Whats up guys? Im a senior in high school and in a few weeks a band that was put together is covering ants marching for a closing spot in our school's talent show. We have all five parts however my violinist cannot bring any fills from the Just the Riffs up to tempo. Any suggestions that could make his playing sound complex while still keeping it simple? Thanks a lot.

1) slide into a lot of notes: sounds awesome... it just does

2) lots of double stops. If you're playing notes on the A string... play an open E or D at the same time to compliment it... switch back and forth to vary it. Sounds so much more complicated than it is.

3) When finishing a solo, there is one very easy trick that people go nuts for. Place one finger on the A string and one on the E string in first position. Play the double-stop with some pretty furious bow action and slide those 2 fingers up the fingerboard while playing. Have the next soloist or band come in right when your approaching the end of the fingerboard. (You can hear boyd do this on the Central Park DVD of his Watchtower solo).

- those are just some tricks that I've used previously.. I tried to keep it very simple. Not sure what level your player is at. If you need any other help, don't be hesitant to ask

Get the sheet music and run it by the band teacher...they're pretty good at that kinda stuff and odds are if they are truly interested in teaching and an awesome person they'll work with you guys to get it right. Ahh, high school. I'm a talent show veteran myself. Good luck.
