I'm not sure if there has been a thread like this on the forum yet, so sorry if I'm repeating something here, but here goes:
Allright, so I've obtained the actual CD from a radio station I work at and have listened to the whole thing about 10 times through now and I would have to say that to me this album seems like it has too much of the same thing... all the songs seem to be a representation of each other and I find myself having trouble picking a true favorite because I can't remember much of one song from the next. I think that's probably because most of these songs don't have enough distinct melodies from Boyd and Roi... so right now I would have to say it's just "ehhh" for me.
However, these songs will definately take on a new life live. I was in Australia for the last 4 concerts and American Baby improved greatly from night to night... it's without a doubt 10 times better then the album version. Also, Hello Again on the album doesnt seem to capture much of the energy that flows from the band to the audience when played live, which we all love. I think once we start hearing these songs in person, we'll start becoming more connected to each of them and much like Everyday, I'll pop the CD in my CD player in a few years and actually enjoy the songs. It'll take time, but I cling to the hope that the live evolution maturation process will happen for most of these songs and we'll all enjoy them. That or they could be "One Tour Wonder Songs" for most, i.e. Angel. I also cant wait for the 4 other studio songs including Joy Ride to come with my pre-ordered copy.
See ya'll on tour...

Just to take one example, I see very few similarities between Dream Girl, Hello Again, Out of My Hands, Hunger for the Great Light, and Louisiana Bayou. Just throwing that out there...

BTW - Here's my Top 3 Songs (besides Hello Again & AB) That Are Going to Translate Best Live:
1 - Hunger For the Great Light
2 - You Might Die Trying
3 - Smooth Rider
Other's opinions?

im just ragging on you, cuz your post wasnt a rant or anything, but...
are you deaf? you sound like one of those people who thinks every dmb song sounds the same. i just dont get it... you're telling me stand up sounds like dream girl, or bayou sounds like out of my hands? i dunno.... it's hard to take your opinions seriously when you can't tell the songs apart. do you get confused which song is halloween, and which is let you down?

Allright let me clarify this statement... They don't all sound the same, that's obvious, I'm just saying I wish there was more Boyd n Roi on the album. I think those two can really make songs differentiate and standout from one another, giving the songs more energy... that's all. We have enough of the keys, guitar, and drums... I was just wishing they would get back to their core roots where the songs sounded like they were more of a collaborative effort... even if each of them provided their own insights to songs with riffs that started the creation of the new songs on the album, we just dont hear enough of the WHOLE band playing together.

You really think so? I guess I just feel they're pushed too far towards the back...
This album almost reminds me of 2 years ago in LA when Roi was puking on the side of the stage and only could play on the first 5 songs. The show started out as one of the best I've been to and when he was unable to play for the last 12 songs or so, the show suffered and lacked like you would not believe.
I don't dislike this album... I do quite enjoy it, but I just think of what could have been and it's sort-of like a big let down to me.

You know some of the best performances of Halloween, not to mention every performance of Granny doesn't have Roi and Boyd either, but we all love those songs...
Just throwing that out there too.

True - I know that most of these songs are going to be great live because studio albums just don't cut it as far as energy & connection between the band goes - What's up with them not including Carter's jam at the end of Hello Again as well???

I actually prefer it this way recorded, I just wish Dave yelled a little bit more.
