RCA Records Chooses Musicrypt's DMDS for New Single by Dave Matthews Band
Highly Anticipated Single, "American Baby," to Be Delivered to U.S. Radio First via DMDS
TORONTO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/14/2005 -- Musicrypt Inc. (OTC BB: MCYPF) (TSX-V: MCT), the industry's leading developer of user-friendly and secure media distribution, today announced that RCA Records, a unit of Sony BMG Music, has chosen Musicrypt's Digital Media Distribution System (DMDS) to deliver the new Dave Matthews single, "American Baby," to radio in the United States. The song will be sent to Mainstream Top 40, Triple A, Modern Rock, Hot AC, and Mainstream AC at 12:01 a.m. March 17 ET. Musicrypt's patented Digital Media Distribution System (DMDS) is an easy-to-use, web-based system that requires no expensive software or hardware. DMDS delivers music securely and simultaneously to all intended destinations and is available 24/7. Its advanced technology allows record labels and broadcasters to control the delivery, receipt and use of their music.
"As mainstream music evolves, so does the method in which it is being delivered," stated Adrian Moreira, VP Adult Format Promotion, RCA Music Group. "Musicrypt's DMDS is paving the way for how music will be securely delivered now and into the future. Choosing this system was our way of ensuring that music fans everywhere will receive broadcast quality audio as soon as it becomes available."
In December 2004, Musicrypt entered an exclusive partnership with Billboard Radio Monitor to market and promote DMDS in America following an extremely successful year in Canada where Musicrypt's Digital Media Distribution System (DMDS) is the premier digital music distribution system in the industry. On March 1, 2005, DMDS was also endorsed by Clear Channel Radio, America's largest radio chain with over 110 million listeners choosing Clear Channel programming each week.
"We are extremely pleased that RCA has chosen our DMDS technology for the initial debut of the first single to be released from the Dave Matthews Band, 'American Baby,'" said Peter Diemer, Vice President Marketing & Sales for Musicrypt. "This clearly endorses the fact that our technology is the premier distribution system in the industry."
With the music industry revenues exceeding over $30 Billion today, Musicrypt has worked closely with its customers to develop user-friendly technology that securely delivers broadcast quality music to its recipients. Musicrypt has completed over a quarter of a million secure deliveries to date with today's hottest music chart toppers such as U2, Usher, Norah Jones, Shania Twain, Britney Spears, 3 Doors Down, Avril Lavigne, Alicia Keys, Nickelback, Christina Aguilera, Coldplay, Dido, Evanescence, Green Day, Gwen Stefani, K-OS, Hoobastank, Jet, Jimmy Eat World, Maroon 5, Robbie Williams, Sarah McLachlan, R. Kelly, Seal, Sum 41, Sting, The White Stripes, Tim McGraw, and hundreds of others.
About RCA Music Group:
The RCA Music Group which includes J Records, RCA Records, and Arista Records is a unit of Sony BMG, and is home to such artists as Christina Aguilera, the Foo Fighters, Maroon 5, Sarah McLachlan, Avril Lavigne, Gavin DeGraw, and Carlos Santana.
About Musicrypt:
Musicrypt's patented Digital Media Distribution System (DMDS) is the leading secure B2B digital delivery solution for the music industry. DMDS is a web-based delivery system that pioneers secure digital file distribution by incorporating biometrics, high-value encryption and watermarking. The first application of DMDS replaces the physical distribution of new musical recordings by record companies from the studio, internally, and to radio stations with more secure, more effective and less costly digital distribution of broadcast quality media via the Internet. Musicrypt trades on the TSX Venture Exchange (TSX-V) under the symbol MCT and in the U.S. under OTCBB:MCYPF. For more information on Musicrypt, please visit http://www.musicrypt.com

I think it's free but not for everyone. Who knows though.
But go to http://www.musicrypt.com/ and you can register for an account. Anyone work for college radio? Or maybe just wants to try to register? :)

This is a way a label can distribute a release securely and simultaneously. Radio sations are the only ones with the decrypter keys. Radio airplay will begin on Thursday. I imagine that web versions will follow.

i'm surprised the band hasn't posted news of the song being on aol tomorrow, especially with their long-standing relationship with aol -- you know, the central park thing and all. isn't the purpose of something like that to advertise and have people sign up for aol to hear the music?

It's not tomorrow night, its Wednesday night (right after midnight to be exact). I'm sure you'll be able to find a stream of it on the internet somewhere.
Plus, I'm sure people will be posting links to streams like mad on Wednesday night, it shouldn't be too hard to find one.
AOL should let you listen without requiring you to signup with them. They did the same thing with Jack Johnson, you didn't have to sign up.

It almost seems like it might be a song written with his daughters in mind. From these lyrics I read it as he wants them to stay innocent and not lose their faith in humanity. Or maybe just americans in general not to lose their faith in goodness, God, and humanity due to terrorism, suffering, and war.

i think its about america not losing its innocence after things like 9/11 happen to it. or at least dave wishing america wouldnt respond to these things in a way that would destroy whatever innocence was left.
"if these walls came crumblin' down

this part shows how america has moved away from that picturesque lifestyle where people go on picnics and actually have fun and enjoy life, but how he still wants to live that life and still wants to enjoy simple things like [whoever's] smile.
that's just how i interpereted it... just an opinion.
i agree with this too:
It almost seems like it might be a song written with his daughters in mind. From these lyrics I read it as he wants them to stay innocent and not lose their faith in humanity. Or maybe just americans in general not to lose their faith in goodness, God, and humanity due to terrorism, suffering, and war.

There is a divide in this country. That song is hoping that apple pie and lemonade, baseball and sunny-day barbecues are not going to be replaced by a 'fuck'em all and let God sort it out' vibe.

I think it was the pre-BTCS '98 MTV ultrasound special where dave said that he was trying to write more direct lyrics; not so obscure.
yet I feel like his older stuff was so much more abstract and elicited greater imagery and thoughts. now every other word seems to be the same. I think, in his effort to tighten his lyrics, he's over simplified things and, on paper, they come across as... dull?
still, the music is strong and I love it.

I doubt 94.9...I think I have heard them on there like twice. I say 100.7 only because Kristi Knight is the afternoon DJ there (she was the former DJ on 95.7, before it turned to rap), she has been a decent DMB supporter in the past, as far as playing their material..but I guess we'll see.

Did a search and didn't find this... sorry if someone already posted it and or if it is shit. Was posted on the warehouse boards
From Billboard magazine
Dave Matthews Band has christened its new album "Stand Up," which will be released May 10 via RCA. First single "American Baby" will premiere at midnight tomorrow (March 15) exclusively via AOL Music's First Listen initiative. "Stand Up" was previewed for a select crowd last night in DMB's Charlottesville, Va., home base.
The album is the follow-up to 2002's "Busted Stuff," which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 1.9 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
DMB has given fans a peak into the sessions via video clips on a dedicated new album Web site. The latest posting shows the band working through an up-tempo new song with an acoustic guitar lead in the vein of the early hit "Satellite."
"This is one of the best experiences ever we've had in the studio," bassist
Stefan Lessard says. "Things happened so organically and I think we've really captured the essence of what makes us gel so well as a band."
Although a track list has not yet been confirmed, among the songs expected to make the final cut are the vocal harmony-laden "Dream Girl," "Stolen Away," "Smooth Ride," "Hello Again," "Joy Ride," "Die Trying" and "Old Dirt Road."
As previously reported, DMB will embark on its annual summer tour beginning June 1 in Maryland Heights, Mo. The first Australian dates of the group's career begin March 21 in Melbourne.

Just wondering what you think DMB might do about releasing American Baby as a single on iTunes. I think they'd be dumb not to, because they'll get front page (in the iTunes Music Store) advertising for about a week. iTunes is the most used online music source, and iTunes is great for selling singles.
I dunno what they've got against iTunes, they have their stuff on Napster. It's not like they don't like Apple, Dave has a PowerBook ;)

I believe their rationale is that songs should exist as parts of an album, which is meant to be listened to and purchased as a whole.

yeah, some albums have tracks which are album only (usually over 7 minutes or so). of course, if apple wanted to, they could sell dmb albums as "album-only" not allowing any single tracks to be downloaded. i don't really feel the need to get dmb's stuff on itunes though, and them being missing from there isn't much of a loss. why is it our concern how wildly popular their material is?

here's the way i see it: i'll occaisionally use itunes for indie releases i can't get easily (no record stores in my area), but i don't really pay attention to single tracks. either a whole album is worth getting for me, or it isn't. i don't really want to spend $14 on a new dmb album, and then on top of it one month earlier spend $1 on a butchered single track from the album. that's where i'm coming from on the issue. i like the itunes store, generally, though.

Apple can [and does] sell iTunes as album only. They do it for many artists, I think it's stupid for DMB not to sell their music on iTunes as it's the #1 online digital audio hotspot. As far as the Beatles music goes... there's been a huge legal battle between Apple Computer and Apple Music (the Beatle's record label) which I'm pretty sure has something to do with the Beatle's not being on iTunes. Hope that helps!

too bad these guys can't protect against the old reliable audio tape. these idiots always protect digital to digital piracy. have they forgotten all about digital to analog to digital piracy? an mp3 of this will be out at 12:04:32 -- give or take a few seconds because i'm not sure if the final track time is 3:42 or not. it's close though. ;)
The quality would be pretty poor. I'm sure someone here'll find a way to get it illegally ripped to mp3. It's inevitable.

According to an article, AOL will have the song up tomorrow, March 15th.

Good song, and I can totally see a big sax jam building on the end of that, but I wasn't too impressed by the song
I'm sure it will be 10x better live, though.

If anyone converts it, please don't convert it to mp3...at least until something like that is officially released. I can understand people want to hear it, but it's as easy as installing RealPlayer.
I've listening to it for the nth time now...yup, so much, I forgot proper grammar. It's pretty good...musically not one of the best DMB songs I've heard, but I wouldn't be surprised if we hear this with some insane solos this summer, and amen to that.

IMO:
1 - sounds a lil like John Mayer
2 - awesome violin
3 - electric guitar, cool
4 - not so cool drums
5 - cool lyrics
6 - going to be much better live
7 - very commercial song, to release the album and make success

dude this is angel from montgomery. dave covered it a couple of times, but i cant remember right now who originally played it.
this song definatly has great live potential. carter always adds to his drum beats, leroi will tear that ending up, and the actual studio recording isn't that bad. i like it. i think it has potential. different, yet similar, kinda feel.
