Me and my buddy are going to do a few Jack Johnson and DMB tunes in between a few acts at a show a bunch of our friends are doing and I was trying to think of which tunes to exactly do. He is a great guitarist and I'll be doing the percussion (djembe, bongos, harmonica, other toys of that nature) and I am trying to pick some songs that people normally don't do when you hear a DMB cover. I really wanted to try to do a SMTS->ASTB->Some other song. I was listening to ASTB alot and I think it might be done with some clever guitar work by my friend and some good harmonica.

Has anyone had luck doing not so usual DMB tunes with different instruments? Frankly I'm excited to try these out because I am not a fan of doing covers and trying to make them sound exactly like the original. I always like to put my own brand on something.

my advice is just mess around. I think throwing in unusual DMB songs on unusual instruments sounds awesome! By the way, if your playing ASTB, I always throw in crazy riffs, and change up the Time Sig. and throw in mass multitudes of triplets. Triplets really sound good with some clever muscicianship. but thats my advice. And I try to play ASTB in 6/8, and switch back to 4/4, it gives it a personal touch.

me and my friend do a sick ants marching with just acoustic, vocals and me on djembe. We did it for my english class and everyone loved it.

Warehouse translates to keyboard really, really sickly. Try it. You'll like it like Mikey loves Life cereal.
