Yes, he is "just that good," but it just takes practice.

the verses are strummed, but you have to mute the strings not being played with your index finger and thumb... fairly easy to once you get the hang of it.

the way that i play it with the intro i kinda get the beat in my head from listening to it and just play the notes with muting the strings that you dont need to play. but when im strumming in a sense i am playing all the strings. kinda confusing but i hope it helps

This song was a bitch for me forever, then one day I just started playing it right. I have an even tougher since my hands aren't big enough to wrap the thumb around and mute strings while playing it.

All I can say to maybe help you get this down is:
1. Practice it SLOWLY. Get comfortable with the finger movements and muting then speed it up
2. Always keep your hand moving and strumming during the verse. Think fast little strumming constantly.
3. Record yourself playing it, then listen to it. This is what got me there. I realized 1 part was off that was screwing the whole thing up. Once I realized the problem I worked on fixing it and got it down

As redundant as it becomes, you just got to work on this one. It is one of the more complex dave songs you will learn. Once you can play this song, every other Dave song will seem simple. Good luck and PM if you have any other questions.
