I have been very positive about the clips, but this is the one that I don't get. I can't put my finger on it. I'm not saying I don't like it, I just can't figure out what kind of song this is.

hmm.. that is definately a song i need to hear the whole song - not just a clip to pass judgement.
it reminds me of a Live song tho...

What happened the more up beat album that we were supposed to get, With the clips that I heard so far, I don't like it. But who knows it might turn out great, but its not looking good so far.

hmmm... a little odd one, I might say-- hopefully this song will "bloom" when the band comes in (later on in the song). Very mellow, almost dark. I don't think this clip is going to end up doing any justice for the song though.

the song is a lot like Little Thing or Too High. People have mentioned its just an extended outro mini song after Stand Up.

I have a feeling that this part of the clip is some sort of bridge . . . we're not getting the whole picture here. Noles - I think maybe something that is putting you off is Dave's "breathy" voice? it's just kinda weird . . . anyway, I like Stefan's part in the song, and I think we're either just getting the tail end of the song (reprise?), or a bridge that really doesn't reflect what the rest of the song is like

It's lyrics are practically identical to Wake Up so I'm betting it's an outro/ reprise sort of deal.

are you referring to just the clip, or the whole song? I think this is sort of a la BTCS with a reprise after the actual song.

I think it sounds alright, tough to judge from just a clip. To me it sounds like the end of the song. If this is in fact the end of the song or the ending is similar to the way this clip ends, it would segue perfectly, I mean straight into, LIOG. Listen to the clip & right where it ends, after a 1-2 second pause, imagine Dave's guitar coming in with the intro to LIOG. I think it'd be sweet, def something I'd like to see this summer. :thumbsup

From what I've heard of the clips and the placement on the tracklist (according to Billboard it follows Wake Up) I'm guessing it's an outro. I agree it seems BTCS-ish. I think the format of the album will be similar too, but as far as the song quality goes... we'll see http://antsmarching.org/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

I don't think it's an outro or a bridge because Dave repats the phrase "OUT OF MY HANDS", which just so happens to be the title of the song. I think this is a great clip. I think this is the song where Dave is on piano. Its very different, and vey melodic. Seeing this live could be awesome, Especially if Dave plays piano.

see the pig dressed in his finest fine
and all the believers stand behind and smile
watch the day lights up in fire
looking down from here

EWU is the only one left . . . and there's just one more day in the week . . . makes me wonder if we'll hear the others next week, or if we'll have to wait until the release date. seems to me that if we were going to be getting clips of the others, they also would have leaked with the rest

I would be surprised if we didn't get the other clips. They shared clips for the whole SD album.
Why the other clips weren't found was probably because they hadn't loaded all the clips onto the server or something like that.

This song has the same feel as The Last Stop Reprise. I think 100% that it is an outro for Stand Up, as on the track listing, Out Of My Hands is right after Stand Up. If this is the song with Dave on the piano, then I remember hearing that the full band joins in after a rather "slow" beginning (the song does start off with just Dave on a piano, similar to this clip). IMO, Out Of My Hands starts off slow, and then builds up, with the whole band joining in...

Why would it be an outro to Stand Up when it shares the same words with Everybody Wake Up?

I love the clip of Wake Up, so if it is tied into that song, I think it will be awesome and quite possibly may appease the fans that haven't been happy with the new stuff. (I am not one of those who are unhappy)

Does anyone else think this song sounds like it would fit on a NIN album (i'm thinking of The Fragile specifically) ... probably just b/c of the piano and the style/sound of the drums and the low tone of dave's voice

When I first understood the lyrics I thought that Dave is singing from God's perspective (the Pope is a good insight too!) I like how Dave is brave enough to sing from that perspective and I think it explains his submissive, soft, contemplative, pleading singing voice--Great tune!

could be because of audio drivers conflicting or more than likely you should try upgrading your windows media player
If none of those work, are you using IE or some other browser? (Please tell me you are using Firefox and not IE ;) )

I may be completely off on this, but from the lyrics, and as some others have mentioned, they seem to be kinda political. About the people in power and such being "Pig dressed in his finest fine" and "as the day lights up with fire." In everybody wake up, I see it as dave saying just that, for everyone to wake up and not be blind to these people in power. The song is very upbeat and energetic. But in "Out of my Hands," they have those same lyrics but instead of everybody wake up afterwards, he says "It's out of my hands for now" and it has a very mellow feel. So its kinda like in the first song is telling everyone to do something about it (like he wrote it before the election), the following song is kinda like what he thought after the election, saying theres not much we can do for now and we just got to hang in there for now (its out of my hands for not). I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone else, and i apologize for that, but just random thoughts as to the repeated lyrics. :)

NIN is my fav band besides DMB... and i can see what you mean sort of but sort of not. it's not as "deep" sounding as NIN. but it has it's similarities... i originally thought it sounded like Live (the band) but i now take that back completely. it kind of reminds me of Radiohead. it has a Radiohead type vibe, IMO. it is very unlike "older DMB" but in a good way.

Personally, I don't know what to think of this song. I don't dislike it at all, yet it doesn't really get me excited. I don't know, I liked the Smooth Rider, Old Dirt Hill, and Stand Up clips a lot better than this one. sounds possible, but i think it was confirmed that the song dave plays piano on is steady as we go although i could be wrong. i hope OoMH is played as a reprise to Everybody Wake up, and i hope they add it onto the end of the song live ala Last Stop w/ the reprise.

Personally, I don't know what to think of this song. I don't dislike it at all, yet it doesn't really get me excited. I don't know, I liked the Smooth Rider, Old Dirt Hill, and Stand Up clips a lot better than this one. I hope that this is a reprsie, which it probably is b/c from the clip I don't think there is enough going on in the song. Overall, not bad though.
why would there be a song called out of my hands on it if it were a reprise.
i can see where it would be a kick clown reprise but i think it will be a whole song that brings in the band at the end. who knows! we will find out may 10th

A lot of positive comments on the song - what could you expect coming from a DMB forum?! But nice to see that some people are giving their critique, and explaining why.
Me? I like it - partly cause it carries on being a different sounding song. Not something you're going to hear on the radio (definitely not in Australia!) it upholds what I love about DMB - the variable types of sound that spring from the creative minds of some extremely talented people.
As always, reserving final judgement until I crank it on the stereo (thru DVD of course)!.

the song is a lot like Little Thing or Too High. People have mentioned its just an extended outro mini song after Stand Up.
It's on the tracklist after Everybody Wake Up, not Stand Up. Honestly, the songs (Stand Up and EWU) are entirely different and yet I continue to see people mix them up.

My friend who was at a listening party said that some songs are like seguayes<--spelling?--(a la BTCS, but instead of intro's and outro's they have actual names) I bet this is one of those. I like it. Now I am getting psyched for the album.

You know what's funny? That's how I spelled it originally, and then I was like "No, that can't be right..." So I edited it. I figured if I spelled it phonetically, people would know what I was saying, instead of being like "Segee? Seguoo? What the hell is that?"

Dave is a genius.
Doesn't anyone think that this is a song from the perspective from those several people that were trapped in WTC and decided to jump instead of dying in the fire ? The repetitive verse from Everybody Wake Up lead me to this conclusion.

I doubt that's what he actually had in mind, but I think it's an interesting interpretation...

Yep, an instant classic.
There is no way this thread should be off the front page. So much to love about this song. The natural feel, the way Dave seems to struggle with the lyrics or to find the right words, the emotion. Tell me the last time you have heard this much emotion conveyed in a song. Maybe some of the first live Gravediggers.
After all the smoke clears this song will be sitting on top.
PS. I hope it evolves and grows a jam live. I could imagine the full band coming in at the end when it's just Carter drumming.

Yeah... I think this could have a Dreaming Tree-ish kind of jam at the end for sure. I'd love it.

It kinda reminds me of Hurt by NIN. Or with a jam it would remind me of BWBF.
And no, no one else thinks the singing is bad. It's the rawness that makes it perfect.

I agree this is simply one of the best pieces of soul I've heard from him in a while.
I've heard it's about politics and such but I don't know I get the feeling Dave is talking about himself and his inner conflicts. Just listen to when he says " I can't just walk away........." the music drops out like Dave left the band. Then he says "It would be nice to walk away but he's afraid". Man simply amazing.

It is alot like Nine inch nails, "something I can never have" in my opinion.
Very simmilar piano and all; to me, it's the best song on the album.

Maybe this has been brought up but I haven't seen anything, has anyone else noticed in the booklet with the album, Out of My Hands says "a home recording" next to it. Any ideas what this means? I was assuming everything was done at the new studio, maybe I'm missing something though.

My question is - why does he use the lyric "Our Finest Hour Arrives" in Out of My Hands at least 2-3 times but that is the secondary title to Everybody Wake Up? I'm confused - was it a title mistake????

OK - I was able to semi-answer my own question seeing that lyric in both songs but if anyone wants to expand on that?! Go ahead.
Also - want to say I LOVE how Carter fades in and out on this song. Great stuff. :thumbsup

Listening on the way to work today I discovered the "...our finest hour arrives" and "see the pig dressed in his finest fine" lines being in both EWU and OOMH...I think that this a most magnificent outro for EWU. It could be about Dave's inner conflicts but I think EWU is all about America/Bush with its bombing and hating (obviously:) and then OOMH is from the pope's point of view. The pope feels that as he is dying that the problems with the christian/muslim conflicts are out of his hands. OOMH talks about coming to the window ledge and how it would be nice to walk away; both could be attributed to the pope. Hopefully at VH1 storytellers he'll talk about it...
