You really need to go into a guitar store and take a look around. I currently play an acoustic/electric Fender cutaway. It sounds great! It basically comes down to you actually going to the store and finding the one guitar feels most comfortable to you.

Definitely go and try different guitars out. I don't play, but I worked in a guitar shop for years. Try as many as possible. Get one that fits your body type AND your hands. Make sure you get a case (especially if you're in a humid/wet environment) The humidity kills the neck and will cause it to bend over time. Make sure to discuss things like string gague and what different beginner guitars can offer.
Good luck and I hope you can find the perfect one.

ive seen way too many people only learn how to play "dave" songs becasue its the thing to do. its like going into a guitar store and seeing people play satellite and act like a hardass
Threads with more than 500 permutations make my soul hurt.

i have had an acoustic for over a year now and have decided to put it to use.
Should i get lessons to start, or just learn myself?

Depends on how long you want the process to be and how much money you have :) Wanna learn faster? Take lessons.
Don't have the cash? Try to teach yourself.
Be patient. Don't get discouraged. Neither way is easy, but at least you get a bit of guidance on the first option.
