You know, I thought Everyday created the first real rift in the fanbase. But that was *nothing* compared to what I'm seeing in this forum. Stand Up's going to become the dividing line. On one side there will be a group of crabby old-timers who are never satisfied, and on the other side... well, there will be everyone else.

orpheus, i think we can all agree that this didn't need a new thread. i know there are supposedly no limits on the new threads we can make, but this one seems particularly redundant. and mantra's absolutely right.

i have a problem labeling someone who doesn't like what the band is doing as "old and crabby" or "young and stupid"... i presonally haven't listened to any of it aside from american baby, but if i don't like it then i don't like it.

The new DMB and thur damn musical shananigans with thur new-fangled studio effects and chants. I remember the old days with road-testin' songs and lettin' dave write most of thur songs. Well, I'll be...and that old cowpoke Carter, where is that old bastard....

Excellent comment......I can't blame them tho.
But does it really matter? I think last year and the year
before the band was SO ON FIRE live. That's what really
matters to me.
I don't even know why people argue so much about the album.
In the end to me at least, it matters how the songs are turned
out live.

wait just a moment -- i think there are as many people flaming those who don't like what they hear. and there are plenty of people who are very reasonable about their opinion whether they like it or not. there are a lot of people who are so in love with this sound that they take out their frustration that people don't agree with them on anyone who is near.

On one side there's the old crabby fans that don't think change for the sake of change is necessary, on the other side there's those who can't seem to get Dave's ballsack off thier chins.

Alright, I let the mood of this place get the best of me. I'm getting out of here now and not coming back, and I encourage others to do the same. I've read a lot of hype & shit, and it's going to take some effort to wring both out of my mind, but that's what I'm aiming for.
I'm sorry for being so harsh and offensive, except to a couple of you guys who have been genuine jackasses.

Well, of course not all n00bs are bad. I just think there are too many of them and they should go back to Nancies, or ufck or wherever else they came from

Too a point your right, I have never seen this many new users, and man do they hold nothing back, New thread after new thread, I have been here for a few years and have never created as many threads as some of these new users. I am not complaining about new users, just new users who beat the same drum with the same shit over and over again, new thread after new thread and they are all about the same shit.

Chill, Dudes! Whether you like the SU tracks or not, you KNOW they're going to sound 400% better live. The addition of these songs (PLUS all those songs, including the ones from last summer, that didn't make it on SU) are going to make for fresh-sounding and exciting shows. REMEMBER, the boys themselve can't go on playing the same old, same old without starting to sound, well, OLD. Playing the new stuff live will give them all kindsa chances to push their jams into new, unexplored territory. What's not to like about THAT?

This could possibly be the best post I've seen since the beginning of the week. And I haven't even listened to the album yet.
For those of you that are hating SU - don't go the shows this summer because you'll obviously hate them with the amount of SU material they'll play. Wait 'til next summer when they may pull out 1-3 SU songs per show along with the rest of their already very kickass song catalog. Sorry you'll have to wait that long to enjoy live DMB.

What difference does it make if you heard them for the first time when they first came out or last week? They may still be new to you.

My original point is that you have a bunch of younger fans that never saw them in 95-96-97-98 when they were putting the amazing albums out, all these newer fans that are bashing this album cry for Bela to guest, cry for the return of BWBF, they are crying for the past only because they werent there to experience it first hand. They have to go back and buy those amazing cd's and listen to them, and then when they hear them and then listen to stand up they get upset because it's not the same style, they want to see Bela guest this summer, but all they have is cd's to relive the moment, not actually be wrapped up in it. I like stand up, I was continuing the early posts that I wrote, then you only saw the one you quoted so thats why you didnt understand what I was getting at.

Man, today is the first time I have been here for awhile and This post seems to sum it up for the state of the board. I have been listening to DMB for almost 13 years and Stand UP is a solid CD in my opinon but you would think the world was coming to an end around here. To each his own but I am Very excited to go to the shows this year, as a 30 year old FAN. Have fun watching these songs grow on stage this year. See ya.
