Prepare for much bitching....
OK.....please tell me im not the only person that thinks this.
I HATE punk and emo music. Ya know, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Muse, ALkaline Trio, shit like that. I got a friend (two actually) who think every one of those bands are so much better than anything DMB could ever do. Ive given up trying to convince them other wise. I cant stand this image over substance crap. The only reason half of their fans are fans is because of the image. Theyre anti establishment and rebelious and people like that.
I cant believe that people can listen to I, IV, V power chords with the bass just playing eighth notes on the root of each chord and call it music. I cant stand it anymore
Anyone agree.....disagree???

To me. it's not even music.. it's just noise, the same goes to bands like Alexisonfire. If I should shoot anyone in the world and get away with it.. it would be Alexisonfire.

all these bands sound the exact same and when i try explaining it to all my emo friends they say dmb sucks... at least dmb can play music and not talk about how much they hate their parents and want to kill themselves

:lol:lol
Alexisonfire is quite the horrid band...although they wouldn't be so damn bad if they got rid of that screaming guy that has absolutely no purpose in the band but make their music sound like shit. I almost imagine him to be the friend that wanted to hang out at the jam sessions but doesn't play any instruments so he just started screaming...

yes but not in every song like these bands and when he does sing about that its because he prob felt those feelings and didnt just want to say that so he could be a nonconformist

I think The Mars Volta said it best when they said that "emo" is a ridiculous label for a music genre. Most good music stirs up some kind of emotion when you listen to it, and good lyrics often have an emotional dimension to them too. I think on the whole, Dave Matthews as a songwriter is more "emo" than 99% of bands that label themselves as such, because he has actually been through tragedy a lot harsher than splitting up with a girlfriend or having to pay all of his car insurance premium.

ok yeah i get what your saying that people do like bands that are more about image now than actual talent but its because thats whats popular now peopel are just excited that the whole showmanship in concerts and shows that was so big in the eighties is coming back. And talent isnt all based on just how they sound the people that sing those songs like green day and my chemical romance write their songs so they have talent in other ways besides being insanely good at singing.
But like i said i kinda agree with part of what ur saying...like my chemical romance i love them but they never take their foot off the pedal when they play and they make sure their instruments overpower their voices so they sound better. but i still listen to them because i love them

know what is soo funny about that, well I'm gonna tell you:
So I was talking to people and I said rap sucks and country sucks to me. And they go well your Dave whateva band sucks, they have no talent. And I got all bug-eyed and ranted for like 5 minutes. So they concieve my point and then they said wall all there songs sound the same, again rant *how can you tell one rap/country song from another*. Then they said well, yeah, but they still suck. So then I had to ask, have you guys ever listened to DMB. They all looked down at their feet and said either no or once ot twice.
So there you have, people say stupid shit to try to concieve a point.
Also I know someone who said they didn't like John Mayer cause he does too many drugs...he's a hardcore Ozzy Osbourne fan. And what musician doesn't do drugs? *besides me*

My friends are the same way. It drives me crazy, they listen to bands like Alexisonfire, or other equally crappy bands. Then they try and tell me that Dave Matthews sucks, all of the songs are the same. I just shake my head. I can talk until i'm blue in the face but it won't change the fact they can't tell a good note from a brick wall.

Im not hatin on people who like it. If you like it for the music, im hip to that. But I bet that easly 2/3 of those fans are in it for the image. For the anti establishment, hate my parents, hate the governement, anarachy crap. And even if you like the "music", it doesnt give you a right to hate on Dave, like in my situation

Many people i know are into it because of image and i think that is stupid but i guess its just up to them on how they live their life and why they listen to the music they do....but others like myself just love the music and can relate to some of the different things in the songs. But yea they shouldn't give you crap about Dave.

My 0.02 Shillings...it was the OC that is to blame for the influx of "e_ _" music. My lil' sister is a fan of the show and recently purchased the soundtrack which had a number of artists associated with "e_ _". I heard that the only good thing that came out of that show was a "beckisode" where they featured only Beck songs.
Note: Just as President Lincoln did with refusing to recognize the confederate states as a separate entity by deeming them "rebel states", I have chosen to refer the previously mentioned plague as "e_ _" in the hopes that it will never be recognized as a proper genera.

emo has been around alot longer then the oc has been around.......yes emo is becoming more popular but if you haven't noticed all music goes through these waves....look at boy bands, or hair bands.......they were hot shit for awhile then died out......

I'm not a big fan of punk or emo, but my 14 year old son is. I have tried SO many times to get him to appreciate DMB but he just doesn't get it. Doesn't get the fact that DMB is great music, well written, great lyrics. He's very into his own style, and while he knows all DMB and even sings along at times (he grew up hearing it :lol), he doesn't like it.
He is a musician himself and knows music well. It's just his style. I am forced to listen to his music sometimes too and there are a few songs I actually like. But for the most part, nah, I don't like emo & punk.
