I want some of the songs from stand up to become epic-type songs in a live setting. Some songs from Everyday became decent live, but none really took off with any sort of huge jam. So many Busted Stuff songs aren't even played anymore. I want these Stand Up songs to be played for years, not drop out of the sets after a year or two, and hopefully a few will grow to be huge jams (ie. a two step/LIOG/jimi thing/etc.)

I think we can all live without a 20 minute Digging A Ditch...

I can beat that: a 35 minute STDH ;)

except that it's actually good? :p
i think thats the biggest difference between everyday and stand up. everyday is mostly pop/radio styled songs that dont have a lot of room for complexity and extensions. everything ive heard from stand up sounds like the songs are just filled with spots to stick stuff in. theyre fine for an album, but with the live debut of 2 of the songs last night already having that much extra, i think we've got nothing to worry about. if the songs had both been 3-4 min, i'd be more worried. you know everybody wake up is gonna kick ass live, so does hello again. we havent even heard 3 of the new songs at all, but i'm pretty confident we'll get a bunch of good stuff live from this album.

Anyways, I'm hoping for 2 epics to come from this one...Everybody Wake Up > Out of My Hands could be like a Last Stop > Reprise thing. They say Steady As We Go is epic, so who knows

it seems like these songs are more jam-bandy

Well, after hearing LB, we already know they had jamming in mind when they wrote the song.

That was something I was really worried about. Because they also said the same thing about Everyday, but there isn't much jamming on that album except for the end of So Right, and that isn't really played anymore. I suppose Everyday has the extended outro, too.

I bet Out of my Hands will be used a shitload as the first encore song this year, I see it being like I'll Back You Up, a song best fit for a calm first encore spot.

In the Stand Up album review thread that guy said how great of a song HFTGL is so maybe that could be one

Could What She said be a future monster reprise to end a concert. I know it's not a reprise on the album but damn it sounds like it could be.

What She Said is an intro to American Baby. Can't say I see them all of a sudden making it a reprise live.

IBYU has actually only been played 3 times since 2000, and it was only in the encore once. Previous to that, in 2000 it was in the encore 2 out of 6 times, not played full band in 99, but in 98 it was in the encore tons.

Hopefully you're right, though. There's nothing better than an emotion filled song for the first encore slot.

I agree with what you said here and I also agree that HA is going to beocme a "must hear" at shows. I think LB has the potential to become what you are describing. Would you consider Bartender an epic-type song???

When you get to be in charge of the DMB then you can make them do whatever pleases you. ;) Until then, deal with what they want to do - I'm not saying you have to like it - but respect their musicianship.

as long as it keeps the boys happy and keeps them wanting to put out new material, thats all that I want from Stand UP...a few good love songs and some jams would be nice too tho :D

I keep thinking when I hear these song clips how they have all this space to jam in ... and yet still have a pop-sensibility around them. I share the opinion of alot of people and don't care much for Everyday ... and that's mainly because the songs live are still stuck in "pop" mode (with a few exceptions). I played the clips for a few of my friends who are into some of the poppier side of music and they all loved it, whereas before I couldn't get them to listen to Two Step if my life depended upon it.

Sounds to me like DMB has found a great formula to expand their fanbase and yet keep loyal fans happy.
