perhaps i m biased because the week b4 SU leaked i was listening to the beatles' white album on repeat getting my thesis done, but i see a similarity between these 2 albums, fundamentally.

stand up is a group effort (these songs are the least dave driven ever! and the lyrics are a means to segue the music only and i m fine w/ that), you can tell which song was formed around so and so and how during the songs whos style(not instrument) is being played. similarly to the white album u can tell when its a lennon song, a mccartney song, a harrison song, a ringo song. also the variety and lack of coherence between songs makes this less a concept album and more a catalog of various abilities and sounds being demonstrated.

i m glad even towards the end/2nd half of their career dmb is composing songs as a group, not waiting for dave to go on tour w/ tim and write songs to build around........my biggest question from stand up is, why didnt this happen sooner w/ all the talent in this band

what do u think?

anyways.......stage left [fist]

1) you are asking for it when you compare the beatles to dmb
2) the white album was made under incredible division by the beatles. Ringo is not in a few tracks, I believe Lennon isn't in a McCartney track and vice-versa. That album is a band coming apart as opposed to coming together. In fact, Dave going out and recording with Tim would be more white album like than not.
3) Everything goes in 3s. The white album is held back from being the beatles greatest album because they put everything on and mis-produced tracks(the Beatles' producer has said this EXACT SAME THING). I DIG STAND UP however, it does have some mis-produced tracks but the band forgot to put every track on...

But where are the jams?

But where are the jams?

Agreed, to show off their talents fully there needed to be more jams/solos. I think they did a great job with this cd but I don't think we will ever get a cd that fully exposes all 5 members at their best. Yes, BTCS was great but if we ever did get that one cd...DMB would secure it's place in music history.

I can see what you mean. I love Happiness is a Warm Gun for different reasons than I like other Beatles songs in the same way that I like Stand Up for different reasons than I like DMBs other work. :confused Does that make sense?
