I think we'll see 4-5 Stand Up songs and then a couple of the new songs from last summer.

They definitely have enough songs in their catalogue now that they shouldn't repeat a song between two nights. I'm hoping for anywhere from 3-5 SU songs a night, with some of the b-sides thrown in there, and then the standard old school stuff as well. I'm sure I'm wrong and the bulk of every show will be SU material, but one can always hope, right?
there will be 6-8 SU songs every night.
im leaning towards 8-9 stand up songs per night...we at least on 6.2.05,

The band said that wrote more tunes than are on the album. As well as Hunger, Steady, Die Trying and Louisiana Bayou, I'd also like to hear some other tunes they created, such as that 6/8 jam that Dave played on a twelve string featured in a few videos. I also hope Crazy-Easy sticks around!!!!!!

I am going to all 3 nights at the Gorge and I hope they dont spread them out so we don't here the same songs every night...
The only one I dont mind hearing 3 times is "Everybody wake up"
That seems like a good live song
But yeah, 20 songs per concert...Around 60 songs...45+ for sure, there going to have to have a bunch of old songs =)
Which is what I was hoping for
I want to hear PIG again, that is my favorite song espesically since I haerd it live at the Gorge last year on September 3rd 2004
WOW
:)

What, you all forgot Too Much as the opener. It's always the opener.
I'd say around 6 Stand Up songs a night, dispersed throughout the entire show. But the singles (AB and DG) would probably be played each night for the first week or two.

I'd say 8-9 is right on. Plus, I'll say AB will be the new WAYG...played almost every single night.

This is a really interesting question. Personally I'd like to hear a lot of new stuff. If they play 6 or 7, I think that would be great. It'll definetely be interesting, though I fear they will leave certain songs off the setlist completely.

They need to leave certain songs off the set list...To be honest I cant see what they can do with these songs at all..This is going to be very interesting...But i know they wont let me down..

Dancing Nancies
Old Dirt Hill
You Might Die Trying

At the end of any of the live tripping billies, Boyd's solo, that part of the song is a jam. So in my words..Jam: Part of the song where the band breaks away from the song, goes into something new, no lyrics, and each memeber showing their skills with sololing

I can already see it.... Steady as we go will be a slow jam when they come out after the encore.
In Hunger for the great light (live) they will skip the very beginning and go right into the guitar riff at the beginning. I think this will be awesome live I think they will play it with alot of energy and Carter will be pounding. this will be a mid-set song

okay buddy, whats your definition of jamming?
okay buddy, whats your definition of jamming?
I would say an unrehearsed and improvisational segment of a show. For example, the band knows the basic chord structure and who is going to solo on Jimi Thing every night. It doesn't change. Jimi Thing chords with a bunch of Boyd stuff, followed by a bunch of Roi stuff, followed by some guitar solo / scatting from Dave. Sure, it's soloing, but it's a completely rehearsed and planned portion of the song, so to me it's not really jamming.
I can remember a Watchtower from Lorely, Germany, where Roi started doing some reeaaaaally fucking funky shit. Then Boyd kind of joined in. Dave stared at them with bug eyes trying to figure out what the fuck was going on. Then he and Carter sort of joined in and went with the flow while Boyd and Roi went crazy. THAT to me is jamming, and it isn't something they do very much anymore.

Dude, like someone has said, you have a Phish avatar. You should understand what jamming is if you listen to Phish. They don't just take solos, they actually branch away from the structure of the song and create new music on the spot. DMB doesn't do this. And that's not a knock on DMB, that just isn't them.

I just said since you appear to like Phish, you should know what jamming is, and you should be able to recognize that DMB doesn't really jam, they just take solos.Jamming doesn't have to be one specific style of playing. Phish for example can have songs that go for 40 minutes, into their real deep jams, thats their personal way of jamming. I feel DMB has their own way of jamming too, just in a different way. I bet you listen to a variety of music, possibly jam bands, and you would know that, each band has their own way of jamming.

Agreed....look back at 2001 setlist...you'll probably see something like taht....around 19-21 songs about 1/3 or 6 or 7 songs from SU.
On two nighters you're looking at an American Baby and Dreamgirl repeat more thatn likely.
Not sure how Hello Again, will be toured since it was at basically every show last year.
Then we'll see what the 'old' staples are for this year....probably Too Much as per usual. Maybe the return of #41, after it's break last year, as a staple. we shall see....but like i said 1/3 of the show will be SU then out of the last 2/3 probably aobut 1/6 BTCS, 1/6 Crash, 1/6 UTTAD, and 1/6 BS.....on average. probably only 1 or 2 ED songs per show. If that. Although i could see a Smooth Rider -> What You are segue happening through out the summer.

erm, i guess this is as good a place to post this as any:
people who aren't liking the new album are constantly referring to the "great" songs from last summer that the band "ditched." am i the only one who wasn't that enthused by these? sugar will was one of the least enjoyable songs i've heard from the band since everyday. in fact, i enjoyed most of everyday over that song. i think it suffers from some of the same faults as some songs on this album, except it was long and dull. joy ride was annoying. hello again wasn't too bad, but i never quite understood why people thought it was the best from the summer. crazy-easy was decent, but could have used some more form. good good time was the only exciting highlight, and i knew from the first time i heard it that it wouldn't be on the next studio album. i don't think the band has put together an utterly fantastic and captivating finished song since you never know.
i guess what i'm saying is that i don't think the band left a new and better direction, but rather they've been building up to this for a while, even if most of those songs weren't included on the album.

come on man, don't give in. there is no set definition of jamming. some people are acting like it is a specific occurence, which defies the improvisational nature of jamming itself. jamming is very very loose. it can be almost anything. yes, they do know when their solos are coming. but do they have their solo completely planned out? do they know how long roi's solo on jimi will last?
if a solo is the same as the album solo every night, that is soloing. are we to lump this type of canned solo in with an improvisational, strategically placed boyd solo? or does it step into the vague realm of jamming?
come on people just because they dont go to the extreme end of improvisation doesnt mean DMB doesnt jam a little.

I'm surprised people are getting all fuckin militant about the definition of "jamming" given it is used colloquially to describe what DMB does. So, maybe that is the problem. We are sparring over the colloquial and literal definitions of jamming. So, maybe in the DMB community a "jam" is something different than it is in the Phish community. Who the fuck gives a shit.
I once dated this girl for like a week who thought that "kissing" was puckering your lips tightly and turning your head back and forth. I didn't puncture her ego by laughing and telling her that what she was doing wasn't literally "kissing", I just told her it wasn't working out and moved on. The same with the girl who was all tongue. I thought she was trying to clean the back of my throat. She thought it was kissing, I thought it was disgusting. But who's to say?
If it makes you feel better, maybe we could define DMB's jazz-solo-style jamming as "jammin" without the "g"...as in, "That Butch solo was jammin".

On another note, I used to jokingly kiss my girlfriend as if I didn't know how sometimes. "What if neither of us knew how to kiss and we were both just fooling each other since we have no current frame of reference? What if we really kiss like total losers?" Ah ... to be 17 again ...

Dictionary.com definition of "jam":
jam1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (jm)
v. jammed, jam·ming, jams
v. tr.
1. To drive or wedge forcibly into a tight position: jammed the cork in the bottle.
2. To activate or apply (a brake) suddenly. Often used with on: jammed the brakes on.
3. To cause (moving parts, for example) to lock into an unworkable position: jammed the typewriter keys.
4.
1. To pack (items, for example) to excess; cram: jammed my clothes into the suitcase.
2. To fill (a container or space) to overflowing: I jammed the suitcase with clothes. Fans jammed the hallway after the concert.
5. To block, congest, or clog: a drain that was jammed by debris.
6. To crush or bruise: jam a finger.
7. Electronics. To interfere with or prevent the clear reception of (broadcast signals) by electronic means.
8. Baseball. To throw an inside pitch to (a batter), especially to prevent the batter from hitting the ball with the thicker part of the bat.
Damn that doesn't solve anything...I don't think we are supposed to solve it. Just another subject society wants us to fight over.

Dude... that setlist is awesome, even without hearing most of the new stuff live. Damn... if the band could get it together to play that... fuck... that'd be worth a $200 ticket!

Stand Up is going to be a sick opener
Ya, quite a malaise if you ask me. It will be a ill version of the Stone, 41, or DDTW. :babe

That is one of the perks about dating an inexperienced girlfriend. She can't compare you to every other guy out there. Girls do that shit. All my female friends always roast some aspect of their boyfriend's kissing around me. I would be foolish to that my girlfriends haven't done the same.

Jamming means getting lost in the music. Period. I don't care what all these textbook definitions of jamming and "taking a solo" and whatever the hell else everyone is saying. If you close your eyes and get lost in the music (either being the player or the listener) you are JAMMING OUT.

will American Baby Intro --> American Baby become the standard way that the song is played live? Similar to how they can't play rapunzel without playing PNP first. because in australia on the setlists it looks like AB was played by itself, but now everyone has heard the intro, so i hope they start playing it everytime the play AB.
