I'm tired of all these damn threads about things that are wrong with the album. I mean people are ripping into the album left and right. I ant to hear the good things that people have to say about this album. Stop focusing on the negative sh*t. Let's focus on the positive. I mean we are talking about a kick ass band here.

good shit...
im so heated at that other thread, I cant even respect his opinion and thats rare for me...
after a little digging, the thread he created was his first post here in well over a year, further proving my point that there is no place for him at antsmarching.org.
you come out of the woodwork to bash the album and lose all faith in the band, why express it on a fansite that you havent been to in a year and a half? and piss off someone who shoulda just walked away from the keyboard went to bed and waited for the album buzz to go away dragging all the negative people with it

initially, people reacted negatively towards BTCS when it first came out, and look at how people cherish that album, and rightfully so. I really think that this album is going to grow on many people, I for one am a huge fan thus far (with the exception of ODH), Boyd is all over Everybody Wake Up and Louisiana Bayou, I LOVE Steady As We Go, the energy on this album is great IMO

I personally like the album, it is very different, at first listen I only liked a few things, then I listened to the whole thing and started liking it more. I am actually not a fan of dream girl though, Lyrically it just doesnt cut it for me, but so far I am digging on it. Some of these songs live are going to be very funky and upbeat, maybe not the first few performances, but in time they are going to be kick ass and funky, especially Louisiana Bayou, when I heard it at Jazzfest I knew it was gonna be good...

The album in my opinion is stupendous. All great bands are experimental and this album seems to only broaden this idea. The fact that many people are complaining about the transition of studio to live is absurd. Think about it- the band cannot screw up any thing live but only add layers and additions to every song. I hope im not the only one who cannot wait til this summer to hear how amazing these songs will transition. Some people complain about how the album has a "sycronized" feel; who cares; its a studio album. I can listen to the album all the way through and above all else, each song is different. Not one song sounds the same and to me that means alot. It shows how much time and effort they put in each song. And like i said before, the live transition will be amazing. I have said it first... well not officially.. but mark my words.

About the hip hop influence, people should remember that there was nowhere near the hip hop presence in society back in the day as there is now. DMB had alway incorportated other music styles into their own, why this big anti-hip hop sentiment? It is another style being brought in. I say Great!

Every song is different, you can tell they were more laid back with this approach and that Dave didn't kill himself writing the perfect lyrics ;) I like that there is some funk in there and it's very groovy, I can picture almost every song live and how fun it will be. Steady as We Go, Lousiana Bayou and Stolen Away are my favorites.

Bottom line is everyone expected this album to make up for any mistakes DMB may have made in the past, but it doesn't because after 15+ years of music and touring and giving back they have nothing to prove. Take it for what it is, 14 new songs to have fun with.
Oh and Leroi rips it up :thumbsup

/\ most of us even agreed this album was mostly apart a rejuvination and between the uptempo, the jamming etc, it's here, so what the lyrics arn't amazing, but when your rocking out this summer and when live releases come out, then you'll be happy

I personally think its a great album. I'm in love with all the new changes the band has made. Also I'm thanking my lucky stars that all of those who said it was "another Everyday" are atleast 85% wrong. My only complaint is the over-production.
Now on to the Good Good things....
Dreamgirl turned out to be a great song from note one.
I'm in love w/ Dave's piano
I'm in love w/ Dave's raspy voice on some tracks and the use of all the falsetto in others.
I'm in love w/ Stefans writing ablility on Hunger.
I'm in love w/ alot of the lyrics on the album (pig dressed in his finest fine)
I love how this album is like a journey from song one till fourteen. Everysong offers something so new and fresh.
and most of all....I'm in love w/ DAVE MATTHEWS BAND!@
Thanks for puttin' out another CD and continuing to blow me away every summer@@
LONG LIVE DMB
thats all.

I'm 100% into experimenting and exploring musical talents. I'm stoked DMB took a chance, had some fun, and did it. I think the album will do extremely well. I think what upsets a lot of people (myself included) is that this is what we'll have for another two years. I could be wrong... hell, I hope I'm wrong. But when an album is released only once every two years, ideally, that's long enough to cleanly polish every song released. Hunger for the great light has a great bridge, but the overly poppy teen rock is not what I would consider a staple DMB sound. I understand their goal as a band isn't to fall into a "staple" sound, but... in my opinion... and this may piss someone off, so let me say again OPINION, they are above that genre. They are better than that sound. I also think (sorry... this was supposed to be positive... but I'll get to that in a second) that Dave has lost or is losing his lyrical prowess. The lyrics don't impress me as much as they have in the past. That's all I'm saying.
NOW... having said all that, I love the album. I will listen to it and love it and buy a copy for a friend, and I'm still going to multiple shows this summer. The album has not made me lose any respect for the band. But when I get a strong jones for a DMB fix, I won't be popping in "Stand Up".

The Everybody Wake Up end jam is going to rock people's faces off live. Seriously, I can see them taking that to so many awesome levels, with stop-time and solos and, sweet lord, let's not even get started on D&T.

It's ALL NEW...even Hello Again is a new song (though we heard it live)...all these songs are really going to kick ass live; Dave said in that interview on Billboard.com that he sees a lot of room for improve with these songs, and I can totally see it...I would not at all be suprised to see Smooth Rider grow by about 10+ minutes...LA Bayou is going to be one of those songs that when we hear the first few beats live, you know you are about to be shake'n your ass....another good thing is we know that there are even more songs that are new that aren't even on this CD....Joy Ride, Sugar Will, Good Good Time and Trouble With You.....fun times man

2. Stand Up - I can't wait to see the smile on their faces when they play this one.
3. American Baby Intro - Groovy and poignant.
4. Smooth Rider - Dave IS a smooth bastard.
5. Old Dirt Hill - Innocent, beautiful, great guitar riff, and sounds like the band is having fun.
6. Everybody Wake Up - The new Ants / Billies. Awesome. Can't wait for it to close shows.
7. Out of My Hands - The most beautiful recording, along with tLWS Captain, the band has done post 1999.
8. Hello Again - What's not to like? It didn't need a drum solo on the album. The country harmonies are outstanding.
9. Louisiana Bayou - Another fun track with cool lyrics. The "yous" are even better than the "whoos".
10. Stolen Away - A nice simple tune with a killer Roi riff. I like it.
11. You Might Die Trying - Damn, that's what I call a breakdown. Go Boyd!

I am in love with this album...and i think i might have some explanation for the other people who dont like it at all....its just musical preference...i love all kinds of music and when i say it i really mean it...i dont exclude classical, jazz, country, or even polka...everything has something to like about it. I happen to love urban style music, the blues, and alternative rock...this album flourishes in that sense without truly losing the DMB "thing".....
DO i think this album is bad? ABSOLUTELY NOT...DO i think that DMB betrayed alot of their fans on this album? DEFINETELY...but you know what...get over it...they didnt make it for you...as much as it may stain some of your diapers, they wanted to do something they've never done before...and kudos to them for doing that. To deny the awesomeness of this album is ignorance...there is a constant mood on this album without losing the main idea which is (and i capitalize) THE ESSENCE OF LOVE, SEX, PASSION, MELLOWNESS, PASSIVENESS, CURIOSITY, AND GROWTH
...how many bands make an album that pushes and pulls you in so many directions with it's musical styles but never truly loses sight of its main idea?....IF you ask me...DMB are one of the only bands that can pull this off with style and grace...even if it means sacrificing some diehard fans for their own growth....if you ask me...get your heads out of your asses...and EVERYBODY WAKE UP...IF YOUR LIVING WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED :lol
