I would say either American Baby or Steady As We Go are the weakest tracks this album has to offer. Thankfully nothing comes close to approaching the terribleness that are Mother Father, Angel, and Everyday.

im with you, but i have 3 tiers after a couple listens. awesome amazing songs joining the ranks of halloween, minarets, last stop, stone, ddtw; songs that i really like cuz they sound so fresh and different, and songs that seem cool cuz i havent heard them much but ill probably like less when i hear them again and again. this is only my initial reaction
anyways, dreamgirl, old dirt hill, the machine gun parts of the intro, and maybe stolen away are sort of on that bottom part. im too inexperiences with the songs to be decisive

Hunger, that song blows.
I disagree completely. I think this song is a great album-ender. It'll only be good live though if Dave gets really into it and makes it raunchy.
I'm surprised people don't like Smooth Rider at all - I think its pretty cool. Same with Old Dirt Hill. People are ripping on the songs that the band stretches themselves most on. Both those songs are really interesting coming from DMB. I think Old Dirt Hill should have been the first single.
Louisiana Bayou is awesome - its like Bob Dylan in a weird alternate reality.
I want to like You Might Die Trying, but the lyrics just make me cringe.
And what's American Baby even doing on this album - its so out of place. The rest (except for Hello Again, which is also out of place) is so chilled out, which is really fantastic considering the lyrical focus of the album.
Overall, this is much much better than I was expecting. Here's hoping they don't play American Baby on all the TV appearances.

i still think stand up the song will be a fun ass song live kind alike too much (yes that version we got sucked) i think it actually has alot of aprts to it and changes up alot to make the stand up's decent. The bridge for some reasons reminds me of old school dmb, an airy sound i dunno we;ll see
as for worst right now, i cant get into old dirt hill and stolen away, too repetitive and nothing special

There's songs on all of DMB's albums like this, with complete opposite opinions.

Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd.
The lyrics are amazing, the music is great, but the actual flow of the vocal melody (or lack there of) makes the song no fun to listen to.
I don't know how anybody could say Smooth Rider (imagine it with a Sugar Will-esque sax/piano jam at the end) or Steady As We Goes, the song with the 2nd most emotion on the album.

the guitar on smooth rider is very similar to sugar will. Which reminds me: why not just leave off Hunger for the Great Light, which has NO redeeming qualities: NO melody, No lyrics, just trash, and stick on joy ride, crazy easy, or sugar will. Or we could just have 13 songs and no one would complain or know the difference. I can understand why all the other songs are there. They all have clear emotional and musical points. Steady As We Go has such an emotional meaning to it, and then we tack on this crap with lines like "Here you go you dirty girl... when I go down on you I want to blow your mind." This song doesn't belong on this album. All the other songs were full attempts at music, but Hunger is just laziness. I guess they were trying to appease Stefan.

I actually think Sugar Will would have been a song that would greatly benefit from Batson's condensation. I thought it was way too long and stagnant but had serious potential.

yeah thats true, when i first heard the smooth rider clip i thought it was so cheesy. I had no doubt it would be the worst on the album. The more i hear it, the cooler/smoother/badass it sounds. But i dont think it could ever get where sugar will was with me.

Wow, ODH is the overwhelming response. Would you all change your answer if the "bring that beat back" voices were different or non existent? Because really, other than that, I can't put ODH as the worst.
Also, I'm kind of suprised that Smooth Rider is being picked. I'm upset that this song isn't LONGER. Its such a great groove..
I think i'd pick Stolen Away as my least favorite. I find it very boring. It doesn't go anywhere or do anything. And its the same verse over and over again.

They're all pretty good, the only one that doesn't sit right with me, is Everybody Wake Up.......The phrasing of the verses and the pacing throws me a bit. But the chorus on the song is really good. I'm surprised how people love Dream Girl after so many people didn't like the clip of it.

I couldn't agree more. I don't think smooth rider is anything spectacular, but it has such a cool groove and a real badass mood to it. I don't know, but i'm not sure i want to see it live, but for the studio, I think its a great little song.
But my least favorite song has to be Stolen Away. Besides the cool sax intro, it just seems extremely boring. Nothing happens what so ever. This is the song that GGT should of replaced if they wanted a extremely repetetive song on the album.
And as for Hunger, it's probably the most rediculous song they've ever written, but I can't help but smile everytime i listen to it. Maybe after a bunch of listens i'll get tired of it, but i'm loving it right now.

Yes but it's the lyric immediately after that that is unexpected and makes it interesting, don't you think? I expected him to say something about his love for her-- not about stealing the wind from the greedy people of Long Island, oops, I mean the world!

Old Dirt Hill is not good, neither is Everybody Wake Up. I think the CD would've been much better w/ sugar will or joyride in those spots. You Old Dirt Hill bashers are just crazy. I read this topic before listening to the CD and it is much more tolerable than Stand Up anyday of the week. The whole "Bring the beat back" thing was totally exaggerated. Would it be better without it? Yeah, but it doesn't really hurt the song that much. From how you guys made it out I thought they were going to be wailing it with a gay pride parade the whole time, but they aren't, and its mainly just in the background and not even that distracting.
Now Stand Up on the other hand... god I've never heard such a repetitive song with no real character from them. Dave should consider spending more than a couple minutes in the studio making lyrics for a some chords made by the rest of the band. I was cringed when I saw him doing that on the new studio album website, and it looks like my fear was rational.
