Has anyone else realized that EVERY chorus so far is simply the title of the song repeated over and over again? Stand Up, Stand Up....Dreamgirl, Dreamgirl...and now everybody wake up, everybody wake up...I'm liking the music, but the lyrics seem so dull to me. I'm sure all the songs will grow on me, but as of now I'm not feelin it.

Thats true but I like the lyrics in the verse

"Oh remember the words of the misguided fool,
“Do unto others as you’d have them do,”
And not “An eye for an eye is the Golden Rule.”
It just leaves a room full of blind men.

And the finest hour arrives.
See the pig dressed in his finest fine,
And believers stand behind him and smile
As the day lights up with fire." I think those are damn good

I like the lyrics...What the hell else do you want them to say in the chorus...Hence that is where they got the song title from...usually artists make the songs then get the title...but I love the new sound...

Based on what I've heard of it, the clip is actually from near the end of the song.

The chorus goes something like this:
"Everybody wake up
If you're living with your eyes closed
See the man with the bomb in his hand
Everybody wake up"

I think this one is one of my favorites. I like the verse a lot, and I can deal with the chorus. The fact that it has a reprise is pretty cool too, and could make a nice outro in concert.

Haha....yeah! I re-did the entire website for my college's library (http://library.ehc.edu) and they gave me the option of using Front Page or Dreamweaver...I tried Front Page out for a few days and HATED it. Got Dreamweaver and it is AWESOME!!! I LOVE IT!!! I also love Flash, which I used for the website too (a slideshow Virtual Tour which is not "officially" up yet).

Look at all of their other songs...in ants marching they dont say ants marching ants marching ants marching or in the stone, the stone the stone the stone. Thats all im sayin, but i guess in a lot of their songs they do repeat things like dont drink the water and so much to say or w/e. It's all good tho, I'm not too worried about it, I end up loving everything that they do newayz

Kind of a steel guitar sound i guess im not an expert on instruments but i know its the same sound. Anybody else know what im talking about.

I understand what you are saying...hopefully it is just a coincidence with these clips.

I really have high hopes for this song. I didn't like it much in the first video clip, but something about it in the audio clip makes me like it a lot. I voice effect even grew on me. I think this can become a great live song!!!

has anyone else noticed that at about the 25 second mark of the "wake up" clip and at about the 10 second mark of the "out of my hands" clip, the same exact lyrics are repeated. i think its, "see the pig dressed in its finest fine." i know some songs have a word ar two thats the same, but this is the same exact lyric just sung differently.

Dreamweaver is the better WYSIWYG editor for newbs.

But FrontPage 2003 is actually an awesome tool if you're writing the markup yourself. It's basically the full-blown Visual Studio editor with excellent auto-complete (and full Well-formed and Very Well-formed XML/XHTML validation) - if you know what you're doing.

Yeah. What else is new?

There's probably a reason why the lyrics are repeated. Do you guys honestly think it wasn't a conscious decision on the part of the band (or Dave) to repeat those lyrics?

I don't think the band sounds completely together in their songs. They still seem like they're just putting stuff out there. You know? These don't seem to be that concrete. I want to hear solos. When Roi does stuff on songs they've been playing for a while he usually goes way out there and does his own thing. I don't hear him and boyd doing that on these songs. I think it takes Roi and Boyd more time to make that good stuff than they were given. I mean listen to a song like Lie in our Graves, Tripping Billies, Best of... Ants Marching. They would never make those in a day. But most of these new ones seem like songs they could have.

Why do you say you don't think they spent a lot of time on them?

based on what we heard, i think they/dave didn't spend a lot of time on the lyrics. the lyrics are very similar in simplicity to those of the majority of some devil (excluding gravedigger, stay or leave, save me, and too high). it just seems there isn't as much emphasis on lyrics anymore. esp. with this album, it seems to be much more about the music. don't know what to think about that yet.

so far this is by far my favorite clip and gives me hope for the CD. i didn't care for most of the other clips, especially dreamgirl. this one i really really like, but one thing that has me concerned about this album is the use of boyd. is he going to be able to play his riffs in tune this year? i hope b/c if he doesn't, things could sound really disgusting. i like the use of the voice effects as it leads into the "finest hour" part. that part is real awesome and i can't wait to hear the whole song.

Steve2TheO
04-24-2005, 02:48 AM
As far as song titles go, I just think the band is at a stage where they care much more about the big picture, the overall goal of their music. They're not as adventurous on albums because they're not trying to produce that type of sound on CD. Granted I would like a song title that has little or nothing to do with the song just to keep it less predicatable.

Everyboyd Wake Up is awesome, awesome. I'm telling you right now, this song is going to be amazing live, great vibe and great energy. Read the Mark Batson interview on nancies and then listen to Everybody Wake Up and you'll attach yourself to their new vision. Those lyrics are tight and they have a great feel to them, this song is awesome folks I promise.

For those of you who like to consider Dave's religious influences, I think the clip of Everybody Wake Up provides an interesting insight. I don't have the clip here, but it definitely says something about a foolish person who says "do unto others as you'd have them do," and establishing a new golden rule. Then it says something else about it.... but I am fairly convinced this is another Jesus reference.

Im as big of a DMB fan as anyone else, but the little clips he's released so far (and the background music on the video clips on newstudioalbum.com) is so terrible that Im not looking forward to this album at all. They only had to make one or two new songs when they made "Busted Stuff" (where are you going....the rest were from lillywhite), and now they waited this long and came up with some crap. Im disappointed for now, and I hope the album is better than Im afraid it is going to be. I think that most people who say they are into the new clips are just kidding themselves, based on their passion for DMB, and not looking at the fact that the new stuff is garbage...so far.

Not a huge fan of this its catchy, but the transition from "..as the day lights up with fire" to "everybody wake up" sounds really awkward and out of place. And Dave's voice sounds a little too forced or something. Otherwise its neat.

When I listened to the stream on VH1.com, I was bothered by these noticeable glitches in the audio during the intro loop. I blamed it on the stream.

I just received my dualdisc yesterday and noticed those glitches are still there on my master copy. I can hear them so clearly that now I think it was intentionally done in post-production.

Were they trying to make the loop sound like a broken record? Or, is it just really sloppy editing? I've heard some sloppy editing on a few other songs (in looped tracks and such), but not nearly as blatant as this.

Any thoughts?

This may have been mentioned already and sorry if it was (I have gotten tired of reading through the same things over and over...), but I was listening today and had an epipihany.

In Everybody Wake Up and Out of My Hands, Dave sings "The PIG dressed in his finest......"

He refers to him as the pig numerous times, and I thought: is this a direct link to the song from Pig from BTCS? The "greedy little pig?" I don't know but in Dreamgirl Dave sings "the greedy men who rule the world." I don't know what I am really getting at, but I thought there might be a link for calling them "pig".

Well, he seems to associate greed with pigs....

That is really all my "awesome" thought was.....i just saw a correlation between the two things.

Sometimes I think I am cooler than what I really am....
