Anybody get a-holt of one of these yet?

Are they worth a damn? The market in my little town won't be supporting these for a while.

If anybody cares to post, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

(Is Dave going to tour with it? Or, is he just plugging it in the AB video?)

Thanks

I played one for a few hours at the Guitar Center- didn't like it at all. It's a jack of all trades, master of none. It has several different pickups, as well as options for mixing which you're using. In the end, if you want an acoustic sound, use an acoustic. If you want an electric sound, use an electric. If it's your only gig guitar, that'd be one thing, I suppose, but if you already have a stage electric and a stage acoustic, there's no point, as each will do better individually what this does alone..

I had the opportunity to play one for a while through a Bose PAS (no effects in between) and I will say the acoustic sound was exceptional. I wasn't too crazy about the sound of the guitar through an electric amp though. I would have definitely used this guitar on stage with my old band becaus I played primarily acoustic, but also electric for a couple of songs. I really think that's it's perfect use. If you play 50/50 acoustic electric, I would suggest having two separate guitars.

Neat looking guitar though, and a cool concept. Only time will tell how much people actually go for these guitars...

My guess is the T-5 is a fad and won't be around for more than 5 years. I did not like the sound of the acoustic too much. It sounds like a typical Taylor only its sound was even more thin and brittle. The electric tones sounded decent, but not exceptional. It is a versital guitar, just not for me as I have found with most Taylors.

I bought my T5 about a month ago, and I really enjoy it. I'm primarily an acoustic player, and after replacing the G with a wound string and running it through my Presonus AcoustiQ tube preamp, it sounds just a good as my Tom Anderson Crowdster acoustic. I'm also impressed with the electric tones I get as well.

I think you really have to play the guitar through a full PA system to appreciate what it can offer. I honestly thought the sound was thin when I played it through a guitar amp at GC.

The guitar obviously isn't for everyone. But if you want the capability to play both electric and acoustic tones during a set or even in one song, it's the perfect tool.

I personally didn't like it. I don't care for any taylor though so my opinion is a little biased. I respect Taylor, but Martin all the way

No offense, but why the hell did you post about Martin? It contributed nothing to the discussion at all and only fostered the already overly-prevelant animosity between two groups on this board.

I work for a Taylor dealer, and after getting to play these for the past month they are awesome guitars. IMO the best position for acoustic sounds is the second switch, which uses just the neck pickup. I really dont think they will be a fad, Taylor cant keep up with production right now, they are seriously flying off the shelf. We got our first one in and it sold within a couple hours of having it in the store. It really is a coold guitar, I like it better with acoustic strings though. Try them with the DR Zebra strings, those strings mix acoustic & electric strings, sounds really good with those.
