hey.....i made a remix of 'die trying' today using garageband on my mac (not a dance mix or anything, just trying to make it sound more.....dmb). it's around 6:30 in length, and the quality is what is to be expected for the short time and the shitty source signal. i was just wondering if i would be banned/arrested/thrown in jail for posting a link to it here. i know it's a new song, but it's not technically a new song, eh? any help here would be appreicated. let me know, i'd love to know what everyone thinks.
cheers,
kevin

I've been remixing alot of DMB's song lately for fun. This is actually pretty cool.

I'm thinking I will remix ODH without the Carter parts.

hey, thanks for the compliment. i thought the melody in what i guess would be the bridge (if you give.....) was one of the more beautiful moments on the album, and deserved a second time around :) thanks again. i think it sounds more like a dmb song now, and less like a science (of hip-hop) experiment.

I was waiting for someone to make the exteneded club remix of this one..

but actually you did the opposite. You got rid of the cheesy 80's part, and put more lyrics in it. Its actually pretty good. Good Job.

yeah, i had to get rid of that 80's stuff. it's a great rhythm and all, but all alone it sounds AWFUL, like a high school band that is trying wayyyyyy too hard to be 'hip'. glad to let it go.

is there any software (free, preferrably) that Xp can use to mix music?

i was in the middle of listening to the song, reading this, wondering what you were talking about with the 80s references....i get it now

yeah, totally 80's, people have been saying it'd make a great nintendo soundtrack. maybe my next project will have to be re-doing the song with a midi keyboard, lol.

i'm not aware of any music editing software (particularly free) for windows. garageband rocks though, i made this mix in a few hours, and i changed things up quite a bit. then again, i work for apple, so i may be a bit biased ;)

Audacity works for me.

And it's free. I'm sure the more experienced people know of something better.

How would u just take out the drum parts from the song since its all mixed together and u dont have access to each instruments track?

I don't know all the tricks. But I try to find a spot in the song that is just the drums, copy it then duplicate it. I don't know how to seperate the different tracks or if it's even possible.

How can you record this on a XP based OS? I want to do something similar but not get tons of spyware by downloading software.

yeah, you can't seperate the channels. trent reznor (NIN) released his latest single online as a garageband file, so everything was as he made it. VERY sweet, i hope this becomes more commonplace. turns anyone who wants to be into a producer, i think this could be huge in the future. think of the explosion (albiet mostly crap, lol) of creativity on these boards if we all had access to the original files to all of dmb's albums.

Haha I heard a remix of the new NIN single spliced with the "Ghostbusters" theme song, and I must say, it really made a halfway decent tune into a really fun albeit completely laughable song.

I recently mashed Garth Brooks (a ballad-like Garth at that) with Jay Z. It made me laugh, but that's pretty easy.

BTW, I like this song in the first place, but I think this remix is better than the album version. I think the jam is cheesy as well.

that is HILARIOUS. that was my favorite movie growing up, i always wanted to be peter (bill murray), such a great character. that movie was also one of the early adopters of the 'token black guy' casting process. sounds like a sweet mash up, where did you find it?

driveout- thanks a lot, i figure if i fix all the broken songs, maybe they'll hire ME to produce their next album, lol. my favorite part of this remix is the sax i added during the first 'when you give.....you begin to live' section. methinks it helps make it more of a chorus than a bridge.

I dunno, my friend played it for me at his dorm, I didn't ask where he got it. There's a decent chance he got it off CollegeHumor.com but that's just a guess.

pretty good, i'm sure a lot of people are going to have fun with that NIN song.

I really hope you plan on doing this same thing to the real album recording so we have a full quality version of this remix.. I find the original to be one of the best songs on the album.. but this remix blows the original out of the water... I'd burn a copy of the album with this replacing it in a heartbeat..

Good luck & great job!!

I really really like the remix. One of the SU tunes I really really liked was made better without the horrible 80s breakdown and with more jamming. I will probably listen to this from now on over the original version when i go to put SU tunes on the mp3 playa.
Don't know if its possible, but putting an ending on Hello Again would be awesome. Just a suggestion.
Nice job again. Rock on
