A week ago my band recorded some of our tracks in the studio. After finishing up in there, I realized that acoustically, at least compared to the studio, our setup was lacking. So I bought several yards of soundproofing material yesterday to help better the acoustics in my band's practice room. We've already installed it, and it sounds great. Are there any other small things that I could do that might help?
Egg crates, though cliche and tacky, don't hurt. Moving people around in the room can also yield interesting effects.

Egg crates might be an option for us (The soundproofing was expensive!). We moved the drumset to the opposite side of the room when we moved everything back in from recording the demo, and set the floor monitors and speakers up in a more studio style setup. So, we'll see.

I had some horrible acoustics in my 'home studio' so I bought some cheap fabric (2 different kinds) and made some curtains that span 2 walls of the room. It helped tremendously and wasn't too expensive.
I kind of like the look, too.
Also, rugs on the floor help, too.
