Yeah, maybe...but that sounded like a tough play no matter who was playing short.
If only it had been A-Rod and the ball took a bad hop and knocked some of his teeth out.

I think the two hits and only one runner making it as far as second base contributed more.
But it's a long season and I can't WAIT. I can't believe they're giving us a day off tomorrow. I want some damn Indians baseball.

I know, that's like working on Monday, having Tuesday off, and then having to work the rest of the week...doesn't make sense...I think they said something about it having to do with the weather...they wanted to make sure to get that first game in...but why not do it after the series is over inbetween the Sox and the Tigers?

Won it all in '48, made it all the way in '54 with the best record in baseball but lost four games to none to the Giants (with Willie Mays' The Catch contributing to that).

I got the MLB audio too, and its incredible. I moved away from Cleveland in '00 and have been dying to listen to a hometown broadcast. The package is only 15 bucks if any other fans want in on the action. It even has an archive and you can go back and catch any games you missed.

And fucking Wickman. I can't stand his fat Mayor McCheese ass. He was possibly the worst signing of the off-season...when your closer has a 5.00 ERA, it's time to go somewhere else.
And give up on Juan Gonzalez. If he can't get through spring training without getting hurt, he's not going to get through the regular season. Put Grady Sizemore or Ryan Ludwick out there and let them get the experience they need.

i think howry has the potential to be a closer. from what they're saying on WTAM, he's got some good stuff.
on a side note, i can't stand all these people getting on peralta's back about that error. do i have to remind everyone that omar had 5 errors last april? cut the id some slack. he's not going to be as good of a fielder as omar for a long time (if ever, omar is one of the best SS ever). peralta can hit for more power though.

Did we trade Jon McDonald? I missed it if we did. Of course, being 1000 miles away from Cleveland doesn't help. I thought that guy was the hands-down successor to Omar...dispite the fact that he couldn't hit worth a damn. How did we not end up with him? Who did we get?

We sent Johnny Mac to the Blue Jays for players to be named later...don't know if we've named them or not. The guy was a hell of a fielder, but just couldn't hit on a major league level. I was a fan, but...oh well.

The thing that pisses me off is that the audio on mlb.com is about three pitches behind the Gameday layout they have. So I know what's gonna happen before it's announced, and that gets kind-of annoying.
But it works well when you see a home run or something and can turn it up to hear Tom Hamilton get excited.

Unless the Indians trade for a closer, I don't think we'll make it this year.
But damn...I left for work at the 5th inning when it was 5-0, then called home later to see what kinda damage I was looking at, only to find we had won. Awesome game.
And it's good to see the relief corps going 7.2 scoreless innings...when was the last time that happened? I think Westbrook's 7 perfect relief innings last year.

Yeah, I think you're right.
I just listened to the game from the MLB.com audio archive. I think it's a tremendous sign that they won this game for the following reasons...
1) The bullpen shut down the White Sox for that length of time. I mean our closer may not be that great, but our middle relief seems much improved.
2) The power to tie it up with HR blasts. Granted 3 in one inning is too much to expect every sign time out there, but still, it shows that we can score in a hurry.
3) All the bats that "woke" up. I was starting to think that they might be in a n April slump or something.
4) They played the small ball game to score 6 runs...and never let up. Small ball is something new to the Tribe in recent years, and I think it's an essentail development. And the fact that the team didn't give up an ouce of wiggle room...3 runs, 4 runs, damn...6 runs...just kept pouring it on.
5) They didn't pack up and quit.
I know it's only the third game of the season, but it showed me a lot about those guys.

well even longer than that really. even when we were winning in the mid/late-90's, we never really had an ace. closet was nagy, who was sweet when he was getting ground ball after ground ball. the indians tried to portray colon as an ace, but he never quite made it to that status, too inconsistent. it was just that the offense was bailing out the pitching.

1994: 66 wins 47 losses
Winning Pct: .584
Maybe I'm the only one old enough to remember the '94 team.
A .584 winning percentage is a realistic expectation for this team, this year. Actually, it should turn out better than that. The 8.5 games back is skewed b/c of how good the White Sox are playing. I look at winning %.

Alright I hope this post is taken in the spirit in which it's intended, that I'm not called out for being a "poser" or anything, in that I don't nor have I ever lived in Ohio and given the... uniqueness of my love for The Tribe :)
---Though before I go on I'll definitely say that I'm a big fan of Ohio, and as I've even told a few lady Ants that I've come across here from the Buckeye State, it's bizarre but literally EVERY SINGLE FEMALE that I've ever happened to have "met" that's from Ohio (includes in real life, as well as people I've come to know online either a lot or a little, of whom I've seen photo(s) but never met in person) has been attractive. It's my "Ohio Cutie Quotient". Some of them just not too bad looking, some of them full blown hotties, but as constant as the northern star, my streak continues, every one of 'em I run into is attractive enough to at least be a solid 6-7 :thumbsup --- ANYHOO.....
So yea, I wouldn't necessarily say I love the real life Indians, per se. Way back when, I was just into the beginning of high school, and my older brother (7+yrs) had all his studly atheletic friends join up on the same community church league softball team (though pretty much nobody was a normal church-goer, lol), of which I eventually became a smaller part and we basically had our own little dynasty run of winning 3 straight league titles. But at the start of it, the movie "MAJOR LEAGUE" was still pretty fresh, & because all the guys loved it so much, & since our team was so friggin good, in a large heaping of irony (since the real Indians were so damn bad - like the movie team at the beginning, also) and fun it's like we became the Indians, everybody had Cleveland hats, etc. That lasted for those few years. And actually for me, it's stuck ever since. By virtue of the 2 places I've lived in my life I'm a big Phillies & Dodgers fan (the real teams, that is) and yet I don't own ANY paraphanellia from those teams nor do I want it. The only ballcaps I've worn for over a decade now have been of the Indians variety (see #1 attached photo).
So around/during that time, for the summers from my post-sophomore to post-senior year I worked in the snackbar of a members only local swimming pool, and every year we had softball games, those employees VS. the lifeguards, we even had t-shirts designed we'd all wear with our unique nicknames printed on the back. Well, first of all back then I was given the nickname "Opie" due to my resemblance to a certain bigshot director now ;) (of course, I've been bleaching my hair for like 6 yrs now, lol). But by the time my 3rd summer came around, I carried some weight round the ole' snackbar so I took it upon myself to design our t-shirts. They looked great, first time they were dark blue instead of just white w/black lettering, and my motif was the "Opie's Indians" complete with a big Chief Wahoo design on the front.
The pics I've included below are ones I just took like a half hour ago with my webcam, I busted out the shirt when I saw the Cleveland thread here :) The 1st like I said already is me proudly with my current Indians hat, the 2nd is the front face of our softball t-shirts (with the Opie's Indians design). The 3rd is a design I did for the left short sleeve of a Chief Wahoo standing up at the plate with a bat in his hand, and the 4th photo is of the back of the shirt, the text sequence up at the top of "The Drexelbrook (name of swimclub) Tribe '94".
I dunno... I hope you "true" Indians fans dig it all (& that you can see it okay enough, it's decent quality), I was just BEAMING proud when I first saw them come off the presses those 10+ years ago, I can't even tell ya. Ok, thanks for lettin' me share in it, man!!
"Juuuuuuuust a bit outside." :D

Oh and I just thought of something else with me sorta related to the Indians. I remembered that you guys signed our castoff Kevin Milwood last offseason. Man, were we Phillies fans happy to get rid of that bum, he was such a dissapointment over his 2 seasons here (save for his no-hitter), plus we traded our best catching prospect at the time for him to Atlanta, so now we're stuck thru 2006 with the most ridiculously overpaid catcher in the game with Mike Lieberthal.

What's strange is that Interleague play counts for just as much as playing AL teams. (i.e. if we beat Cincy, it's just as if we beat Tampa Bay). We need to beat the teams ahead of us in the AL though.
It's also crazy that we play Cincinnati (an NL team) just as much as we play the teams from the AL East and AL West. That shouldn't happen.

Big game for the Tribe today. If they lose, the series is a huge disappointment after taking the first 2 games. With a win they head back to Jacob's field with a good chance to take 3 of 4 against the Tigers.

Do you mean like game-worn real player jersey? Because mlb.com has authentic replicas and that kind of thing.
And I'd just like to go ahead and say I really miss Jim Thome. Oh wait, no I don't.

I hope Hillenbrand gets hurt so Hafner can make it. Not a serious injury, just something to keep him from going. I can see how Hafner didn't make it because of the slow start, but he is easily a top 5 hitter right now in all of baseball.
Hopefully we can pull off the sweep tonight. A well rested bullpen can't hurt.

he was really good today.i went to the game, and i have no idea how he could pitch in that heat/humidity. he was really sharp, throwing right about 100 pitches, 3/4 of which were strikes.

Hey I just moved around Buffalo about a month ago and went to my first Buffalo Bisons game last night. Not sure if you know but they're the Triple-A team for Cleveland. Great game. The Bisons won 10-1. I felt bad for Ryan Ludwick though. He was in the majors not too long ago and he's batting like .160 in Triple-A. I felt bad for the guy.

Yeah, Ludwick has the potential to be a slugger, but I don't know what's going on. Who I feel sorry for is Brandon Phillips, who was supposed to be our next phenom, and now nobody's heard from him in the last 3 years.
And, I must say, against my better judgment...I am officially becoming excited.

I went to the night cap tonight. Great game to be at. The Coco Crisp in the park homer was so sweet to see in person. And then the T-Haf follow up home run was also awesome. The team played very well and I was happy to see them win both games. Does any one know what that top of the 9th fight was? All of sudden I saw the batter go down with the ump and bat go flying. Jacobs Field was going insane. It was awesome!
Dollar hot dog day! What more can I say? Me and 2 friends got a total of 14 hot dogs between us (a total of 100,000 sold for both games!). Ahh, it was a great day. Thankfully the heat went down for the game, maybe it's because we were not in the sun and covered? The fireworks after the game were fucking awesome, some of the best that I think I've ever seen.
Then after the game, it was hell, of course to get out of there. But, that didn't bother me. We were walking to the car, and I swear, there is more and more homeless people every time I go up to Cleveland. The weirdest thing of the night probably: I saw a black guy standing at a trash can, beating on it, screaming/sinning So Cold by Crossfade at the top of his lungs. It was funny as hell.
And then we had car troubles, the headlights would not go all the way up, so we were there for about an hour after the game, trying to get them. We got them, but the driver side one did not go all the way up. My moms car is a piece of shit. Then, there was a ton of traffic when we first got on the highway. And as, we were about 5 blocks from my house, we got pulled over. I swear these cops in this town, they have nothing better to do than bother teenagers. It pisses me off! Thank god we didn't get anything. I already have a warning for aiding a minor after being out past curfew.
But, it was a good, good day!

The batter was mad about a call early in the count. While he was arguing he just slipped and fell pretty much and the ump grabbed him and fell too. Nothing major.

We need to get rid of Aaron Boone, the guy's not even hitting his weight. Put Casey Blake at third, permanently. Just let him sit there like we did with Jhonny Peralta at short. Then get a power-hitting outfielder...we need one more HR threat. Or even just put Jody Gerut out there, he came back pretty solid after his injury.

I hope we can sweet the Yankess this weekend, because we can win agiasnt them but who knows some times.
I am really ticked off that T-Haf did not get picked for the All Star team, if he would have played liked he's been playing, I think he would have been a sure fire pick to make the team. But, oh well.
Speaking of All Star game, I was looking at Home Run Derby tickets for Monday and I can't get a pair under about $350.00 on eBay. I'm going to try and go to next years in Pittsburgh, does any one know the base price of these for this season?

No big deals for the Tribe before the trade deadline (besides the Gerut trade). Do they have the personnel to make a run for the wildcard? I think they do, but the offense needs to produce the way they are capable of hitting. We're only 3 1/2 games back.

What's amazing about the Tribe is that they have a better record on the road than at Jacobs Field. If they would just win at home, we'd be leading the wildcard.
