View Full Version : Your call: Stand Up's best moment

Just wondering what people think the best "moment" on this album is and why... By "moment," I mean note, fill, measure, phrase, verse, song, etc. Pretty open ended.
For me at the moment, it's the extended crescendo in the AB intro. Simple reason: it sounds as if it could be a BTCS segue, the best parts of the best album IMO. Also, I can't wait to see Carter go ape playing this live.
Probably in Out Of My Hands, theres that short breath where Dave whispers "It's outta my" before singing the part "Its out of my hands for now." If you've picked up on that, you'll know what I mean. Great moment.

The drum fill segue from Hello Again to Louisiana Bayou.
So sudden, but really works in a studio setting. Very cool.
Runner up, gotta go with Steady As We Go, the second time the band comes in. Just sounds huge.

One of my favorite lines is from Dreamgirl:
"I was feeling like a creep as I watched you asleep face down in the grass in the park in the middle of a hot afternoon. Your top was untied and I thought how nice it would be to follow the sweat down your spine."
Also, I'm getting married next June and as of now we're planning on having our dance to "Steady As We Go".

Two good calls there - I thought about "Steady as We Go" being a wedding song - I think it would work pretty well but it may be awkward when the tempo picks up at the end.

This album is truly amazing. There are many bright spots but if I had to pick one I'd say Die Trying just rocks me. Great tune, Great album!

yeah, the part of hunger where dave comes in with that first line after the stupid intro. also, in out of my hands where he just whispers "Listen." chills...
ill keep going...the end of the intro to everybody wake up, where the strings start mixing with the electric. i think it sounds pretty cool. im sure half of you think it's "overproduced" but i like the effect...

Louisiana Bayou is leaps and bounds ahead of any other song on the album in my opinion. I also really like Steady As We Go, Hunger for the Great Light, Out of My Hands, and Stolen Away.

For me, I have two. The first one is the ending of Steady As We Go, Carter and Roi, chills down my whole body eveytime, and the other one is, as someone said before, the crescendo in AB intro

I was going to post the same thing, I love how he delivers it strung along in "face down, in the grass, in the park, in the middle, of a hot afternoon."

It's gotta be Steady As We Go for me. That whole song is exactly what I've been trying to say to this girl I've been going out with for a while. Especially the line "I don't say a word, but you know exactly what I mean". And the end gives me chills. I like the album as a whole but that's my stand out. And the AB intro of course like everyone else.

In Out Of My Hands at the 1:10 mark Dave seems to screw up the lyrics by starting to sing "it's out of my..." at the wrong time. The fact that they left this in is brilliant. Perfectly accentuates the emotion by giving the feeling that Dave is struggling for the right words.

The middle of the AB Intro, where the guns and bombs aren't going off, gives me chills.

4:03 in louisiana bayou... dave's vocals edited to sound almost like someone scratching turntables or something. only about 2 seconds long. but great. if you can manage to re-play that over and over, it would make a great re-mix version. haha.

the solo at the end of louisiana bayou is my early listen favorite. i'm sure it'll change on a day to day basis until i get a better overrall feel for the album though.

The jam at the end of Steady As We Go, All of Hunger for the Great Light and the beginning of Die Trying when it is mostly just Dave and his guitar. That Guitar part is the best one on the album i think.

There are SOOOOOOOOOO many amazing moments, especially all the ones you guys have pointed out. I love the vocal intro and the string outro to the album. They are a VERY nice touch. When the album is on repeat, it's nice to hear right after Boyd's last note the vocal intro!

I haven't listened to the entire thing yet, much less thoroughly. But an early favorite for me is the part in Dreamgirl when Dave sings, "and you're my best friend", and Boyd is playing in the background. Just gives me chills.

Steady as We Go definatly. when the band comes in. i had the biggest smile on my face when i heard it for the first time.
another good one is the dark sounding bridge of hello again ("over and over, im gonna see her face"). ive always loved that part from the live recordings and it sounded especially tight and crisp on the album.

songs 7-14 just kick the album up another notch
i'm sick of all these ppl going like if dmb doesnt prove something to me this summer with these tracks im out, your not a true fan if you quit when the band changes, i mean we will still go to a show predominately hear crash, attad, rtt, btcs
my feeling on this album, maybe not the best material since btcs if you really like lilywhite, if i had another lillyshite session i'd puke and be bored, its the best thing to happen to the band since 98 even if its not the best album. The fact that i go through the 14 songs and there is only one i can't stand and maybe 1-2 more i am not feeling yet tells me something.
Highlight 1: its a combo die trying (great guitar riff, awesome outro), into a new sound in steady as we go, awesome live potential there to just lift the crowd up and smack them around after a pretty decent sounding quiet part, and ending with a song that literally rocks out something dmb hasnt put forth before, a rock song, great guitar, awesome vocal delivery, decent bridge, imo funky lyrics. I love it because we go from oldschool dmb in die trying (except for the funky beat thing), to a mixture of oldschool and new school in steady as we go and ending with a bang, god do i hope they play most of these live
highlight 2: hello again- bayou, energy x proven road worthyness + funky oldschool dmb grooving and jamming in bayou= orgasm
highlight number 3: everybody wake up is gonna be special, i hope they jam it out i love that ending. lots of energy, out of my hands gave me chills when i listened to it first time
the other great thing about this album, vairety, up and down energy (but never a lack of energy for too long)

I am one of the few left who is waiting for the CD to arrive on tuesday to give the album a full listen. The only song I have heard as off(other than American Baby) yet is Dream Girl....but the first 10-15 seconds of that song gave me chills...with the high harmony and the guitar coming in
