Granted I haven't gotten to watch the full segment yet, but I kinda feel bad for JD in particular with all the heat he takes about having "too high standards". It's not about not accepting a girl who is only super hot or anything, I'm much like this myself, it's just a matter of who you're attracted to, I mean you can't help that. It's hardwired into your brain from birth, you're attracted to who you're attracted to. I know I wouldn't want to go out with a girl I feel next to nothing for, just for the sake of being out on a date, the alternative being home alone.

I doubt there are many HTV subscribers.
Well and their "original series", Howard so often talks them up like they're the greatest things in creation, and really, not so much. That Bowling Beauties thing was a joke, and this Bonus Show, the couple I've watched, it's like they take these random couple of clips and throw them together (along with incredibly unfunny banter for Jon Hein and Rachel Fine) and make a show out of it just to have an excuse to say they've produced another original series.

remember the show that the guy from the Simpsons created for Howard on the radio? Forget the guy's name, but the idea was creative, but I thought that episode they did was very boring. Beth even had a role.

I get what you're saying but at the same time he thought he had a chance with that hooker chick for some reason, and I think that kind of mindset is what bothers me. As for the speed dating he didn't have much of a shot with the chick he picked, so I guess what I figured he should have done is just go out on a date with funbags, who had a nice rack, she was digging him. JD is in a tough spot though, and he gets a lot of crap for it, but if anything the girls he picks he kind of sets himself up for disaster. He gets more nervous than normal around them and just comes off like a baffling idiot to me, which is great for the show. I guess, what I am saying is practice on the chicks you can get and work your way up.

But that's completely different. For one thing I'm just talking about the Howard TV end of things, so the video original series. What you're referring to is the "The Bitter Half" segment, Sam Simon is the Simpsons guy who wrote it, it was a radio segment and just a special one-off starring only the spouses/girlfriends of the main crew (though Gilbert voiced Mr X).

No, I agree with you completely Junior, and the point of my post was that they created that one show "Bitter Half" and talked of more of those episodes would be forthcoming, and they never did. It's like they do a bunch of pilot shows and try them out and if they don't have legs, they quit on them.
Having said that, has anyone seen the Channel 9 shows? I remember them in the 90s on a local UHF channel and thought they were funny.

Oh that's right, there WAS supposed to be more of them, wasn't there.
I occasionally caught the channel 9 show, I remember one sketch in particular had me in tears, though I can't recall that many specifics. It was some type of game show they were doing, Kenneth Keith was one of the contestants, and Howard as the host had this ridiculously high afro (ala Kid'n'Play, though much longer) with a baseball hat on top.

You're right, show has been pretty blah lately. Still love it and listen to the whole show everyday, but the show is not as good when Howard feels the need to act like a little bitch. I hate to say it, but show would be 1000X better if he would just get rid of that golddigging BethO.

Show has been terrible since Artie left, bottom line. Howard and Robin are not funny when they are alone. Tracy Morgan, Jim Breuer and Adam Corolla were the best things on the show as of late and go figure, they are all guys who are looked at as the "Artie" roll. I've been finding myself turning on my iPod more and more on my commute to work. If it wasn't for Fred I don't know if I could listen at all. Some of his timing with those soundbytes is hilarious. And the Tradio calls of course.

I disagree, don't get me wrong I love Artie and I do miss him. But Howard is the draw for me and I can never get enough of him. I don't mind Robin, sometimes she pisses me off, but that's what she does. Fred is awesome to me and right now my favorite new person is Little Lupe.

I don't think it is terrible by any means. I will always love Howard and what he does on the air. But I have been listening for a long time, since probably the mid-90's, and the years with Artie were the best years of Howard radio. I love the guy.

Mentioned Artie today...this doesn't sound good:
The caller also asked Howard if he retired and the show was about to end, does he think that Artie would come back to make a visit. Howard said he doesn't know about that. The guy wanted an over/under odds on that. Howard said he's not even sure how Artie is doing now. The caller said they could skip that.
My take - Howard really does know what is going on, but the family is trying to protect him and asked Howard to not mention anything on the air about him, and Howard doesn't even want to say that the family asked him to to say it. Howard seemed so off guard by the mention of Artie. weird.

speaking of Tracy and I can't believe I forgot this. So in addition to seeing Jewel on HTV, I saw the bitch Tracy and JD hosting a show and they were (she was) blasting Scott the Engineer. I guess they had their own radio show at one point. Bitch or not, this was one of the funnier Howard segments of the year and if you have HTV, seek it out. Tracy can cut a promo better than 90 percent of the WWE wrestlers out there today. She ripped into Scott the engineer and his incompetence with such finese that's it's utterly hysterical. Just Gilbert Gotfried-funny stuff. Scott eventually calls into the show and the exchange of barbs is classic stuff. I'd love to see Artie and Tracy go to blows during a roast or something.
By the way, I saw an old Artie clip on HTV and after the show, they do that stupid feature where they interview the guest in the hall. They were interviewing Artie after the segment in the hall and he was going into the bathroom by the studio and you can clearly see one of those scales that you see in a doctor's office in the bathroom by the studio. It must be what they use for a prop on the show.

Speaking of Artie, I would highly recommend "The Complete Artie Lange Addiction Saga"...I think I posted this already, but it is on all the torrent websites. I just finished part 1. It is a 6 part special put together by a fan with every Artie break down/call out sick/return/etc...It also includes commentary between each segment. It is better than any Sirius special I have heard, and is a must listen to for a Stern fan and especially an Artie fan. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=complete+artie+lange+addiction+saga&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=C0roWsq02TM-OOY7IigOr_NWbAQAAAKoEBU_QDaUF&cad=h

I will say this: If Howard does end the show, that last week he'll have a bunch of older players on, including Artie. It might just be an hour, it might be just a segment, but that last week I'll be a silver dollar Artie will be on in some capacity. Same for Sulu, Billy West, Jackie, Stamos and other fixtures. Similar to the last day at KROCK.

do you think technology will get better so that if you drive under trees, you can still get Sirius? Or better yet, there is one universal station that you put your FM dial on (say 92.3FM for instance) and no matter what town or city you're in, you'll get clear reception? I live in Mass, use a station in Mass, it'll cut in and out sometimes, but then I'll drive 2 hours from my house to go to NH and get crystal clear reception. No lie. That just recently happened, actually.

Did any of you guys listen to the third Celebrity Superfan Roundtable that took place in May? (where Gary even joined in after awhile)
I've had the video DL'd for awhile but finally checked out a little last night, I'm just stunned by either how clueless they are, or how much of total ass kissers. Because they started off the show by pretty much all agreeing that the show as it's been lately is the greatest it's EVER been.
I mean is there a single person here who comes anywhere even close to agreeing with that? Granted the show's not "bad", but it's significantly off from its best days. My jaw just dropped when I watched them saying this.

Jillian Grace = Chick discovered for playboy on the Stern show and got knocked up by David Spade.
Jillian Barberie = Former Fox nfl countdown weather chick and obsessed stern fan

Are you confusing Jillian's?
Jillian Grace = Chick discovered for playboy on the Stern show and got knocked up by David Spade.
Jillian Barberie = Former Fox nfl countdown weather chick and obsessed stern fan
********************
In regards to their comments about how good the show is.
I don't know when that round table took place but I think there have been several Sirius moments that far exceed anything done on dinosaur radio.
d'oh!! :lol yes I meant Jillian Barberie, whoops. I noticed something was funky with her face immediately, before the camera even went in on a closeup of her. I'm assuming it's botox because she has this expressionless sort of look the whole time.
The roundtable, well like I said it took place in May. I mean yea obviously there have been lots of great moments on Sirius, but they're saying right now (or certainly in May) that overall the show is at its peak, and that's just insane to me. I have very little doubt that Howard won't resign and he's become fairly lazy in the home stretch here. Plus Robin's as much of an annoying cunt as she's ever been (and yea sometimes that can be great for the show, but plenty of times not).
jackisback24

I can't believe Robin doesn't know anything about the status of the future of the show.
Oh, and for you with HTV if you can find the clip of Artie Lange asleep on a bed and then he rolls off the bed onto the floor in the midst of Jon Hein giving his updates, it's worth going out of your way to see. Funny shiznit right there. It's like Buddy Hackett. Hackett was funny when he was out of control.

Adler was great. I loved watching him on Celebrity Rehab and Sober House. It just seemed like a big discussion about how many chicks he banged and with who. When they weren't talking about that, he was hilarious.

Sweet, let us know if you find out absolutely anything. PM if you must :)
Downloaded and listened to about 2/3s and it is awesome! So tough to hear this all in one sitting but it is very telling. HIGHLY suggest for any Artie/Howard fan.

Unless I have the original wording of the bet incorrect, I don't understand how it's a push between Ralph and Depace, he wins that. As much as I hate Depace, it's hard to say this, but I hate Ralph even more, so :p
But seriously it was "I'll beat you by at least 10 points", and Depace beat him by exactly 10 points, 122-112, so that falls under the umbrella of that statement. Depace wins the bet. I mean it's not like the rules of blackjack apply here, yea if you and the dealer both have 21, it's a push, but that's not at all what this is.
And I was ultimately not all that surprised with Richard either. See, Sal's just a straight up moron with no basic knowledge of anything. Richard I've always gotten the impression is deep down reasonably smart (certainly no idiot) but just the manner in which he lives his everyday life of being so disgusting in so many ways, you lose that notion about it. He willingly disregards basic things (like bathing, etc) because he's an idiot in that particular context, but not in basic intelligence.

Only one hour left on the Artie Lange Addiction Saga. Wow, I'm pretty much in tears. I feel so bad for the guy. A few observations.
Last week of December before vacation - Howard clearly states that Artie was not sick, he was asked to take some time off by management. He was going to meet with Tim. Howard really sounds like he was reflecting on on Artie's 9 year career, kind of like he already left the show. Howard also says that Artie did not look good in the studio. Robin says that his eyes were dialated. My thought is that Sirius told him to get help or else he was not allowed back to the show.
So Artie went through his depression phase, went back on H, and it got really bad to the point where Sirius could not allow him into work anymore unless he went to rehab. Right before the show was ready to come back from vacation, Artie realized that he was not going to be allowed to return because he never got the help, so he did a bunch more heroin. He was so depressed about everything, especially his job, that he decided to attempt suicide. Artie's mom found him. Howard feels an insane amount of guilt. The family asks Howard to keep it off the air, but he has to respond once the news breaks of the stabbing. Some people in Artie's life blame Howard and the show for Artie's problems. Artie's family will not allow Artie to be associated with the show anymore.
Howard felt so much guilt at first, then so much anger at Artie for putting him through the guilt, that he now decides he will act like Artie was never on the show.
Where it goes from here is anyones guess. If Artie ever gets better, I can see him finishing his 2nd book. I think, for the good of the show, if Howard re-signs, he would have Artie in as a guest only, never as a regular. Howard will never risk Artie falling off the wagon once again.
I, like everyone, hope he is doing better. The addiction saga is a must listen. Get better soon Art, we miss you!

Yeah it was some good stuff to listen to.
I am not sure that Cabby knew what exactly he was talking about. You still have to pay taxes in an LLC, you don't pay them upfront like on a normal paycheck but you do have to file quarterly tax returns. But I am not exactly sure how it works if he set up his LLC in a tax exempt state, which he may have.

The only way I see that happening is Sirius seriously scaling back his salary. To take a whole summer off is a bit ridiculous imo. Quite frankly, I still don't get the whole "he gets Fridays off but he's earned it" bullshit. Originally that was just going to be in the summers when Sirius first started and then became a permanent thing. It's BS.

You gotta figure if he was coming back he'd announce it already so that Sirius could advertise and begin their Xmas push (well too early for that but at least announce a deal and then begin to push sales in the fall).

I hope not. It's going to get to the point where I'll just my buddy d/l the TV show and that'll be it, except for posted snippets on youtube. I agree with Honky in that I like having the show in my every day life, as it's topical and usually funny, but it's one thing to go down from 5 days a week on free radio to 4 days a week on pay radio. Now to have a watered down version of that on an app forum, minus no Artie and the guests are few and far between, I dunno, I might be ready to say goodbye. Been listening since college a long time ago, but unless it's a cheaper service and can get the show on a frequent basis (maybe 3 or 4 days a week, not once or twice) then I don't know if an app service is worth it. The reason why you might be right is he'll brainstorm an idea on the air and drop it, like he mentioned Bubba the Love Sponge in endearing terms on KROQ long before he announced the deal on Sirius, but he never talked about it for a while. I guess time will tell.

It is starting to become obvious that Howard and Artie have some kind of major riff between them. I mean I can understand Howard not talking about the situation because the family asked him not to, but why must Howard totally ignore that Artie was ever a part of the show??

Yup...Artie pissed that Sirius/Howard asked him to go get help in December and not to return until he gets the help he needs, and Howard pissed at Artie for making him feel guilty about the suicide attempt (opinion).

I used to think this way too, not that I thought they had a riff, but thought it was weird that Howard wouldn't ask how the guy's doing and so forth. But I have to say, I recently watched the whole episode of HTV when Artie came back to the show after the fight with Teddy and they were off for 11 days and it was a riveting interview. Howard revealed a lot that day on not knowing what to do, should he even mention Artie's name on the air because he thought Artie might be set-off at the mere mention of something, so you could see he was being ultrasituation to Artie's mental condition, and Artie on-air thanked him for that (it was 11 days after the big fight and Artie went to Amsterdam). But for Artie fans, it's worth going out of your way and watching the dynamic between the 2 because Artie goes into the shit that Dana put up with when he was on drugs, the co-dependency wih Stacy, the mother and Artie (they showed a photo of Stacy during the mention and she is hot, by the way) and it really is compelling to watch and listen to, especially with everything that has happened.
hbktonyb
08-18-2010, 02:33 PM
^Yup, all of that was on the Complete Artie Lange Addiction Saga...I think Artie's sister and mother have a lot to do with the reason we haven't heard anything from him in 8+ months. Artie feels guilty that his mother found him like that, so he will listen to anything the woman has to say. The family sort of blames Howard and the show for using Artie's crazy issues as a bit on the show...

I pray that this Jim Breuer in the studio thing happens more often than not. He's my top choice to get the Artie chair and I think him being a ridiculous impressionist will bring a whole new dimension back to the show that they haven't had since Billy West. FINALLY, something to listen to again!

Artie mentions on the show today:
The caller also asked if Artie is ever going to come back. Howard said he really doesn't know. He said he wishes him the best though. He said they all love him.
She said that she wondered if they feel bad about not intervening in Artie's downfall. Gary said he's not sure what she means by intervening. He said they did let people know what was going on with him. He said they weren't ignoring what was going on. There were a lot of people talking to him and people around him. Lilly asked if anyone has guilt. Jon said he feels bad about what happened and what Artie has gone through. He said he doesn't think that Artie wanted him to reach out to him. He said there's not much you can do when they don't want help. Jon said he misses Artie too.
Gary said he went out to a Yankee game with Artie and a couple of there guys. He said he had like 50 Jack Daniels shots before the 4th inning. Gary said he wanted to talk to Artie about something there and he brought up something that had happened on the shoe and Artie wanted to throw him out of the car. He said that he really didn't want to talk about that stuff outside of the show. Gary said he feels bad too but doesn't have any guilt

Just on the general principle of it, I can kinda see what Howard was saying about the whole business of the writing of the foreword for Greg Fitzsimmons' book, particularly with how much on the "outside of the family" that GF is, so to speak, but really, listening to how much Howard was going ooooooon and on about how much it was bothering him, when you consider how overall the ridiculously insulated and charmed life that he's got at this point, it kinda made me wanna smack him.
It's like, he's less relateable to the audience as he's ever been, I think.

Oh I totally agree, I mean hell it would be more fitting for him to do that than even having done Artie's. In fact the more I think of Fitzsimmons asking, it's kinda ridiculous, their connection really isn't that strong, like that's much more obviously a ploy just to boost sales.
But yea, still, you're like just about literally a prince at this point Howard, just shut the fuck up complaining about that shit :p

I agree totally. He just came off like a real ass for just writing a forward. The guy is a friend of the show and they appeared to have an understanding. Stern can be a douchebag at times. I remember when he talked down to David Faustino and Kevin Smith before like they weren't good enough guests to have on after having them on before and them being friends of the show. It's not that I straight up blame Howard and say he deserves guilt for the Artie mess, but I don't think anyone can deny that there was a stretch that Howard was ultimately having the show's best interests at heart and that was at least partially in conflict with Artie's true best interests, encouraging the spiraling down behavior like falling asleep in the middle of the show and things like that because it was able to be made funny for how ridiculous it was.

Yeah I live right down the block from Artie's "old" apartment, according to people who live over there, he hasn't been back to that apartment all year. He probably doesn't want to go back because that is where he tried to committ suicide. Weird thing is that it is a tall building, right on the Hudson with a beautiful view of the city. He could have easily jumped if he absolutely wanted to go.
Also see Jason K all the time.

It is amazing how the "Best of Howard on Sirius" special seemed to really be the "Best of Artie" special.. Even the Baba Booey pitch is heavy with Artie banter.

Great Artie line "I wish I would have played catch with Gary, because I would have told him not to throw the first pitch. I can't teach him to pitch but I can teach him to call out sick" :lol

This is great to listen to again.
And I always loved Artie. I don't care if he never performs again I just hope he finds some happiness.

Man, that Teddy thing was hard to listen to near the end. I felt so bad for Artie. He really is the nicest guy I've ever met. He doesn't mean to say half the shit he says or do half the shit he does. He's got problems and I really hope he's getting better. I really never liked Teddy at all, he was a douche to me. I dunno what went on with all of the money stuff, but I do know that the way Teddy acted towards Artie and about his job in general, Artie had every right to yell at him.
Yeah, I listened to it today and Teddy seems like a tard with the money stuff and hounding him for a raise and stuff. Leaving the passport stuff in the machine--come on.
But Howard did prod a bit to get the segment going as far as he could. I don't think he thought Artie would attack, but if this was Stern from 1992 I wonder if he'd be the "voice of reason."

My buddy and I agreed after watching that episode that Bubba was pretty much a buzzkill and came across as a douchebag overall. He knows some wrestling terms, sure, but the Sheik was being funny and that jackass Bubba the Lame Sponge just came across as a jackass.
I've never been able to stand Bubba. He's not the least bit funny, and he thinks he's like this more "average guy" version of Howard with how dirty he gets and stuff. I've just always found him annoying.

Howard to Denise "I heard Charlie Sheen gives you $52K a month in child support, is that true?"
Denise "Yes"
Artie immitating Denise's talk to her kids "Children, I have another diamond pizza to serve you" :lol

The Dave Lambert bit is nothing short of gold. It's crazy how close it was to not happening because Howard was getting impatient.

I finally finished the Addiction Saga. The last chapter is a tough listen. Howard being speechless about announcing Artie attempting suicide, the general uneasiness from everyone, and especially Lisa G breaking down in studio were hard to listen to.

I couldn't listen to the Teddy fight over the weekend. But the way they played Artie stuff, you'd think that he was returning to the show today with the buildup of his best stuff.

I can't believe the whole morning went by yesterday and nobody posted about Seinfeld. I usually check this thread in the morning to see if something happened, as I only have the one radio in the car, and when noon came by and no one posted anything, I just thought it was "just another typical" show.
Good thing I had the show on when I went out to do errands. I put on the Wrap-Up show and when I heard Jon Hein say stuff about the Seinfeld call in, I pulled over. I then put it on 100 and they were building it up with Gary's mystery call.
I thought it was very cool in the sense I wanted to see how it would go, but I don't know, there wasn't anything "magical" about the interview. It was very cool that he called in and one of the better interviews of the year, mainly because everyone wanted to see what would happen, but Howard played it off like they talk all the time and it wasn't that big a deal. When Clooney came on the show, they played it up very big, but that probably was because it wasn't over the phone.
Howard also kinda revealed that he thinks he'll be w/Sirius when Jerry asked, but on a more limited basis, so one of the above posters was most likely correct with that assertion.

I am so goddamn sick of Robin lecturing everyone on what to eat and what not to eat. It's getting so damn old.

Robin is such a dummy too. I realize when you're on live radio you are bound to say something stupid every now and then, but she goes beyond. Does she even glance at her news before she reads it. How often does Howard ask her a follow up on a new story and not only does she not know the answer, but she can barely follow the question because bother to try and comprehend what she was reading?
Listen during the Sylvester Stallone interview. Sly adresses her at one point and I don't think she was there. About 30 seconds later she pops on with a totally inappropriate interjection and then joins in the conversation like she had been doing that the whole time.
Sometimes I can't believe I have listened religiously this long to a radio show that she is a major part of. I must really love Howard.

that's why watching the TV show is cool because you can see, for instance, she getting papers together and not near the mic when Howard is talking. But yeah, she does screw up once in a while. "Brett Favor."

Shit, if they aren't going to fill the Artie chair with someone, they might as well fill it with Shuli. Whenever he's in studio I find myself laughing. He's really quick on his feet too, which is what you need in that chair. I know Howard said it once on the air, but I wish he'd follow through. SHULI FOR THE ARTIE CHAIR!
