I just recieved the Stand Up disc this afternoon, and noticed a HUGE difference in audio quality between the actual disc and the 64k streams.
I know this maybe obvious, but I think it was worth noting.
Many 'problems' heard on the 64k streams have been fixed or improved.
1. Carters drumset doesn't sound electronic at all. It sounds very natural, except on LB for some reason.
2. Daves voice quality improved from the 64k streams. The black lung isn't as severe. Sounds much better.
3. A lot of little sounds that add to the music can be heard. (light violin, voices, backup vocals, etc.) Roi's sax is much more audible backing up certain songs; for instance, I had no idea he was playing during the verse in EWU.
4. Obviously, everything is much clearer, and the listening experience is MUCH more enjoyable. Old Dirt Hill is stunningly better with better quality, beleive it or not.

I assumed CD quality was 192k... well whatever... CD quality then. Sorry about that.

:) it's all good. actually 192kbps is just a medium quality lossy mp3. you can rip mp3s up to 320kbps with normal software. if you want to hear something ripped at the highest quality, rip things in WAV or other lossless forms. obviously that takes up a lot more disc space than mp3s, however.

not really. listen to an mp3 recording at 128kbps, and the differences between that and an actual CD are easily audible. don't listen to what windows media player and itunes tell you.

I never said that there weren't differences, all I'm saying is that the term "cd quality" refers to 128 kbps and above. My radio station has introduced me to all of the elements of cd quality (128,192...) and from all of the reading i've done on it in regards to my broadcast, 128k and above is considered cd quality. Whatever though, honestly it doesn't really matter I guess. :)

Ollie - from the size of your rep points, it appears that you "did not do steroids with Jose Canseco." I am looking for some confirmation on this. Did you, or did you not, do steroids with Jose? Thank you.

I will let my reputation (box) speak for itself.

So that's a "no" then? I must say, I'm a little disappointed.

If I'm ever gonna get that high, I can assure you that it will take some help from Jose. But I'll deny everything, because I never like to talk about the past.

I can most definately tell you, Ollie DID indeed do steroids with Jose Canseco, I even saw him inject the needle into his buttocks. You can believe me, because well, I'm in Paris Hilton's sidekick.

No, the bonus disc only comes with the pre-orders from MusicToday...which won't arrive till at earliest of Monday. What everyone bought today was just the audio-cd that small record stores got in stock.

Listening to some 192k tracks now...HUGE difference. The album is that much more alive, and I'm quite impressed with how deep and full this album sounds.

i found it weird that a really bad harmony in dreamgirl seemed to dissapear with the higher quality one, which is nice. but to say the drums don't sound electronic still? pass me some of whatever ur drinking, it must be powerful stuff.

It sounds more echoey to me... on MOST of the songs, it sounds natural.

i got a 192kbps mp3 rip of the cd the other day, and it sounded a lot better. im still waiting for monday for the real cd, also to see if the dvd-audio whatever stuff works and sounds better with 5.1 speakers. more importantly is that bonus disc. ive been waiting a year to hear joy ride with real words.
