beaches of Wai Kee Kee in Hawaii and how someone complained. Well they tried (the cops) to take him off the beaches, he gigged himself and threatened to sue if they didn't put him down, claiming the cops injured him and he was going to sue the resorts that his shop was in front of, and so as a sort of settlement the resort who complained about him let him continue to run his shop in front of their stores.
You get cute anecdotal stories that you don't get anywhere else.
