View Full Version : Stand UP more similar to BTCS.........

than we all think. If you sit down and listen to BTCS from beginning to end the style changes in each song. Each song in its own way takes on its own personality. Though I haven't heard the whole album, it seems from the clips that the songs in stand up are going to have varying styles from beginning to end. In my opinion, this album may end up being a classic and transcend DMB to yet another level by demonstrating their ability to adapt to any style not to mention creating a style of music noone has ever heard before. We are lucky this band toured during our era. Thoughts?

Dude i was just telling my buddy yesterday how this compares to BTCS (so far)...The clips sound like as if they were recorded with the sort of energy that comes out when they play live shows...I listened to BTCS two days ago and then decided to mess around with the clips..I was pretty amazed by the connection of the same sounds...

Just from the clips you can tell the styles of each song vary so much, all seem very positive energetic yet very different from one another, that's all I was trying to say, while giving the community a positive angle at which they can look at the new sound.

It's interesting how some people will make positive claims on the album based on the clips and will be praised for it, but other people will make negative claims on the album based on the clips and will be bashed by the community with "it's just a clip" (when in actuality, both persons are judging a song without hearing it). I think it all comes down to the fact that none of us have heard the album. Don't let these clips make or break this album for you...May 10th is right around the corner. :thumbsup

i mostly agree with this. i think it's fair to make some predictions about the songs and the album, but only very slight ones. i don't like what i've heard, but i'm not writing it off til i've heard the entire thing at least once through.

That's basically my feeling as of now. There are parts in the clips that I'm not too enthusiastic about, but others I think show a lot of promise, but I try not to go too far beyond that frame of mind.

:thumbsup UTTAD, CRASH, BTCS, even Busted Stuff--all of these albums are full of distinct songs with a variety of styles. The *only* DMB album that doesn't really do this is Everyday (with the exception of a couple quirky songs at the end).

But nobody wants to not like the album. They have just as much right to post about it as people who think they're going to love it. I feel sorry for anyone who gets bashed when they say how they aren't liking the clips, because they (1) already most likely feel shitty about not liking the new material from their favorite band (for whatever reason) and (2) have to put up with all of the posts that flood the boards about how they aren't a "true fan."

What do you mean? I wasn't trying to say they are the best, but they may be during our era. I see around 7 shows average a year and never get tired of them!! I just feel like we are so lucky to see band that works so hard, year after year to come out and tour. If we show them support, by dancing and singing like a bunch of wild animals at every show they will be around 15 more years, and that is what I am truly excited about. I dont think they even hit their prime yet, 2003 seemed like it was the beginning of new energy that is going to carry them into the future. Butch began turning it up another notch, really becoming more agressive in many of the songs. There is a lot of greatness left in these guys, lets just get out their and have a good time.

I too support this. No more bashing the damn album before its even out people! I can't wait and I'm sure many of the songs will be even better on the road than they are on the album, as many DMB songs are.
As a side note. And I'll start by saying that I'm not trying to be a jackass here, but it's a pet peeve of mine. Noone (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=noone) is not a word. I've seen multiple people use it, and dammit, it's time to say something about it! :lol The correct usage is "no one." Also, nobody should feel obligated to put an apostrophe in all word's that end in "s." "I love DMB song's! My favorite of the new song's is Out of My Hand's. There will definitely be alot of dancer's at concert's to that song!" It's just not right! (Alot is also not a word, it's two.) I know this is not an english language board or anything, I'm not usually one to do something like this, and I know my english is not always the best, so please excuse me for venting. I'll stop now. Damn, I'm irritating! :D

the reason is that this is a band you like, you should have some faith in them. there's nothing wrong with getting excited if you like what you hear in the clips. thats the point! but if ya don't like what you hear, then consider maybe there's more you havent heard. it's all about bein a positive pete instead of a negative nelly. turn that frown :( upside-down! :)

What I meant was I do believe the next generation of kids will listen to DMB and they will be considered classic, and will be in awe that we saw them live. The pink floyd reference was from one day I was listening to floyd, and my friend's dad told me he had seen dark side of the moon performed live in '73. All I could think of was "damn, I wish I had been around then"

But also remember that it's not that easy to brush off a clip that you don't like (let alone 11) when it is a band you have been following and loving for years. That's a really hard thing for someone to say "Ah, heck, the album is going to be great even though there is nothing I have heard and liked yet," and it's not very rational to do that.
I agree that it is better to be positive about the album, but remember that the higher you get your hopes up, the longer it is for them to fall if you turn out disappointed. I think I have 2 overall points: (1) Give the people who don't like the clips some support, they love the band too and are, if anything, frustrated by not liking what they have heard thus far (help them keep the faith in the band rather than bashing them and insulting them) and (2) no, there's nothing wrong with getting excited from the clips, but nobody should be fully judging the album by these clips, positive or negative.
(And I hope that we can all enjoy this album/tour in one form or another).

Nah, I was just joking. But I sometimes wish I wasn't bothered by stupid things like that. I had to watch a girl give a power point presentation today and all of the words that ended in "s" in that damn powerpoint had an apostrophe, when absolutely none of them needed one. I see it all the time--at my work we get boxes of garden freight that say "tool's" on them. I thought it might have been just a mistake when I saw it numerous times last year, but when we got the boxes in again this year, they too said "tool's." We also had some "flower's" and some "soil's" in there as well.
Okay, I think we've laughed the poor guy to death, but why not one more time... :lol

Sorry to get off topic here, but the thread-starter is correct, the album is like BTCS in the fact that many of the songs have very different feels to them. from stand up to louisiana bayou to steady as we go, (almost) each song takes on a very unique feel. generally, though, it is a much more upbeat album as has been reported.
