I just caught a news story about this, just in a small part talking about the press conference it mentions Benjy's name as causing a stir. ugh... okay first of all I easily can't stand Benjy more so than any other single person associated with the show (I think even more than Ralph) and this is one of the general things I hate about the HS show. Just this whole concept of going to a public event like this, particular some type of news press conference, and basically being a heckler, it literally couldn't be less funny. No matter who was doing it, it's not even about Benjy, specifically. It's just so hackneyed and lame to do shit like this.

Wow.....respectfully disagree. Not that I know with any certainty but I'm pretty sure we'd be amazed with how many of Howard's oneliners are Benji's. I fucking love the guy.

And what is Artie Lange doing these days? I mean, he was caught on the street months ago with some comedians, but is he doing anything?

Howard hates John for posting on facebook "Don't drink the kool-aid". I doubt he'll return.

No one has seen or heard from Artie. Gary said the last time he talked to him was December. So weird, miss the guy.

Yes, yes you would.

I feel like you can always tell the Benji lines. Howard does a little pause to read the note and puts it in his words. I think it is weird how he has Benji hand-write them. Why don't just use a chat service??

Passing physical notes has been happening since the Jackie days. I'm guessing Howard prefers it over the chat service (which the guys in the office use to pass info to Howard).

When does Stern write the 3rd book?

hbktonyb
06-18-2011, 12:41 AM
With Stern's work ethic at this age, I'd say about a quarter to never. I'd much rather read a 2nd Artie book, I mean what is he going to write about...his rich life in the Hamptons with his model wife, $50 million house, apple products, Dancing with the Stars, Medicated Pete and the fact that Sirius owes him more than $100 million per year!?? :lol

I'm going to go out on a wacky crazy limb and say that Tom Hanks does the Stern show next week. I mean, he's been everywhere promoting this new movie Larry Crowne (including Telemundo--see TMZ---might be Univision) and then he was once interviewed by Stuttering John and seemed to be a fan and now he's in NY this upcoming week for talk shows (Letterman, Stewart, etc.). I don't know.....wouldn't shock me if on Tuesday he shows up.

Someone ask him on twitter (does Stern still do twitter?).

junior94

I wouldn't be surprised if Vinny Favali was incorrectly reporting on the size of his kidney stone. He said 1 inch across, I highly doubt that. I've had stones many times, I don't believe I've EVER heard of one anywhere close to that big. Even a 1cm stone is considered on the large size and likely wouldn't pass without some kind of intervention. I'm guessing he meant it was 1cm.

I would be pretty shocked if Hanks went on Stern. Lazy Booey would rather book Joan Rivers.

jackisback24

Why don't we create a contest to see what the next A-lister appears on Stern. It can be borderline B plus lister but a household name. Ricky Gervais would be a B lister, for instance. Hanks, Leo, Affleck would be A-lister. We can pretty much figure it out.

I'm going with Hanks.

Basically he told the whole story when they went to Afghanastan (sp?). How Artie was crazy to deal with, and how he started a big fight with Gary and how Gary never looked at Artie the same way again. He said he felt like it was like a friend who gets drunk and tells you how they really think. But then he said that Artie apologized. Thought it was interesting that he went into detail about an Artie drug story like that.

Yea all in all I think it's pretty lame how Howard has handled this. And, I never thought I'd say it, but overall I think the show has suffered since. With no Artie it seems it too often devolves into just Howard and Robin conversing, I just reeeeeally can not stand her :lol

I don't see why Howard can't even just have him back for one isolated appearance to talk, it seems like Howard's totally against the idea of Artie coming back to be a show member, but that Artie's never indicated he at all wants that.

Yea I'm not even collecting all that many HTV episodes anymore. I look over the descriptions and I find I'm getting them not nearly as frequently as I used to. And the segments that introduce the new monthly HTV girl, well I've still been getting each one I suppose more for the "complete set" aspect of it, but I literally haven't even really watched one that I've gotten in several months (besides watching like just a minute to get an idea of what the girl looks like, so many times anymore part of it is usually Ronnie being uber-creepy in having the girls try on different bikinis). This is the least interested I've been in the show as a whole since the move to Sirius, I think.

and btw I wouldn't be surprised if Artie lost a ton of weight while going thru all that he did, if he was back to at least how he looked in Beer League.

quick question: I have a portable Sirius in my old truck. My truck died. When and if I switch cars and move the portable Sirius to my next car (which will be a used old car) do I call Sirius and have to tell them info about my next car for it to work or do I just rig the wires and I'll be good to go? I forgot but thought I might have to give some type of VIN or numbers off the car for them to register it.

I'm an Artie mark as well and was just thinking about him earlier today, but there are a lot of legalities and shit that Howard went through and he's not in a good place. Honestly, I don't know if I'd bring him back simply because of all the drugs and suicide bullshit. I think he scared Stern. Wow, very telling. Someone just cursed, so they cut him. Artie says "Unfortunately, this isn't Sirius."

Next caller says he wishes he would go back to the show.

Artie - "Look, that would be the greatest thing to ever happen to me. I was on the greatest show in the world and I put them all in a very awkward situation. I love them all, and we'll see"....

Wow, I'm sad :(

But he has so much to say----shit I have to get a car now so I can hear the show, esp if Artie comes on. Maybe put Artie on a 3 month probation thing. Because I remember one day a couple weeks ago he asked Gary if he knows which weeks are 4 days and which are 3. But the vacation weeks are legit. He always takes 2 weeks in July, 2 in August, 1 in October, 1 for Thanksgiving, and 2 for Xmas.

Feels like a new person, feels fantastic.

Got to a point where it is either change his life or move to Alaska.

Really wants to get back into radio, he loves it so much.

Feels like transitioning to a sports related comedy show will be pretty smooth. Loves old school sports.

Artie's biggest bet, when he was gambling - $25K on Tyson for the Tyson/Holyfield fight.

hbktonyb
07-15-2011, 11:47 AM
No deal yet for Sports Talk radio show. He is talking to people about both a radio and tv deal, but it would start up as just radio.

Misses the Howard Stern show MORE THAN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD...wow. Misses having so much fun on the air.

"I blew it because of my lifestyle". Biggest regret was not taking the steps to make me better 10 years ago.

Artie would love to go back in a second. He would "vacuum" the studio, lol. They have apprehensions about having him back.

When Howard feels the time is right maybe he'll go back, but he understands why they don't want him back.

Howard called him a bunch of times while he was going through his ordeal. They have both reached out to each other.

Artie decided he wanted to stick around for a while so that's why he cleaned up.

Pretty much confirmed that it is Howard keeping him off the show. Ugh.

hbktonyb
07-15-2011, 11:59 AM
He also mentioned that the only thing that felt like work to him was waking up early. While at work he had a blast.

Dan Patrick loves hearing Artie's laugh. Dan said he's gone through an awful lot and there are quite a few stories, thinks him and Nick would be great together.

Show is ending. Now for my thoughts. It was great to hear from Artie that Howard called him a bunch of times. At least it shows that Howard isn't a complete robot. Seems like if it was up to Artie he would go back to the show immediately. Def. Howard keeping him out. On one hand I understand because Artie was so fucked up, what if it happens again? What if being back in the studio waking up early sends Artie back into his old habits?

On the other hand, the show really needs Artie. Who knows, maybe Artie needs to get back on the radio for a year or so to prove to Howard that he is completely clean and ready to go back to the show. It's a shame because Artie and Howard were literally a perfect radio pair.

hbktonyb
07-15-2011, 12:00 PM
Also think it is obvious that Artie is holding the whole story for something, whether it is his own show, the book, or Howard. Hasn't talked about much from the last year and a half that he was silent. Just so good to hear him again, sounding better than ever.

It's going to be very interesting to hear how Howard responds to this on Monday. There's no way he can ignore it. I understand especially from a neurotic like Stern why he wouldn't want Artie back. I remember reading Artie's mom and sister blamed the show for Artie's condition and attempted suicide saying he felt pressured to keep up that lifestyle for the show. I hope he at least comes back for an interview, but my god would the show increase ten fold if Artie got his chair back. Part of me thinks this sports show rumor is to put the pressure on Howard a little bit, but I don't think he'll bend.

hbktonyb
07-16-2011, 12:10 AM
Yup, well Artie put it all on Howard, saying things like "I miss it more than anything in the world", and "Returning to that show would be the greatest thing ever". Here is what I think happens around the 7 a.m. hour.

Caller: Hey, did you hear about Artie returning to radio?
Howard: Yes, I did.
Robin: Yes! I heard about that.
Howard: Look, I'm so happy to hear Artie is better and healthy. I wish him the best and that's it, I don't know what else to say about it.
Robin: Good to hear from Artie again.
Howard: Let's hope he stays clean and happy. Anything else Robin?

Seriously I wonder if he even dresses the things that Artie specifically said about returning...

jackisback24
07-16-2011, 11:29 AM
I agree, Honky that it will take a caller to bring up Artie. I just don't see him doing it randomly. Stern will talk about vacation, JLo and Marc Anthony and Rupert Murdoch before Artie. It might be a good idea that Artie does a year in radio to show he's clean. I think he should have a segment on Norm's sports comedy show on CC to show he's back and clean.

hbktonyb
07-16-2011, 08:41 PM

Great Gaga interview (and I REALLY dislike her) and good performance too. It kills me going back and watching all those vids of her pre-Gaga and then hearing her do this solo stuff with just a piano. She's so fucking pure, why did she have to ruin it? Oh well, either way, awesome interview. If there's one thing Howard can still do it's interview people. Still doesn't touch the Billy Joel segment though.

Howard doesn't know what to do in the Artie situation and it's very clear. He kept trying to say he wished Artie success, only talked about the bad parts of Artie being on the show, cracked jokes about him, then ended it by saying he loved him. That's Howard's way of saying "thanks but no thanks" to Artie basically begging for his job back. And part of me thinks it's an ego thing too. Very unfortunate. That show was at it's all time best with Artie in the chair.

It was hard to tell really, like Howard always says. Some days he was noticeably... slower? He'd try to ignore people a lot and be shady during breaks with phone calls and stuff. One time we were getting food and he fell asleep standing up on the escalator :lol

Edit: The above is when I think he was fucked up. Any other day he was the nicest human being there. Always willing to strike up convo even with the low men like me.

:thumbsup That's why I've been so negative lately. Artie years were my favorite, and now it just lacks comedy.

I loved that tradio call yesterday, that host didn't know how to react.

Did you guys catch Sals summary on the news about his trip to Europe over the break? He was making me laugh, I loved what he said about the french.

Yeah I think they may take a second look at that after this one, man that was just brutal to listen to. All she gave Howard was one word answers, :lol I blame Ronnie!!!

I actually had to turn the show off today. Howard's rant about Sirius, Lisa G covering Ronnie and Scott setting up Lady Gaga. Who the F cares?? There is something missing - Howard is not ripping his staff members like he used to!

so other than Monday, just that one good show for the week? Geesh, why keep the sub? I wouldn't be shocked if Sabian gets Artie a show. Just sayin. BTW, is Jackie still on the air?

I still wouldn't get rid of the sub., it's like a crazy addiction.

Jeff, the guy who was supposed to work for the WWE?

Does the Alien guy still have a show? They need to give Artie a trial show for a year to see if he can stay clean.

According to SFN, Langford's brother tweeted that he quit. No idea what is going on...but Shuli and Lisa were the news people this week. Hmmmmmm........

It seems like he did quit. His brother said he has a new job in NY radio. I can't believe Langford was even there in the first place. If this means more Shuli, I like it.

I would put Shuli in the Artie chair in a second. His prepared material isn't that great, but in the flow of a conversation he has some great one-liners. My top candidate (other than Artie of course) is still Breuer. I think he's god damn hilarious and a perfect fit for that role.

So let me get this straight. After a 2-week vacation, this week is a 3 day workweek, and they can't come up with something better than replaying the Monday show today? I understand the Gaga spot was great, but they will be playing Gaga all day tomorrow on best of the week. Holy lazy.

King of all Blacks on tomorrow with his cousin! Plus a new Black on Black tomorrow night. Yessssssssss, love that guy.

Listened to the whole Artie appearance on that podcast. It was mentioned that Artie is saving the full story for Howard's show, but unfortunately no one knows when that will be. He said he was in like 3 rehabs and 2 psych wards. This last rehab was 3 straight months of living there. But he said what clicked was Greg Giraldo dying because that was just this past September. As good as Artie sounds it worries me that it took Greg dying for him to realize it. Safe to now say that Artie was back on drugs even after his suicide attempt...

so the first hour will call for:

Langford quitting, Winehouse passing, the Norway bombing and possibly an A-list guest.

Is Stern still on Twitter?

Langford quitting will be a two second discussion because a caller asks about it in the segment right before Jon Hein and Shuli give the updates leading into Robin's news.

I would say out of all the possibilities, the ones to possibly do the Stern show this week that are in NY on the talk show circuit are:

Tim Robbins
Neil Patrick Harris
Zack Braff
Steve Carell

I hope Franco does the show if Stern is live next week.

Pulled this from Mark's friggin. The other thing that was said is that "We need need Artie here telling us the details of what went down...". This is the part that I don't understand. You can't have the guy back as a guest when he is already on radio talking about his bullshit??

Howard took a call from a guy who brought up Steve leaving and Howard said that he understands why Steve left and he's fine with it. He said he's not sure why there's such hard feelings when people leave. The caller also brought up Artie and if he's going to have him back on. Howard said he has explained that 100 times. He said he loves Artie and he admires his talents. He said he went through some serious stuff and he watched it all go down. Howard said he's the worst one at handling the guy and knowing what he needs. He said he has been stand offish because he doesn't want to upset the guy in any way. Howard said he tried to kill himself and that's serious business to him. He said that's no joking matter. Howard said he will never say a bad word about Artie and he wishes him well. He said he doesn't know how to handle those kind of things. Howard said he must be working with people who know how to handle all of that.

The caller said that Artie seems like he's doing fine and it doesn't seem like he's ever going to hurt himself again. Howard said he loves Artie and he doesn't want him to be hurt. Robin said it's all about Artie. Howard said he needs some care and he's not sure how to give that to him. He said he loves Artie and Nick and they'll do good radio. Howard said that's it.

Howard said Artie is a great guy and they had 9 great years together. Howard said he's not going to say anything and about the guy. Howard said he's not going to talk about any calls they made to each other or whatever. He said he wants him to be healthy and he doesn't need him talking about how he tried to kill himself or anything like that. Howard said he thinks it's pretty simple. Howard said he's on Artie's team 100 percent and that's it.

Robin said people take things very lightly from the outside. She said they just want you to start doing it again.

Howard took another call from a guy who asked why he blames himself for the demise of Artie. Howard said he doesn't. He said he's a very delicate matter and he's just being very careful with the way he handles it. Howard said he doesn't blame himself one bit. He said he just knows it's a lot to deal with.
