Much love to Pearl Jam. I had the 10 tape way before I had any dmb..
Ten is a classic cd... one of the best...
Alive, Porch, Jeremy, even flow... black...

oh man, I love all their cds, and every song, but Binaural comes out on top in my opinion. But the rest come closely behinhd. I just love chilling out to that cd. Lyrics and music are so great, too.

as much i like dmb, i'd take pj over them in a heartbeat. their shows are much more intense, varied....whatever you want to say. just seems like a lot more energy in the band. maybe because they realize the benefit of not touring every year...
just my opinion

Can't believe it took this long for an "Official Pearl Jam Thread".
I just got really into them (enough to buy a cd) about 6 months ago. I bought the 3-3-03 cd and really love it.

Just as an update...Pearl Jam is playing at the Gorge on 9/1 (7pm). There is no opening act, it's an evening with Pearl Jam. This is the first time Pearl Jam has played at the Gorge in 12 years and one of the few U.S. concerts they're playing this year.
There are a limited number of seats available via the 10 Club (the general on-sale date is this Saturday)...and I just ordered 2 tickets. This will be my first PJ show so I couldn't be more excited :D

I can't wait for them to tour. My buddy and I saw 5 shows in 2003 and he is moving to NY (from Chicago) so on their next major tour I expect to hit many midwest and east coast shows! :thumbsup
I know it is a while away, but please post a review after the show. I would love to see them at the Gorge!

I think the album is mostly done, it is supposed to come out in the fall. I am worried though because they haven't toured Europe since 2000 so I am thinking they might head over there first and then do a summer 2006 tour.

ridiculously underrated. such a good album -- it always brings me back to that specific time in my life even though it's been out for almost 10 years... good stuff.
has anyone read Ismael by Daniel Quinn? I know the PJ guys said a lot of No Code was inspired by that book. i read it years ago and can't recall a lot of it, but i remember it being good.

While I'm thinking about it, if anyone has never heard it, find a copy of the 'Masters of War' Dylan cover from the Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert. I just listened to it for the first time in awhile -- it's some powerful stuff. Make sure you start with this one, not a newer one (i.e. Benaroya). This version is just Mike and Ed and is incredible.
If i remember correctly the concert was well before Vs. was released and I've read that a lot of Dylan fans didn't think members of PJ really belonged there (or knew who they were at that point), but walked away saying that MOW was one of the highlights of the show.

The 10c is already out of Gorge tix (early this morning they were already gone). It looks like they only had about 1,000 reserved pairs available, so my seats should be pretty good :D
I dig that there will be no opening band...sounds like there will be an acoustic set to begin the show :thumbsup

Maybe this belongs in the official Ben Harper thread if there is one, but I went to see Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals at the Moore Theater in Seattle last night. Which might just be the best concert I have ever attended. Anyways, on the last song of the third encore, My Own Two Hands, who walks out onstage to join Ben for a few verses???
Yes, you guessed it, Eddie Veddar!
Needless to say the crowd went apeshit. It was definitely a nice surprise and a great way to end an amazing show.

Philadelphia, July 28, 2005 – Electric Factory Concerts is proud to announce that Pearl Jam will perform at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on Monday, October 3rd. Tickets for this show will go on sale Saturday, August 6th at 10am EDT at the EFC & Wachovia box office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at ticketmaster.com, and charge-by-phone via Ticketmaster at (215) 336.2000, (856) 338.9000, (302) 984.2000. Tickets for this show are $48.00 plus applicable building fees and service charges. There is a 4 ticket transaction limit.
Pearl Jam's Philadelphia concert is one of only a handful of U.S. shows the band is scheduled to play this year. Tickets for Pearl Jam's two shows at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City (September 30th & October 1st) went on sale earlier this month and sold out in two minutes.
Pearl Jam was one of the key groups responsible for popularizing alternative music in the early 90's. Hailing from Seattle, the band released foot stomping anthems that made them rock legends overnight. Throughout their recording career, Pearl Jam have sold more than 60 million albums worldwide and established a large and loyal fan base. Pearl Jam fuses the riff-heavy stadium rock of the '70s with the grit and anger of '80s post-punk, without ever neglecting hooks and choruses. Female indie-rockers Sleater-Kinney open the show.
Pearl Jam is Matt Cameron (Drums), Jeff Ament (Bass), Mike McCready (Guitar), Stone Gossard (Guitar), and Eddie Vedder (Vocals/Guitar). The band has shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, The Doors, and The Who and is well known for its energetic, dynamic and varied live performances. In 2000, the band began releasing “official bootlegs” of its live shows in an effort to increase the quality and decrease the price of bootleg CDs; they have sold millions of these official bootlegs to date. Over the past fifteen years, Pearl Jam has released five platinum selling albums and two gold selling studio albums. A much-anticipated new release is due out next year.

Welcome to the
PEARL JAM RUMOR PIT
Bootleg Update - August 24, 2005
Hey Jammers! We hope you're all geared up and ready for the U.S./Canadian shows. We're passing along this exciting news on the 2005 digital bootlegs!
Pearl Jam's Bootleg Program Goes Digital
Beginning September 1
High-Quality, DRM-Free, Digital Recordings Available Just Hours After the
Band's Live Shows at WWW.PEARLJAM.COM
SEATTLE - Beginning with Pearl Jam's sold out concert at the Gorge in George, Washington on September 1, the band will begin releasing high quality digital downloads of their live shows exclusively at www.pearljam.com. The digital downloads will be available for most of the band's 2005 Canadian and US dates just hours after each show has ended; they will include special downloadable artwork and a slideshow specific to each night's show.
Pearl Jam's "digital bootlegs" will be professionally mixed in real-time at each show by Pearl Jam's longtime studio and live engineer, Brett Eliason. Eliason's company, Basecamp Productions, developed the software application that delivers and manages digital downloads. Pearl Jam has opted to encode the digital files at a higher than standard bit rate (192k) in an effort to balance manageable file sizes with very good sound quality. The cost is $9.99 per show.
The "digital bootlegs" are an extension of Pearl Jam's official bootleg CD program which was launched on the band's 2000 world tour; over three million bootlegs have been sold since the program's inception. "The concept for the bootlegs has always been about providing high quality recordings of our shows at an affordable price for the fans who collect them. A lot of the band's fans want to own a copy of the live show they saw in their hometown, or a particularly standout show they hear about from other fans. Making the bootlegs available in digital form is just a natural evolution for the bootleg CD program, and a response to more and more fans turning to the web to buy their music," said the band's manager, Kelly Curtis.
Pearl Jam's "digital bootlegs" are high resolution digital files that will be released without DRM (Digital Rights Management) so that fans can burn them to disc, transfer to them to MP3 players or an iPod, or play them from their hard drives. "The decision to exclude the DRM is unprecedented for a band of this size, but it's consistent with the band's sensibilities," says Tim Bierman, manager of the Pearl Jam Ten Club, which will oversee the digital bootleg program. "We want to make it as hassle-free as possible for someone to listen to a show they've downloaded regardless of what music-playing device they use," Bierman adds.
The technology supporting the "digital bootlegs" is provided by Basecamp Productions (www.basecampproductions.com). Basecamp Productions was founded by long-time Pearl Jam sound engineer Brett Eliason, and his business partner Joshua James. The company combines the expertise of Eliason - who was the technical architect of the Pearl Jam bootleg series from the 2000 and 2003 world tours - with Basecamp Production's proprietary software that delivers and manages digital downloads.
"The mission of Basecamp Productions is to provide artists with the ability to create their own branded online download systems so that they can sell high quality digital files through their websites, rather than re-directing traffic to a 3rd party website, explains Basecamp Productions' co-founder, Brett Eliason. He adds, "The Basecamp system integrates with the artists' existing website, allowing fans to download music direct from the artist."

From Pearl Jam's homepage:
Pearl Jam's Bootleg Program
Goes Digital Beginning September 1
High-Quality, DRM-Free,
Digital Recordings Available Just
Hours After the Band's Live Shows at WWW.PEARLJAM.COM
SEATTLE –Beginning with Pearl Jam's sold out concert at the Gorge in George, Washington on September 1, the band will begin releasing high quality digital downloads of their live shows exclusively at www.pearljam.com.
I am psyched for the show tomorrow, DMB and PJ at the Gorge within two weeks of each other? Doesn't get a whole lot better. I am also going to Tom Petty/Black Crowes on Friday, heading back to Seattle on Saturday for Bumbershoot (John Butler, Citizen Cope, and Trey on sat.) It's my fucking dream weekend.
Anyway, I think we'll hear new stuff from the upcoming album for sure, but I have a feeling they are going to put on a really long crowd-pleaser of a show.Anybody else that is going have any predictions as to what we'll hear? Any surprises?

the thing i love about the gorge is that there isn't any communities any near the damn place that could strike the fear into the venue if show's are too loud/long. the gorge still stands as the best place i've ever seen a show (w/out having been to alpine, deer creek or red rocks...yet).

Will Pearl Jam release CDs of their live shows through their official bootleg program, too, or are the digital bootlegs replacing that?
We are working on a making a limited number of the bootlegs available as CDs for release through the Ten Club after the tour. We may also make some of the most popular shows available at retail. We'll keep you posted on this.

Yeah that is a huge plus of going in the middle of nowhere for a show. I haven't been to alpine, deer creek, or red rocks either (someday) but in my 100% completely biased opinion the Gorge has to be superior

Just got back from PJ @ the Gorge. Best concert I've ever seen. 34 songs! The band went onstage @ 7:13 PM...finished up Baba @ 10:30. Incredible. I still can't get over the setlist. This is the first show that will be available through PJ's digital download service...get it! Signs up all over saying that the concert was filmed so I'm holding out hope for a DVD at some point.
EDIT: Throughout the night Vedder was poking fun at Tom Petty (playing the Gorge Fri/Sat night)...the crowd would chant (based on Eddie's lead): "Hellooooo Tom, Come Down Tom." Over and over again because Eddie said that Tom was staying at a nearby hotel (probably the Inn at the winery) and could hear us. When he played the Petty cover at the beginning of the second encore we all went nuts and sang along. Great moment.

Just a little rave about bootlegs.pearljam.com . . .
9.99 for the songs, about 10 high-quality pics, cd and cover art and I downloaded over 300mb in about 15 minutes on a cable line, not bad at all. I don't know if this will be the ultimate final product to get the shows out to people (they did have a different method for the 03 tour) but it's great so far. Not yet but once the North American tour is over, management has indicated that it's possible that the most popular shows from this tour will have a limited release on CDs (available through the 10 club).

But obviously those rights didn't carry over to the Gorge boot.

being that last kiss was originally done to benefit a cause, i'm sure they had no problem clearing rights... and maybe that's why they can still play it. as far as baba, i'm sure eddie's friendship with pete helps that situation.
good point about won't back down though... maybe they just haven't had time yet to work out the details for this tour. i think i remember reading how phish had the same problems when they were releasing their shows immediately... their tour peeps would have to hop on the phone almost as soon as the first notes of a cover song were being played to figure out how they could clear it for release. or maybe i'm making this all up.

sorry if this site has been mentioned here before but it's good to point out.

I saw the boys in Kitchener on Sunday night, and I can honestly say that it was the best concert I have ever seen by any band....ever!!! I am declaring them the greatest rock band on the planet right now. They have the balls do do a cross Canada tour, stopping in small towns (cities) along the way. They put their heart and soul into everyshow and for that I say Thank you! Thank you Eddie, Mike, Stone, Jeff and Matt!!!! Can't wait for tonihgt (show in Hamilton) and next Monday in T.O.

I have no idea why they do it but the shows flow very well. I attended three recently and they averaged around 2:45 each. And thats music time. No standing around like DMB. The shows are very fast paced and the crowds are much more into it.

Exactly. PJ's been doing 25-30 song shows for YEARS now. See, just by virtue of who formed first (at least known to a mainstream audience sort of way) I've really been a PJ fan longer than a DMB one, and when talking about DMB setlists at first I was always getting confused when people would mention about "the encore" and then "the closer". As in like "the encore" was just one song. It seriously took me a bit to figure out what the hell was going on :p because I've been just so used to all these years PJ shows where they always have TWO SEPARATE ENCORES (sometimes even 3), and each "encore" can have like 4-6 songs in it. So not to rag on DMB of course like they shortchange the audience or anything, but I was never understanding this business of just 1 or 2 songs after the encore break.
I mean, I don't know if it's anything to do with the fact that generally over any particular year's time DMB always seems to do more total shows overall, so it would just wipe them out to always perform 30 song concerts or what...

Alright this is by no means official, but I suppose you could file this for now at least as around a fairly substantiated rumor.
According to theskyiscrape.com, a music store employee came across this notice (attached) of upcoming stuff from Sony/BMG, PJ's new label. It references their long-in-coming new album under the "Coming Soon" heading of May 2006.
FINALLY!!! :multi (let's hope) We've been waiting over 3 years now for the next Pearl Jam album. And how awesome would it be as a diehard fan of both PJ and DMB if DMB's rumored quickie follow up also hit by sometime this summer as well :cool

Seeing them rock out on the Canadian tour was awesome, and older fans even compared it to the early to mid 90's days of PJ. I thought Riot Act was a bit of a let down (save 3 or 4 songs...) and I am very eager to hear the follow-up regardless of it's 'style.'

Well if you're able to see 2 consecutive concerts of theirs, then it's all but a lock that you'll get to experience Ledbetter played. Among the several songs they play for their multiple encores, there's a revolving list of about 5 that are invariably played within a 2 night span: Yelloow Ledbetter, Rockin' In A Free World, Last Kiss and Baba O'Riley, pretty much. You can almost never go more than 2 shows without hearing all of those during the encores (with maybe the outside exception being Last Kiss, but it's still quite frequent)

I disagree. In general DMB shows are still fairly fresh, I believe. Dave obviously doesn't have to play more often during the year than not, he's not being dragged out there, he clearly simply loves to play A LOT. So he'll go out there in front of the crowd whether it's with the full band, just Tim or with the "Friends" backing. Pearl Jam just happens to have a different style. They've been together for roughly the same amount of time now, give or take, they're equally my #1 favorite bands of the last dozen or so years and I respect each's approach to the road and how they manage their time in general. Heck even with music videos I completely understand and respect PJ's view on them as perfectly legitimate. Does that mean I think DMB sells out in some way or something when they've still produced videos over the years? Absolutely not.

Nice find! :thumbsup
Thank you. I usually check that site at least once a week (which, they've also got around a dozen or so shows on torrent over there, including usually the MTV Unplugged performance and the famous Green Habit 10 CD Live Compilation). Yea I keep up with PJ as much as DMB, they're both #1 in my book.

Yeah I used to be around theskyiscrape a bit... I just use it for surfing around now. PJ was recently dismissed to my #2 for DMB this past summer... but as soon as PJs summer tour starts up I think they will be back up top.
First CD i ever owned... PJ - Ten.

Ok so for any fellow fans of Eddie & The Boys who may not be aware of such things...
First, in regards to my post above about Ed's recent appearance on Sirius satellite radio, it was one large interview with surfer Kelly Slater split into two parts, and now here via the magic of YSI are mp3s of those two slices for your DLing and listening pleasure.
Kelly Slater Interviews Eddie Vedder part 1 (approx 60mb):

Kelly Slater Interviews Eddie Vedder part 2 (approx 30mb):

FYI, though I personally haven't really gotten a chance to listen to much of either of these yet, there's been no shortage of fans that thought the content was pretty damn boring with both of them sounding kinda high (with some defenders saying simply "well Slater is a surfer - duh"). I dunno, I find it hard to believe that listening to pretty much anything Eddie has to say would be boring, but we'll see...
Also while I'm at it ULing things I figured I'd throw the following out there as well. Not sure how many other fans have never heard this, I can't even recall right now where I first picked it up. It's an unreleased track that was originally supposed to be on the "Lost Dogs" b-sides double album but then scrapped. It's a spoken word piece by Eddie called "I'm Still Here", he tells this little 5 minute or so story with Mike McCready's haunting guitar in the background, and that's all. The first time I heard it it literally gave me chills it was so beautiful.

And finally there's plenty of new activity going on once again over on http://www.theskyiscrape.com/ They have the official artwork for the newest single "Worldwide Suicide" which will go on sale apparently as a DL on March 8th, but physically in stores March 14th, I guess that's what they're saying there (you'll see). Depending on your local rock station, you may've already heard either a short clip of the song (which is currently available for DL on the site) or in fact the whole thing. And said artwork seems to pretty much confirm (if it wasn't already) that the full album sees the light of day on May 2nd. There's also another bit of fun there as they're gearing up for the newest "march madness" version of fan voting for favorite PJ song. All the choices are broken down by seeds/brackets just like the basketball tourney, you'll see when you go there.
Enjoy! :)

Well, PJ did play the Gorge this year only within about 10 days of the time DMB did. That close enough for ya? ;) :D

Thanks for posting these.
Slater is an awful interviewer and I think whoever said they were both stoned was right. I'm a huge PJ fan but that was pretty pointless.

Too bad about this quote...
"A couple of rock songs, a couple of ballads -- it's not rocket science," says Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard about the new disc. But his hopes are high: "It feels like a new opportunity for us. We're proud of the songs, and we think they have a chance to do a little better commercially."
Maybe Im reading too much into it, but it seems like Gossard is saying "We followed the formula and hope to have a success on the radio"
And Im saying formula's + radio = bad.
