What kinds of shows are you planning on playing? If you have a good pickup, you can often get a satisfactory acoustic sound plugging directly into the PA. Acoustic amps are alot of money, and rarely worth it, IMHO.

i've been told to stay away from fenders, as they mainly make electric amps, and the acoustic amps kinda reflect that.

There's actually a really good article about this same topic in the new Guitar World Acoustic. I would suggest giving it a quick gander as it gives good advice on what you should be looking for and suggests some good amps at both the middle- and high-end levels.

I've heard pretty good stuff about, and from, Fender's Acoustisonic amps.

But yes, PA's are generally full-range speakers so there's nothing wrong with just getting one of those if you're looking to play a show. That way you've likely got another channel to plug a mic into.

UltraSound Amps. The only acoustic amp you will ever need. It is the best acoustic amp ever. It destorys the Strawberry Blonde amp. It has the best acoustic sound, the mic channel isnt the best but for acoustic qualities it is the best. http://www.ultrasoundamps.com Warren Haynes & Leo Kottke are a couple guys that use these amps. They have one tons of awards for being the best sounding acoustic amp out there.
