I just got Drums!!!!

Okay, so I just got a drum kit put in my bedroom because one of my friends doesn't have room for it where he lives. The problem is I really want to learn to play them, but don't know where to start. Any hints or fingers to point me in the right direction??? Thanks.

Well in my opinion u have one of two choices.

A. If you really want to do it the right way then u need to start by learning the basic rudiments of drumming. This will entail only using the snare drum. Go to a local music store and pick up a beginners book. That will help. This is will be a good foundation for anything else u choose to do. (I.E. you'll learn that one of Carter's favorite rudiments is the flam)

B. If you're only interested in getting behind the kit and learning a dave song or two then just sit down and get your feet and hands coordinated. Start w/ just kick and snare, playing a straight 4/4 beat. Boom tat boom tat boom tat boom tat. Then eventually add a hi-hat in there on every down beat. Once you get coordinated enough you can start to colorize the music. Add another kick in there. Boom tat boomboom tat Boom tat boomboom tat. Take it slow and good luck.
