It should be noted that I get props for using such an original title! I'll try to keep this short and to the point. There are just a few things I'd like to say after reading the things said about this album. First off, from what I heard, I really enjoy the album. It's nice to see the band go in a new direction. We also have to realize this is a direction the band wanted to go in. This wasn't an Everyday situation where everyone else walked in and was handed charts. This was a group effort.

As far as the new direction, sorry folks but bands change... well the good ones anyway. You don't hear Sting still writing songs like Roxanne and Every Little Thing She Does is Magic. The Beatles didn't keep putting out pop albums like Please Please Me. They progressed to Rubber Soul, Revolver. The writing will be different because the band is in a different place. They're older, wiser, have families.

Lyrically, this probably isn't the strongest album for the band. Then again look at songs like Eight Days A Week, Help!, We Can Work it Out... great songs but you can't get more cliche'd than that. I don't think the lyrics are all that bad. If you really listen to some of the other shit floating around out there on the airwaves, it's not too bad.

Finally, there's the choice aspect. We're getting to hear this album for free BEFORE it's released! What more can you ask for. You still have time to go and cancel your preorder and get your money back. You don't have to go to the store and buy the album. I get so amused when people say "well this is definately not going to be an album that I play very much!" So why buy it then? Because it says DMB? That's dumb. Don't complain that the band isn't putting out the music they way you think they should though. You need to accept they're going to put out the music that they want to (the way they've always done) and if you like it fine, if not, well that's too bad I guess.

In summing it all up... don't expect an UTTAD, I doubt we'll ever see it. I knew people who thought the band sold out and went commercial with Crash. They felt they took it to the extreme with BTCS. They're not going to please everyone. The best they can do is make the music that the band as a whole wants to. Either accept it and buy the album or don't buy the album. Choice factor! Thanks for listening... and you stay classy AM.org!

i think you did a nice job of underlying the point that bands evolve and you as a listener either choose to evolve with it or not. I for one like the album and feel that the more spins I give it, the more I'll fall in love with it.

I'd also like to throw in some props for a well written piece.

Here's my take...maybe DMb isn't cut out to be a studio-styled band...I mean, the Grateful Dead never went huge with the studio thing, not did Phish find any real commercial success...(did they?)

How much do you all listen to the studio stuff anyway? I find myself listening to the live stuff more and more...I think these songs will make a great transition to the stage.

Oh my goodness....You've just said everything that's been on my mind. So I can't really say any more.

For the first time ever, I'm giving out flare twice in one day.
+1 for you. :)

Thanks for all the kind words and the flare! And yes, the title was a play on words of Billy Joel's 'Scenes from an Italian restaurant'... and you didn't ruin anything. I'm just glad I'm not alone in this thinking. The negative attitudes raised by some remind me of a clip I saw of kids being interviewed in 1967 after seeing promo vids for Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane. People couldn't understand why The Beatles got so "weird" and why they cut their hair and grew mustaches. It wasn't mop-toppy Beatles anymore. It was an older, experienced, an album for us (meaning the beatles) attitude that really kind of changed the way music and albums were produced, mixed, recorded and manufactured. I'm not expecting that from Stand Up, but my point is, bands evolve and should be expected to. DMB is in a position to make an music for themselves now, not having to try and "make it" anymore. *sigh* Anyway, i'm tired, I just wanted to say thanks for all the support!
