This is the only word I can find to describe this album. What does everyone else think?

Def too much voice layers and I'm missing Carter on drums most of the time. but live these songs can only get better.

Too many layers, but I am not complaining. I love the album.

I'm thinking Dave's voice was intentional...

He sounded pretty good at the NOLA festival.

one thing i noticed with batsons hiphop influence is alot of songs have the same musical progression for the verse and chorus, much more common in rap/hiphop. AB,LB,SU,die tryin just to name some off the top of my head.

I think Batson fooled around with Protools a bit too much, but these songs will really come alive live

This album is borderline perfect ... not overproduced at all.
Just my opinion

Energy is all I can say! If anything...too me I've had my speakers cranked this whole time and the album almost feels like being at a concert . The bass just dominates !!!
At the begining of Stand Up and you hear Boyd say "Stand Up Y'All!" and the right afterwards you hear Dave say "Yeah". Dude that was lke being right fucking next to them when they were playing it!!!!

I agree....I like the bass.....just like Carter's kick drum...it dominates. It's different and I like that. The boys shouldn't try to redo one of their previous albums. Dream Girl, and You might Die trying are my favorites so far. Just imagine the things Carter is going to add at the shows this summer.

You definitely need a subwoofer on your computer speakers to appreciate this. I can't wait to hear it on the dvd side of the dual disc. The bass is going to thump!

Just like Metallica's St. Anger, it's overproduced, but will kick ass live.

the album is VERY good....those clips dont represent the song at all!! kickass album and i have a creeping suspicion (stone reference) we may see another album next summer??

Yeah this is way over produced...but other than that...the lyrics are fine...lets see if it will pass judgement in the summer..

I mean..this would turn me off if this was the first DMB album I have ever heard. But fuck im happy they are still making music...Cant complain too much.

It sounds like a veteran band making damn sure they get it all right in the studio as not to disappoint old and new fans alike. It is very well produced.

I think BTCS is a good example of using the studio to produce something that can't be done live. I'm not a fan of using fake effects and drum machines to spruce up something. It's something I can do at home and doesn't take much effort. I'd rather something subtle that you can hardly hear but makes a big difference. That said, I like the album and I'm waiting to turn it up real loud once I get my CD since apparently thats how the album really shines.

sorry, this is totally random, but i like you RH refs and your WWYS stuff :thumbsup

um, now for some content.... i think it's definitely got an overproduced sound, but i dont think it's bad. and i totally agree this stuff is gonna be amazing live. crash and uttad are all produced sounding in their own way too, but look at that stuff

waay too overproduced, some parts sound just unnecessarily busy, and too much backround singing, and electronic sounds, etc..

I understand the shock. I have a hard time with the electronic overflow but at the same time I am very impressed.

Sonically this album is back to where the band used to be. The mixing job done on Busted Stuff was HORRIBLE. Carters drums sounded like they were put in a cardboard box with a single mic put in the corner. The band sounds full and tight again. It sounds so good, and this is from a cruddy vh1 audio stream... the cd will rock! I especially love the piano being in the foreground for a change. Not to mention we have Steady As We Go(? is that right?) which would be, if I'm not mistaken, DMB's first power ballad :lol :lol I can't wait for this album!

Subtlety is key. I chalk it up to Batson's relative inexperience.

i think old dirt hill has too many things going on in the background. i don't like the voice effects that they use on a few songs. other than that, i like the production. i think steady as we go and 55+3 were produced very well.

Say what you will, but this album doesn't even come close to the production of DMB's most overly produced album.... BTCS

But really, people, have you seen all the buttons you can press in these studios??? I know I wouldn't be able to keep from touching them just to see what would happen.

But eventually the novelty wears off and you realize that they all suck and you don't record it for the actual album :)

it is horribly overproduced, the VH1 site says there were going for that "playing on the back porch vibe" i dont know many porches with a mixing board and a gung-ho producer....
