So I just bought this new slide to play around with it, http://www.guitarvision.com/mf/mf_frameset.htm

Yet it obviously sounds terrible because I've never tried before. I've been playing guitar for 9 years and can pretty much play any song thats out there, especialy Dave. Does anyone have any pointers on how to play with it ... other than just practice?

Thanks.

Try using some open tunings with it. Open D is a pretty good one. Also, I put it around my ring finger and mute the back of the strings with my index finger. That way you don't get so much unwanted noise.

try it on your pinky finger...it's hard to get...but it gives you another finger to play regularly with. besides that..learn some Allman Bros stuff.

i'll have to try that mute later today.

i think i'll try both fingers just to see what feels better. the slide is loose on my pinky so perhaps the ring finder is my only choice.

Thanks guys.

I've been writing a song in open G this last week & after reading this thread yesterday, I decided to pull out the slide & got a lot of ideas on where to go w/ the song. I actually wound up figuring out the intro to GIG that Stefan played @ the Gorge last year from fooling around w/ this tuning.

I think to tune it to G, tune the 1st string open to 2nd string/3rd fret, 5th string open to 4th string/7th fret, and 6th string open to 5th string/5th fret. Give'r a try.

You could also try learning the slide parts from Pink Floyd's Breathe and Great Gig in the Sky. Those are pretty neat because the effects they use get rid of that twangy sound. They also use slide on an earlier song called One of These Days.

I'll try those. Breathe especially

Thanks!
